Any book in particular to start with?

@@rogermathews3035 I would suggest Famine in the Land; it is an older book, but it speaks on the issue for the need of expository preaching because there is a famine in many modern Christian churches from good preaching. When we understand the Word is God-breathed and sufficient (2 Timothy 3:16-17), we will tend to preach and teach in a more expository way to let God say what He intended to say and not add or take away from it.

The New Testament is our only true connection with the first generation church. As long as a man is expounding the scriptures, he has a living connection with the first generation church. We are 2000 years removed from the first generation, but the scriptures and seeking to arrive at the original meaning of what they meant when they were first written. That is the goal of expository preaching.

In fact, the first christian generation were fighting for Jewish reformation not Roman catholic reformation... the two will never bring the same outcome, both theologically and otherwise.

@@brianroads3694 I agree. While church history is very important, our ultimate foundation is the Word of God. Rightly preached and taught, we can understand the application for our lives today, as well as draw closer to God since the direct revelation of God comes from the scriptures. Even the risen Jesus went to the Old Testament scriptures to tell of Himself to the disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:27). There is so much bad "preaching" out here today because so many want to make the Word say what they want it to say instead of what God says what He wants to say.

I am quite sure he respects and upholds the preaching of the Apostles and of Jesus Himself and all the Old Testament Prophets and preachers!! It is the Bible he loves and is passionate about - he wants to pass on their teaching faithfully and explain it and apply it - - he is just talking about good expository preachers he has had contact with and how their style has impacted him..... After this interview he speaks to he conference and it is all about how Paul taught Timothy to preach - and that is also the example Lawson follows. Lets face it - some preachers are on fire and great and preach the full council of God - others are very dull and do not say very much and everyone is going to sleep - or they are making jokes and entertaining the congregation.......
