Due to the dates of my travels, I needed to plan and install my bed frame earlier than I had originally wanted to! This simple structure will allow for an open & easily accessible garage, large storage space, and a full size mattress.
The second half of the video includes information about how to complete the sound deadening process.

I love watching your videos. A tip for anyone using your bed frame design. The cross member 2 x 4s should be rotated 90 degrees on end so they are stiffer and don't sag in the middle. This can reduce the 2 x 10 to a 2 x 8 for the end supports to maintain the same height.

For sure, but that takes another 3/4" height from your garage. I'm thinking she considered that and opted for more space and a bit more flex when the bed's in use

The added stability from that 90 rotation is best option. Even if you lose a little height

As I've said before, YOUR VIDEOS ARE GREAT! Realistic, practical information for beginners. One suggestion for finding where to drill for the rivet nuts. If you goob (professional term) some play dough, about where you think the hole should be, onto the back of board/whatever you need to attach, you can simply push the item into place and the indentation of your rivet nut will show exactly where to drill. Easy to clean off playdough after drilling.

Or use a double ended screw. Screw one end into the rivet nut and push the wood up against it. There will then be a mark in the wood exactly where the drill hole should be.

Yes it is tedious putting in a sub floor, as much as the wall insulation but so worth it in the long run.

I realize this comment is very late ..just started watching your videos...love your attention to detail.. I think you did a better job installing your windows than the professionals that do it for a living ..maybe you should be a consultant and help people w/ more difficult parts of conversion . I would hire you and wait for you to come up our way ...Oregon or we could meet you in Sedona , Arizona .. there is must see beauty in both places ..I am serious ..you seem very conscientious and you do excellent work ...harder and harder to find . :)

Hey Linnea & Akela!!! You could have used rivnuts to secure those 2x10s to the ribs. I see that you shop by price; another idea that says a lot about how practical you are. I'll definitely look into Noico for sound deadening. Another great job and Thank you for sharing. 😎

RE: Bolts, they have this cool tool/product that inserts nuts behind your sheet metal . if you think you maybe doing some more nuts and bolts. Nut Serts I bought mine at Harbor freight. Subbed to your channel last week. My wife and I are starting on a van build. Dave and Suzanne, Cedar City.

This is the first time I've heard of using sound deadening material in a van conversion. It must really make a difference in the livability in the van, though. It's pretty interesting, how that stuff must work since you only have to use it in small portions of whole panels. Weird stuff. Very interesting.

My thought is that bc soundwaves are vibrations, they dampening of say the middle percentage breaks up the overall waves of the sound.

I’m taking notes... I’m probably six months until I begin. Question here is did you put the sound deadening under the flooring? I don’t remember seeing you do that and would you recommend doing that? I am loving your videos!! Thank you

I did not. But with everything that I have done with my floor, I am not sure I needed it. My van is VERY quiet. If there ends up being extra it wouldn't hurt of course! Thank you for the support!! And good luck with the build, that is so exciting!

Love your videos....look into rivnuts if you find yourself in the same situation...a rivet with a thread.

Just an FYI, if you ever have to attach anything like that in the future you can have someone put some "Rivet nuts" into the sheet metal. Then you won't need to access the back side to tighten the bolt. Any local body shop will likely do it for a minimal cost, or your can buy the tool and a rivet nut assortment for $50 - $100.

Just put them in yourself. Buy the rivet nuts and tool on Amazon. There is a way to make your own tool too, very cheaply. There are videos on KZfaq

You’re supposed to roll out those bumps on the sound deadening mats. That’s why people use a roller. The flatter you roll out those bubbles, the better it will work.

It probably would. But I honestly don't think I even needed to include the Noico. Once my insulation went in, it changed everything! So if I were doing another build I'm not sure that I would include it

Linnea, hi, what size bolt is that at minute 2.31, length and width? 3/8? or 5/8? 2 1/2" long or 3" long?

I don't know about van's but I do have a degree in mathematics and I understand sound waves because they obey all the same rules as all other waves, it's a very mathematical topic. So can you explain how covering so little of the inside with that sound deadening material would help? Personally I would guess that having all the wooden stuff like the bed, the floor, a kitchen and anything else made of wood would absorb the sound waves. So I wouldn't think you would need to worry too much about the sound deadening material. Buy a thick rug it'll absorb sound waves.

If you had notched your 2x4 into the top edge of the 2x10. Your top\plywood, would have been flush = distributing the weight over >>>the entire length
