I've been using Freecad for several years and never seen any of this type of feature content explained this thoroughly. Great job!

These are easily the best FreeCAD tutorials I have seen on YT, really information dense and teaching some great concepts with no filler and nonsense. 👍

Amazingly clear and concise presentation of a very complex topic. As a previous commenter said, this was a million times easy to understand than spending hours with the FC manual. Thanks for sharing such advanced tutorials with the community!

Your tutorials make me much more hopeful for ditching the paid cad systems I've been using until now. I've always felt like I'm leaving a lot of functionality on the table when leaving e.g. onshape for freecad, but this shows me that freecad can actually do basically everything I need, even if I have to rethink how I do it sometimes.

You are doing important work 🙏 It's one thing to read the FC Wiki, but actually seeing how it's done is much easier to understand. Thanks a lot

Nice. It shows what can you do, including modifying a link directly in the assembly, and you activate it. I am still wondering why can't you use a shapebinder between two links in assembly because it insists to make a body active, and despite activating a link, it doesn't see it as activated. An example: I made a gantry for CNC , with two supports on either side. Supports have holes on top for mounting screws. I assemble the gantry with supports on either side, and want to use supshape binder to transfer those holes to the gantry so I will know later from tech drawing where to make those holes, but it won't let me. I had tu use bodies in one assembly file, not links, so everything had to be saved in one file. Thanks for the turorial. Very helpful. If Assembly 3 strives for becoming a main assembly worobench, wee need more turorials like this and clearer documentation because tuere are still some workflow mechanics to be explained for an assembly to be cohesive and don't break down.

Great video 👍 I wonder if it is possible to do this in steps with a threshold value I would like to switch to bigger skrews parametrically but M6.5446 skrews are hard to come by at the hardware store...

Brilliant video! Extremely well explained Since each part was designed in a seperate file, is there a way to have a common spreadsheet between them? (So you can change a parameter such as the hole size and have it reflect on all the parts)

@14:50 if I didn't want to change my component, could I also use a plane coincidence constraint on the two right faces (positive x direction)?
@GoofyChristoffer
@GoofyChristoffer 2 жыл бұрын
You would likely be able to constrain the two parts in other ways, yes. (Haven't tried, though)

For some reason this only works for me with shape binders, not subshape binders. The shape binder produces a face, and I can reference its geometry in a sketch after linking it to my new part, but the subshape binder only contains the edges (not the face itself as well) and I am unable to reference the external geometry in a sketch. Any ideas why this is? Edit: I figured out how to use the subshape binder. In your assembly, under Parts, "Toggle active body" the part you want to model based on the references. Then select the geometry you want to reference in the assembly. Then create the subshape binder. The subshape binder should be nested in the body of the part you are designing. I made a video detailing this for others who were having trouble like me. Fantastic tutorial by the way, this really makes my biggest issue with FreeCAD (creating parts that reference an assembly) so much easier. It's not quite as intuitive as Solidworks, but at least I can do it now!

Really usefull tutorial! My only issue is that I'm not able to pick the external geometry of that subshape binder. I saw that you have the "enable face external geometry picking" checked in edit contorls of sketch environment but I don't have it in my FreeCAD (v0.19). Any ideas of how to fix the issue?

Dear OR thanks for the video. There was a question. How can you understand that one body is within of another? Sometimes it's not obvious. What is the tool?
@DerTechNick
@DerTechNick 2 жыл бұрын
Nice Video. But somehow I cant import the external geometry from a linked sub shapebinder... either it doesn't even "see" the shape binder or when I move the sketch out of the body to the root where the shapebinder sits it says "Failed to add external geometry: Not able to add external shape element"
@OficineRobotica
@OficineRobotica 2 жыл бұрын
I can't really understand why that happens to you and it's hard to help whitbought your file to see where the problem lies. If you have a shapebinder at the root of your document and a active body that you work with, using "import external geometry" in sketcher should automatically create another subhapebinder inside your active body. Please try to refollow the tut and report back
@DerTechNick
@DerTechNick 2 жыл бұрын
@@OficineRobotica I already got it working by linking the whole object and creating a shapebinder of that. I didn't use the Assembly for my project, I wanted to use it to model a part based on that body in a separate file.
