My family was refugees back in 1979 and from refugees camp, we were sponsored by Canadian government back then to come living in Canada after we went through the interview with Canadian officers in refugees camp. As my family arrived in Canada, within a few weeks my dad had to start working 2 jobs in order to save money and paid back the money that we owed to Canadian government for the flight to get us to Canada. If I remembered correctly, we had to pay it off within a year or 2 yrs after we arrived in Canada. It was not easy to immigrate to Canada back then.
