Few subjects provoke debate like the doctrine of election. As a result, many struggle to see the value of it for Christian living. Yet from a biblical perspective, the doctrine of election is intended to comfort God's people as well as magnify God's grace. In this session, Dr. Ian Hamilton shows why God's eternal plan to redeem His people for His glory is the basis for the work of Christ as our mediator, the foundation for the historical unfolding of the covenant of grace, and the ground for our hope in the gospel.

My wife and I just spent the weekend with Dr. Hamilton, listening to a series of sermons on the five solas. It was one of the great blessings that I can ever remember. Power, conviction, and soundness wrapped in humility. Before the first sermon, I loved Christ. After the 5th sermon, I loved Christ even more.

Thank you God so much for this sermon. So anointed, sincere and beautifully conveyed. I pray it penetrates through every part of my soul and spirit, breaking up, demolishing all lies that my soul has embraced about you.

This issue is even easier for me because I believe as Luther did about the New Testament. So those apparently contradictory verses in James carry less weight than Romans and are even easier to resolve.

This brother speaks the love of God in his words !but I have never listened to any preacher from a reformed Christianity or any other church preacher this unites Leviticus 16 and the death of Jesus Christ shed blood on the Cross? In Leviticus 16; says the shed blood of incessant lamb that took the sins up it from the repentant sinner was ministered in the Holy Place by the High Priest! My question is this how did our Lord Jesus Christ minister His own shed blood in the New Jerusalem Temple ? As Paul says in the Book of Hebrews, the earthy Temple or Sanctuary was a pattern of heavenly things ! The shed blood of Our Saviour Jesus Christ shed his blood on the ground outside of the walls of old Jerusalem! But when did this shed blood of our Lord Jesus be not ministered in the temple in heaven ? The Atonement of Jesus by His shed blood on the cross was not just the death of the sacrifice, but the life is in the blood ! This Life is eternal life ! Jesus on the earth was the Lamb and a Prophet ! In heaven Jesus is our Great High Priest in the New Jerusalem Temple ! When He returns He is King of kings and Lord of Lords !

How can the grace of God be termed a non-entity? It is God's grace that enables one to know Christ salvifically : " [ God ] hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began " ( 2 Tim. 1:9 ). One believes through grace: " And when he was disposed to pass into A-chai'-a, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace... " ( Acts 18:27 ).

I wonder why we do not have a Denomination named after Paul of Tarsus! We have on after Luther, and one following Calvin . Paul accomplished so much more than these two men and others followers of Jesus. They were not martyrs as most of Jesus Apostles and , not wanting to make them not great teachers ,they were , but not so exulted to speak so much of their beliefs instead of teaching more the Words of Jesus and His love.

There is a denomination named after Calvin? Are you perhaps thinking of the belief system Calvinism? Or perhaps the denominations with Calvary in their name? Lutheran makes some sense, because it needed to be distinct from the main "church" of the day: Roman Catholic, though he did not want a denomination named after him.

Ian, if Calvin's doctrine of predestination is completely true and correct, what is the point of the Day of Judgment to come? Furthermore, what was the point of Christ's life, death, and resurrection, if God had already predestined his Elect from the foundation of the world, before the Elect were even born? Do you honestly believe that God predestined the vast majority of human beings to eternal banishment from him in the Lake of Fire, without affording them any free will to repent, through Christ, thereby enabling them to enter into his loving arms?

Totally agreed. The key word in John 3:16 is "WHOSOEVER". In fact, God so loved "THE WORLD", not a select chosen elect. In 1 Timothy 2:4 the key words are "ALL MEN". And in 2 Peter 3:9 the key word is "ANY". Also consider Deuteronomy 30:19 and Joshua 24:15 concerning free will to choose Christ or not to. To choose life or to choose death. And yes, the Great White Throne judgment is made unnecessary for those "elected for damnation" no matter what they did. Judged for what? Judged for being created as a damned soul? What I had nothing to do with was the Word. I was dead in trespasses and sin (Ephesians 2:1). BUT, WHEN I HEARD THE WORD I BELIEVED AND I WAS SEALED WITH THE SPIRIT OF PROMISE (Ephesians 1:13). We are saved by grace through FAITH (in Christ)... (Ephesians 2:8-10). And where does FAITH (in Christ) come from? FAITH comes from HEARING and HEARING from THE WORD OF GOD (Romans 10:17). And, what is the WORD OF GOD? It is JESUS CHRIST (John 1:1, John 1:14). I could say much more from scripture but, let this suffice.

God's doctrine of predestination is true. People choose to go to hell. Without that self choice, there would be no hell.
@toni25681

Elizabeth, with respect, you are missing the point. You are saying that people choose to go to Hell. The whole point of Calvin's Predestination is that nobody has any choice at all, because everything has already been predestined. With respect, you are totally contradicting your own point.
