It's finally here! I have been meaning to upload this video to show everyone an update on the hydrangea hedge I added last year. There are 6 limelights in this video, 3 of which were in 1 gallon containers when I planted, and the other 3 were in about 2.5 gallon containers. This video shows you what the hedge looks like, more or less, exactly one year after I planted them all in the ground! You will also see an update to the pinky winky hydrangeas I planted in containers earlier in spring 2020. These pinky winky's were in 1 gallon containers when I received them. I hope you enjoy this update! Thank you for watching and be sure to subscribe :)

I think that the hydrangea that didn’t bloom it’s because it doesn’t get as much sun as the others

That could be another factor (I was thinking the same thing) though that particular hydrangea gets a couple of hours of morning sun and about 3-4 hours of afternoon sun. I mentioned another hydrangea that I planted near another tree, and that one gets much less sun and still bloomed. So, it's weird haha

I think the hydrangeas that didn't bloom are in too much shade! Lime lights like a little bit more sun.

Bola Whaley this spot gets a couple of hours of morning sun and several hours of afternoon sun around 3pm onward. It could be a combo of factors, not just the water issue. I’m gonna leave it here for a few more seasons and see if it catches up.

Just loved seeing your beautiful hydrangeas. The deer ate my hydrangeas this winter, and I put on bird nets to protect the rest. This is the only thing that seems to work. Happy Gardening 2021!

Thanks for sending the message saying you just posted. I do think sunlight, moisture and the tree is robbing that middle plant of its nutrients. I have a row of 4 Strawberry Vanilla Hydrangeas. The one I planted next to the tree didn't get any blooms the first year but the next year it did. I guess it had to catch up to the other ones since fighting for moisture and nutrients. I was thinking about using one or two of those shrub fertilizer spikes for mine next spring and see how it does. You can always water that one a little more but if its not sunny enough in between those two trees the blooms might be really small. Yours look great though. Thanks for the update!

Limelights need full sun. Also add plants like allium,lavender,catmint and salvia to help with deer.

If you add pine straw mulch around them and fertilize before any foliage they will do alot better. also prune the before they leaf out. the rule is 1/3 of the growth. you should water them often during the summer months. the one between the two trees will do alot better with water, fertilizer and mulch. I have several under a large oak tree and they are doing well. it takes at least a year for them to adapt.

Where you have the pinky winky i think some tall evergreen shrubs would look amazing... like the look of a Leyland Cypress but not so huge obviously.
@gardensinbloom6504

That would look nice and I could definitely do that given the pinky winky’s aren’t permanent in that spot. Thank you!

Looks like the deer repellent did not work. But this was very nice to see how they did after you planted them.

They are in way too much shade. Hydrangeas need a lot more sun. When I buy these I always buy the biggest ones I can get. Are you fertilizing??????? They are pretty cloridic. Also planted in grass, the grass is competing for the water. They are planted so close to the bushes, the bushes will be overtaken. Fertilizing the lawn and plants in a regular plan is absolutely vidal.

Yes, I am fertilizing and I agree, the one under the trees isn’t getting enough sun.
