Dunmeshi is a rare case of a good message being aimed at exactly the people who need to hear it. healthy diet, exercise, and a regular sleeps schedule. in a fantasy manga that is most likely going to be read by Nerds with godawful diets consisting of red bull and ramen noodles. irregular if any sleep schedules and mostly sedentary lifestyles. good job Kui-san.

Having now seen the anime, some of the scenes from this early on (and how they make Linkara tell very particular jokes as a result of seeing those scenes) shows some truly remarkable foreshadowing skills here.

A good diet and exercise routine is important, but I think having people who know details of the monsters and how to cook them is just as viable as the ending of chapter 3 showed. XD

So having watched the anime series, I can tell you that... yeaaaaaaah, the series does get dark. A lot more darker than you'd expect in a show about eating monsters in a dungeon.

Based on the gang's logic, Gollum would not count because they don't eat humanoid monsters or the like. So orcs, which are not counted as monsters but as demihumans, are not only off the menu but also good friends of our heroes because they are the only people who treat orcs as people and not "exterminate on sight" fodder.

Learning about Senshi's backstory later in the manga really changes how I think about these early chapters and the Dwarf's eccentricity.

Linkara alluding to Vore & being a degree of separation from Smosh (since Damien voiced Laios in the Dub) is not what I expected in 2024 lmao.

On the topic of how good the food looks. I've heard numerous times from people that reading Dungeon Meshi has managed to inspire them to get some actual cooking experience as well as adopting a better diet. Having read the whole Manga at this point, I can say that I understand how that happened.

Good to see Linkara get back to this manga. My friend showed me the anime and the stuff I saw was really enjoyable. Personally really love Laios despite his eccentricities about monsters since he's more or less a positive representation of a neurodivergent character. Also, as someone who's been trying to be on a diet lately, I will say Senshi's whole thing about eating more veggies and getting exercise is very good advice.

Incapable of noticing that was not the right moment bcause he was just having fun talking about the things he likes 17:14 me who has read spoilers: oh... you have no idea. except the monster eating part. at least up to what the anime was shown, it was even a joke that a shapeshifter pretending to be her was shown to be more willing to eat monsters (as a case of "I am ready to do anything to rescue my friend") than the real Marcille.

The funny thing is, that mention of the Living Armor does come back a little bit later in the manga. Not going to directly spoil it, but it's actually a pretty clever way of going about it, and one of the reasons why I actually became a fan of this manga/anime; it is genuinely something I wouldn't have thought up, but it really fits into the logic of the world, thus making it believable.

One moment I love about this manga and the anime is that moment where Laios is talking about the parasitic plant ensnaring its victims, and Marcille just sorta stares at him, and then the next panel is the exact same shot of her staring, just slightly digitally blown up a bit. And then in the anime they got the same effect by having the next shot just be digitally zoomed in! I dunno why but it just cracks me up every time.e

Honestly, ProZD / SungWon Cho's involvement in the anime was my main motivator to watch the anime. And it's been good so far! It does get more serious over time, as well. Not super dark or anything, but there are developments beyond wacky monster-eating shenanigans.

Most of the monsters encountered in Lord of the Rings are demihumans, so that plan wouldn't work. At least by Marcille and Chillchuck's reasonings. Giant spiders, lake monsters, and Fell Beasts yes, orcs, goblins, and Gollum no. Though I do have concerns that the Tolkien monsters might have more toxic remains. Especially the ones I listed as yes. Balrog..... I don't know. Laios would certainly want to try. Trolls are also a bit of a grey area, but leaning towards no. Also, hats off to Viga again, the title card is on point.

Come the end of the anime's run, I hope you get recommended the 2-page bonus comics at the end of each volume. Despite not being adapted into the anime, they are actually canon to it, just little conversations and gags that would have disrupted the flow of the story if included. They'd make a good Comic Book Quickies.

I actually first found out about Delicous in dungeon (dungeon meshi) from Linkara's review but I barely remembered the manga review when I watched the anime. This brings me back to the early episodes. Nice to see the anime is doing a great job adapting the manga almost scene for scene. Some of Linkara's predictions are pretty spot on. Some are not. It's really interesting hearling Lewis's voices for the characters vs what I've heard in the anime Japanese voices. He's got Laios and Marcelle down. Funny he chooses the heroic dwarf for Senshi considering his voice sounds somewhat different or at least more pragmatic in the anime. I hope he returns to it at some point or at least checks out the anime. It's fantastic and the world building is excellent.

I'd been seeing and enjoying random manga pages from Delicious in Dungeon on Tumblr, but it was the anime coming out that turned it into one of my current obsessions. Studio Trigger rarely misses. Pro tip to prospective viewers: even if you're usually a subs person, try the dub. It's fantastic.

Laios is often headcannoned as autistic - because he has an hyper-fixation with monsters and doesn't understand social cues and situations often. It can be interpreted as being selfish and creepy but he's actually very friendly and cares deeply about people, even if he's unable to express it. (Autistic too and accepts that headcanon, espically after the later stories in the series) P.S. The snake is actually the head and the chicken is the tail.

Lord of the Rings would have been way different if Sam cooked Shelob. No problem about second breakfast.
