Over the last few months, questions have been pouring in!
In this Q&A style video, Noah and I share about the differences of our nomadic life, what our builds entail, how we make money, why we are living this way, if our family supports us, and tips for others wanting to join this way of life.
Feel free to leave any other questions below!

We are Linnea and Akela. In May, 2020 I purchased our 2016 Ram ProMaster, Togo, to become our full-time home. With this van build, I am using my stubbornness and drive to show individuals that they, too, can convert a campervan BY THEMSELVES and ON A BUDGET, with a lot of learning, rolling up the sleeves, and getting to work.
Our goal here is to inspire individuals to chase their dreams. To break from societal limitations and live the life they truly desire. And, to GET OUTSIDE!
SUBSCRIBE for van build details, wanderlust travel, and the truth about van life with a big german shepherd!

"Why?".... options, freedom, wanderlust, experiences, frugal travel, new environments, see it all, relaxation, pursuing passions, treasuring/playing w our "toys" (I have camp/recreation gear I've been collecting since teens, I'm 56 now!), honoring/remembering my dad (an avid outdoorsman who taught me how to camp), and the list can go on and on.... I'm just getting started ;)

I'm always interested in how people in the nomad life handle keeping food and, so far, I have never seen a video of anyone using a food dehydrator in their van etc. I don't know why, because, to me at least, dehydrated food is a no brainer for someone wanting to or actually living the life and I say that for several reasons. ! ) Once you have a cache of dehydrated food, no refrigeration or freezing is needed to preserve your food. Therefore, a significant savings in fuel and/or power. 2 ) Dehydrated food takes up little space in your vehicle, where no doubt is at a premium. 3 ) Dehydrating food has an incredible reduction in the weight of the food you can carry with you. Properly dehydrated food has a loss of liquid content of about 95%. For instance, I once dehydrated 1 kilo of prawn ( shrimp ) tails and the end result weighed a mere 185 grams. I'll leave you to work out the % loss in liquid and, if you're a from Seppoland, the conversion to pounds and ounces as well. According to my very old acabus, it's a weight loss any failed dieter would be proud of! Almost any type of food can be dehydrated, including most fish and other seafoods. However some bird flesh should be avoided such as duck and goose because of the oil content, as should pork because of it's fat content. Oily and fatty meats just become rancid after dehydrating and aren't worth the effort. If you are going to go down the dehydrator track, I personally wouldn't be bothered using one of those little ones with the round trays in it. I have a Excalibur dehydrator with 9 14' square trays, so you can really load it up with food. As a foot note, if you have a dehydrator, you can easily make pemmican, one of the greatest survivor foods ever invented. Pemmican, if stored correctly, will last, not for weeks or months, but for years! So if you are of a conspiracy theorist's mindset and I'm not being critical one way or the other, pemmican just might be on your wish-list! Good Luck and I'll see you down the track, bye 'm' bye!

Linnea, you should be so proud of yourself! I have utilized your videos throughout my Promaster build. They are easy to understand and relatable. Just finishing up the last step, solar and electrical. Just took a maiden voyage fishing trip to Idaho and Montana. My wife and I had a VW camper when our kids were young. We regretted ever selling it but I just retired and it’s time to get back to that life of packing up the guitars and fly rods and going wherever. It is inspiring to others how you have learned how to use tools, and just jump into it without fear. OK-probably some fear. But what a challenging and fulfilling project. I have totally enjoyed the creativity and learning involved. Particularly when you can utilize your creation. Thanks again for the knowledge and inspiration!

Video idea 💡...a few days in the life of your brother...how he eats w out a fridge/freezer. I want to learn how to do this. Seriously if he eats protein bars or whatever. I mean hearing him say the root veggies stay fine a few days opened my eyes 👀 to oooh yes ok that means I can make a stew w beans on a camp fire. I have only camped a few times. And we took a cooler so I can't get my head around the idea of cooking w out one. Another idea 💡 how long do u personally have to be out camping to let go of the world and relax. I have not done it yet...I've camped 2, 3 and 4 days and I just keep thinking stuff like...when I get home I'm going to....and dang I'm sweating and I can't take a shower...and I can't get used to all these Flys and bugs ...this bed is NOT comfy and i wake up the next day and all I think about is wanting to take a nap all day becauseI slept awful the night before. Thinking I'm hot or I'm cold or I'm board or i miss this food or this drink...I'm embarrassed to admit these thoughts but they are real. "Push yourself into discomfort to see the beautiful world 🌎" Wow I'm going to keep telling myself this for inspiration.

I am working on them right now! They are pretty straight forward.... just a quick spoiler - I am also worried about the screws. Since my walls aren't installed yet, I am going to get same size bolts instead of the screws so they can be secured from the inside too. The video will be uploaded before the week is up!
@Trang-xq9fn
@Trang-xq9fn 3 жыл бұрын
@@Linneaandakela I am going to use bolts and rivnuts for these locks but have not had time to look for the same size bolts. For the 2 back doors, I may intall them on the inside of my van rather on the outside as suggested by the seller. Not sure about the sliding door lock yet. I am still at the tedious insulation phase... moving slowly.

My question is, Do you find it difficult to share your passion for vanlife, locations etc. with the worry of over population? I see with other YTers, its getting crowded in the advertised locations. I just worry about nature and LNT etc. Thanks for attempting to answer. Stay safe Have Fun!

He is a wonderful brother. And yes, I certainly do. Since geotagging had been created there has been a surge in the destruction of beautiful, fragile places. If I do share my location, I try to make sure that the land is somewhat protected, whether with permits or other measures. It has been sad traveling to public lands and seeing parts of it trashed by people that follow no LNT principles whatsoever... long answer to a simple question! Haha, yes!

I like your Q&A #1 protection remember that you have a 3 ton Van it will just about move anything.What I mean by that is you use the van to get away from the problem ( it is only sheet metal and they make new van every day) .Have the Van with a half a tank of gas ( a van like your can go 80 to 100 miles on a half of a tank of gas) drive to a public place with a lot of people ( safety in numbers). Do not stop for plain vehicles It need to have signs and label saying the the law enforcement name(call 911 that you are afraid of the vehicle and you need a mark vehicle and public place to stop # 2 you use the internet for buying Vans and look 200 to 400 miles circle from the place you live( I have purchase my last 10 to 12 vehicle on the internet and the smallest amount saved was $1000.00 to the highest of $3800.00) cargurus is great because it show how many days on the dealer lot ( the longer on the lot the cheaper) And to tell you I have owned 26 vans and number 27 is sitting in the driveway

Always better to have it and not needing it than needing it and not having it… firearms.. violent killers do not warn you nor do they setup a teams meeting for when they will snap and shootout a grocery store…everyone always prepares for everything except investing in life safety.. you never want to be a person that says “I never thought it would happen to me”.. it’s unfortunate but we don’t live in a utopian world. Great video, I am now in my planning phase! I can’t wait to see gods land! :)

Okay my question is I'm not afraid of doing the van life, because I've been doing it for almost 5 years now, but if I wanted to start a KZfaq channel what will you recommend me to start with?

It’s adorable how your dog followed you to pee, even though you didn’t call her.

QUESTION: I know I'm 2 years late, but all the places you visit, is it fees. I know when we were traveling in our Rv. We did a cross country, but the parks were 6 months to a year you would have to reserve. So the places you go are they just free? And where are them places. Like where are you at in this video.
