In this video, which I'll be upfront, I didn't record the end for the ND filter section. I worked with Juliana to create some really beautiful photos.
We shot with Natural light, then I turned on the strobe and tried to mix the strobe with the ambient, then I increased my shutter more to get a little more shadow and shading. Finally, in what you won't see, other than the photos, I used an ND filter and no HSS for some great shots at the end.
This isn't really a comparison video, its more see the difference! I think using all these styles of lighting can truly make your work stand out! Oh yeah, we shot these at midday! So the sun was out, it was harsh, and it was baking!

11:00 You "used an ND filter for a more dramatic effect". Naive question : rightly or wrongly, I thought that we would get exactly the same effect without the ND filter, if the flash power was higher. Can you confirm this? However, I imagine that using the ND filter allows you to reduce ambient light overall, while maintaining a wide aperture for a shallow depth of field. Anyway, thanks for your video : ) Ps: I really like the pics at the end of the video (10:45 and after).

Great question. I was honestly hoping to get a little more of a dramatic effect. I feel using the ND gives a little more drama than high shutter and HSS. Just my opinion.

Always love your style Jason - great images once again. I have a question about potentially distracting objects in shots and wondered if you had considered the white signs on the red fence (like the shot at 2:49)? I was intrigued by your thought process around that and whether you do or don't remove things.

Good question. Never once did I even see or think of it. So it didn’t distract me. Sometimes if they do distract, I’ll consider moving them. But if they don’t weigh on me, they stay. No need to do work not necessary

@@J.Allen_Photography cool. That's the approach I take, if I see if and it's drawing my eye away from my subject then it's gone (and I make a mental note to take more notice when I've shooting there again). But we all see things differently - the beauty of art.

Yes. It’s the Dewalt Battery operated fan. I HATED spending $150 for it. But it’s so worth it, plus you can get a little of that wind blown look.

Jason Amazing job. Jason what is that battery you have your flash connected to?. Can I use one of those for Studio Flash SK300 from Godox?. Thank you!! Love your work.

That is the ad600 extension head. It plugs into the bulb slots on the ad600 and I can just connect the bulb to the extension. I use it on real windy days.

Jason i want and need to see the flash power man come one, i dont give a F if its always diffrent depending the situtation i have bought godox ad 300 and its shit to see and know the increments, instead of using a scale from 1 to 10 those idiots use whatever it is i cant even explain it those are just numbers?? again it would be nice if you showed your flashpowers.
@J.Allen_Photography
@J.Allen_Photography Ай бұрын
The 300 is half the power of the 600. Power settings definitely won’t do you any good for me to provide them. Two completely different lights and usage time of day differs as well…imo
@jasonbodden8816
@jasonbodden8816 Ай бұрын
Doesn’t it have normal settings like 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, etc. like any other Godox strobe? You can see it on your trigger. Why would you need it represented as a range of 1 through 10? Everyone can read regular flash power settings. And by the way, a**wipe, be more respectful to Jason. You’re the one asking for flash settings when IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE TO GIVE THEM TO YOU AS IT WON’T HELP YOU WITH YOUR SHOOTS. So stop asking photographers to give you their flash power settings because it varies from situation to situation. Pretty sure Jason isn’t the first photographer you’ve demanded this from and probably got the same answer from, too. Don’t be a d*ck.
