He is a Ford Mechanic and I'm the exact opposite. He can pop the hood / lift the car and knows just about everything quickly whole guys like me rely on our gut feelings and often benefit from having someone like Rich look at at cars before we cough out the cash for the purchase.

Got our '02 six years ago, now nos 168k, runs perfect, no 'check eng'' light, no leaks, 22 highway mpg, rides great, no noise, we paid $3500 for it. BEST car we've every owned, I may never need to buy another. Town Car... the best kept secret of AL:L.

Pro tip for those new to keeping older cars: dress all of the door seals and sun roof seals with Vinylex or ArmorAll at least quarterly to keep the seals in great shape. Excellent video, thanks! Panthers forever!

Baby oil yes, armorall no. Collects dust and dirt. Use mineral oil, baby, Vaseline or 303. 303 is the best. I use on tires, inside and out, AIR BAGS. So many either don't do anything to protect bags when old or when spending time and money getting new ones. Yes you can get springs. But bags are so much better. No spring steel will ride like a rubber cushion of air. Reason they go bad is what I said, ppl don't protect them. I use 303 and they still like new years and years later. They take alot of abuse. Especially in rusty areas. Protect them. If anything rub oils listed or Vaseline. It's less than 2 bucks. And just rub it all over. I spray mine with 303 2 times. Them before winter a nice coat of Vaseline. No cracks no issues. Use it on everything. Interior, exterior, under hood, body, trunk. I put baby, mineral, or melted in a steel bowl Vaseline in doors, hood and trunk and pull out body plugs and even make a few and let it flow. It's a great base of protection. Then use fluid film etc. Eastwood makes a inside frame paint that's worth every cent. It leaves a great barrier in frame, on frame and body. I used it all over after seam sealer, and then bed liner over that. I fight rust every year, and I'm winning so far. You can make your own with a quart of oil, toilet wax seal, and a tube of grease all mixed and melted. Just has a odor for a week or so but it'll stick to greased snot all winter. Love my Town Cars if you can't tell yet.

@@kitjasabsgabs1830 legit question, not trolling. From understanding.... doesn't petroleum based lubricants degrade rubber? I have 2006 town car, impeccable shape, and I'm considering the ideas in these comments. Just honestly inquiring
@kitjasabsgabs1830
@kitjasabsgabs1830 2 жыл бұрын
@@Thenextkingmj2 We've used baby, mineral and Vaseline on Airbags for trailers and trucks for decades. I use a product by 303. They make excellent protective sprays that won't attract dirt and dust and last alot longer than armor all. If you use something like gas then yes it will eat rubber up. But the other stuff will not. I use 303 and mineral oil on inside and out of tires when I buy them. They last 4 or more years on average and look great. Same process, 303 and some kind of oil type. My father has used this on all the tires he buys which is alot. 18 for rig and 8 for each trailer, plus a triaxle loader with 12, 2 is for tag, plus 8 for log loader, and 4 on log skidder. Nost have air bags too. He gets alot more mileage out of them. When we buy anything rubber it's not protected at all. It needs something to keep it moisturized and suppple like our skin. If we spend good money on products and parts we should protect them as we do our paint and other surfaces. I spray 303 on about everything I can. If it was safe for my skin I'd use it. I've never had any complaints when I've used it. Only thing I get is what did you use on my tires and wipers cause they're still in great shape after winter and the heat of summer. So many still use armor all. It's ok. 303 is way better. If used as a base on anything it's a hell of a tough combo to beat! I've not saw or had any issues with any of this on any surface. Besides if you're going to prime and paint you really gotta prep cause 303 really gets into the surface. It will fisheye if not cleaned very well. Ask me how I know?? Lmao. I'd never give car advice that I'm not 100% sure of. I love my car as I'm sure we all do. I'd never tell anyone to use a product on it if I didn't believe in it and use myself. I've been doing this for 3 decades now and alot just don't work or does and don't last long. 303 and some type of oil works and keeps working months and months. I'm very thrifty and love to make stuff last as long as I can. I buy good parts and I do my best to make them last as long as humanly possible. I've had customers not replace tires and wipers and airbags for years. Driving in the rust belt. Baby oil has a nice aroma, mineral is cheap also with no smell and a tub of Vaseline can be used as is or heated a lil bit and used as a spray or whatever you need. I've used in door, trunk,hood, quarters and no rust. It's good cheap easy protection. Stuff costs so much why not spend a few minutes and couple bucks to make it last even longer??

The previous owner stayed on top of the maintenance I love that car, not as economical as my 03 Buick LeSabre but probably still less expensive to own as seems the LeSabre constantly had small issues. There is no problem with sun roof gasket. There are 2 rubber pipes going from the roof draining water to the back fenders. Every year it is good to blow air bacwards and doing so the leak is fix. Veary easy job. Even by blowing air by mouth can help. If you see few of those videos on You Tube about Town Car you don't need to bring mechanic. About sagging door every year you should put lube on hinges. I have 2007 and it is the best car I ever own.

I just bought an 04 town car with 106,000 miles on it. It is a south carolina car, I went there to get it from East Tennessee, a 3 hr drive. It was worth the drive. The underside of the car looks like it's 6 months old. No rust , no accidents. The interior and exterior is in mint condition, not even a door ding. The driver seat could use a little bit of stuffing. The rest of the seats look like they've never been sat in. It has a few dings and scrapes on the bumper covers that I plan on fixing up. I'd been looking at Town cars for a few months and this one came up, I got it for $4500. I also have an 07 town car that I bought for $500 but I think somebody put it into a ditch before I bought it. The moon roof leaked on it. Mechanically it's perfect but the body is rough on it. But the 07, put me into a mood of wanting a mint town car. My folks always owned town cars, and I always loved to drive them. I made sure to not get a moonroof car this time, because for the life of me I couldn't find the leak on the 07 car. I ended up sealing it up with silicone. I love those cars. Also they are relatively inexpensive and simple to repair which is a plus when having an older car that you can repair yourself.

The absolute most important thing is to torque the spark plugs to 28 foot lbs. instead of 10 foot lbs. like the factory did. If you don't the spark plugs can vibrate loose and eventually blow out of the hole, taking the threads with them. Also, when opening the doors from the inside, it is important to take your thumb and push in on the bottom rear corner of the door handle bezel. If you don't do that, after 100,000 miles the bezel will break out on the back side of the door panel and will fall out the front. Dorman reproduces these, but not the ones that have the hole for the front seat heaters, When closing the doors, reach around with your hand and close them by grabbing the front outside sheet metal in front of the window, otherwise the door pull handles will wear out and look disgusting. Also, if you park the car where leaves can fall on it, the leaves will fill up the air box by the right hood hinge and plug up the water drain on that box, resulting in rain water flooding the right passenger floor board. You can remove the lid on the box and clean the leaves out and unclog the drain to fix this. I've seen the engine and transmissions on these cars last as long as 700,000 miles if you use Mobil 1 motor oil. On the center console front armrest, buy a small pillow to set on top of it, don't rest your arm on the console lid as it will look like crap after about 50,000 miles of doing that. These are the most reliable cars ever made with two exceptions.......the CD changer on the radio and the rear air suspension. On the air suspension I recommend replacing it with coil springs and getting rid of the air springs in the rear, otherwise you will spend a lot of money keeping it working. On the radio I gave up on using the CD player because they won't work more than 12 months after having the radio repaired. I added a Siriius XM satellite radio setup on my Town Car (no CD's). The radios have a SAT button but you have to have the Satellite radio module and antenna that plugs into the back of the radio to use this feature and all the parts have been discontinued and nobody has them anymore. I love my 2009 Town Car and would never replace it except with another Town Car... They are the best car ever made period end of discussion.

There is other stuff to look for, the spark plugs if over or under tighten will blow out of the block, the intake will crack by heater pipe and on the driver side, need to look around spark plugs for coolant. this was a known problem from 03-11, ford did fix it on the mustang with a metal intake. The timing chain guides are plastic and will wear need to listen for the rattle sound on cold startup. The 03 had bad rear axel bearing and will leak if not replaced. @VitaliyKofman
@VitaliyKofman 3 жыл бұрын
For those letters, there is "trim adhesive" I bought from Walmart. Seat stuffing took some efforts. I do have a poorly made video on that (my earlier efforts). Basically, the seat has to come out and leather lifted. I took some dense foam and stuffed it between the metal rails of the seat and the factory cushion. Was very careful to put everything back since was afraid to ruin the heating pad and rip the leather. It all worked out. @mrkkg27 2 жыл бұрын
Except for the moonroof I have the same car as you including the color. Why is the rear paint lighter? I understand you had rust and it was repaired and I assume painted as well. Is that the best they could do on color matching? Either the painter was a novice, or lazy because that should have been much closer in color. Any body shop that has a paint booth and mixes their own paint can compensate for climate exposure on the factory formula. A body shop that does not mix their own paint go's to a paint store and buys the stock paint by the code. The older the car and the more sun exposure the paint on the car will be faded and no longer match the factory paint.

I got G4 Cashmere tricoat colored paint from online place. Mine is 07. Damn rust in fender arches under the fancy shiny junk pieces. It is more tan than gray now after doing so. But instructions said to use a paint card and see how many coats it takes to get right color. Me in October barely 64 at 2 pm hurried. I wish I could've just got a base and clear with the pearl together and not 3 cans. By time I do base, wait, effect wait, clear I was losing temp and light. I believe the color is right, just my error. I wrench on autos and body work. Paint is a art to get coats, time to flash, sand between coats or not, spray clear, get right cut, buff and polish the side so all paint is closer in shade. But Mines easy to see cause I didn't polish or do that. But still tan and gray on mine is not same. But the scratc wizard lil jar and kit I got is damn near spot on. It's not 3 jars of paint. So idk if I could've just got base and 2k clear and be good or not. Gonna have to figure this one out before respray.

Sorry to butt in like this but if I may ask, I bought a 2011 TC with 143k miles for $7500. The leather in the front is worn and the exterior is pretty nice without many scratches. The door handles on the inside have cracks around them too. Do you think I overpaid? I just regret buying it because I didn't realize that rear-wheel-drive cars are not as easy to drive in the winter. I'm planning on investing in really good winter tires to stay safe as the car has fishtailed on me once while making a turn. There wasn't even any rain that day. Thank god I didn't hit any other car.

@@VitaliyKofman Thank you so much for the reply. I am practicing safe freeway ramp entering and exiting as they curve quite heavily at times. That way, by winter time, I should hopefully be fully ready to drive it along with the winter tires. And I bought a quick install set of tire, not chains but a Hard plastic diamond like thing that's quick and easy to install and not a pia like traditional chains. I'll have to see what they're named. Not used them in 2 years. And I have 2 of these a 99 Cartier with 253k and a 07 with 114k now. Got good winter treads ready to go. Spray with 303 and they will last a lifetime and never dry rot. Inside and out. Its amazing stuff. Sweet Peoject Cars. He shows you step by step how to fix seats cheap, quick and easy. Where I saw about 303 spray. You got a heck of a deal. These cars are the best made in last 30 years. One guy had a 2010 with 650000 miles same motor and trans. Don't FLUSH TRANS. Just fluid and filter. Motorcraft. Hope you enjoy it. @kitjasabsgabs1830
@kitjasabsgabs1830 Жыл бұрын
@@alecwall6703 yes. Every 50k. Never flush it. Ford had a recall in 2003 I think not sure about flushing. I think it was with the newer trans when they did last version. That's all it needs. I start mine with the coolant return and let it out while I fill with pre made gallon jugs of fluid. When it goes from eww to neew I stop. Or start and when it's about all out stop. Take pan off, replace filter, pan on then pour new in and start. I believe the torque converter has a drain. Think. I recall draining a few but usually ppl don't want that. Just filter and new fluid. It helps to have a helper so when fluid starts to turn color or stops flowing to stop engine. I do it by myself but I use a clear hose so I can see when it's getting close. U can tell. It's hard to describe. 1 buddy in USMC dad owned a taxi business in NY city. He'd buy these cars at 200k cheap and run till death. He had a few go over 800k but he serviced them routinely and his friend owned a shop who was a Ford tech in 2000s. As long as they are serviced at the intervals there's no reason why we can't get many many miles. These have kinda small oil passages. So when u skip that 3500 change if it starts to plug up its on borrowed time unless you run some BG through it. I always will use some MMO in oil before a change. 1 has 117k other 99 has 253 k. Same engine trans etc. I also mix 1 quart of any new or used oil, 1 quart of any new used trans fluid, not from a trans woman after bottom hacking, 1 tube of grease gun grease and 1 toilet wax ring gasket. I saw this from another poster and tried it. Works great. Better than fluid film and blaster and New Hampshire stuff. But we don't get snow like we used too so maybe overkill. Cost me 5 bucks. Gasket and tube of HF grease. Heat it up and it's ready for brush, I made a home made gun from a air gun that has a suction nipple. Messy but what isn't.

Also if u buy other than cheap parts store parts, they do have grease fittings. If not pierce the boot with a syringe about a 14 gauge, and lube it yourself. And another, I've seen ppl spend so much all things and put airbags, rubber bushings, etc in car and not protect them. Parts are so cheap they rust in a week. I always use Opsho, 303, Vaseline whatever on parts so they will last. My old man is a stickler for taking care of urr stuff. Alot of ppl are not. I maintain mine and find small issues before they get big. They all break new or old. These cars are proven to last 3/4 million miles when properly serviced. If u can't get 250k miles out of a panther, u didn't care. I've owned a few and all lasted. I had a Grand Cherokee that lost blend doors. They fail closed. Take out glove box and cardboard and duct tape it. When need heat, undo. I may be backwards. It's been a decade.
