I had the pleasure of attending this concert in the eighties with my mother. I had been a longtime fan of Linda Ronstadt at that point, but my mother did not listen to her music regularly like I did. Upon hearing the first note of this song my mother said "You are right she does have a wonderful voice!"

I grew up listening to these types of songs. And I don't Linda's whole story of how she grew up with these songs. My father couldn't speak much English, but when he sang to us, it was in clear English. Hearing her voice always brings tears to my eyes, because I immediately go back to my childhood. Remembering when my Father would also sing Ranchera. Linda I am saddened to hear about you not being able to sing anymore. But thank you for all that you have contributed throughout your incredible carrer.

Linda is Mexican…even tho her last name is German. Her father was a Mexican singer. CNN has a good bio on her on TUBI. I cry too when I hear it because it reminds me of my grandma and great grandma….I would love to be a kid again, listening to them speak Spanish, listening to this kind of music.

I had the pleasure of seeing this concert live in, of all places, Pittsburgh, PA! My mother-in-law surprised my wife and me with a couple of tickets when we went up there to visit from San Antonio. The album had just been released and the concert is one of the greatest presentations I've ever seen. Her singing of the many standards was magnificent! I was also surprised at how many fellow Mexican-Americans there were in PA. The Benedum Center was sold out!!

Tony Wheeler I totally agree with you. I remember when her Canciones De Mi Padre album came out, my grandmother Benita had a great ear for Mariachi music and always encouraged me to learn how to sing in Spanish. After seeing Linda Ronstadt in concert in 1992, it really inspired me to finally take a shot at learning how to sing in Spanish. This song has always been a favorite of mine and I usually sing this song at family wedding receptions with a mariachi band. I am so grateful that my grandmother steered me into the Mariachi genre and that she got me to listen to Linda Ronstadt's "Canciones De Mi Padre" album to get me started in the Spanish language genre.
