I remember having this episode and a bunch of others on tape at the end of the 80s. I didn't know if this was supposed to be the last episode. Lion-O proved himself over these 5 episodes that he was "truly the lord of the Thundercats." He overpowered Panthro in terms of strength. He outlasted and took the shortest but most dangerous path to beat Cheetara in terms of speed. He outsmarted Wily Kit and Kat in terms of cunning. He proved to have a stronger mind than Tygra in terms of mind power. Then, he finally defeated Mumm-Ra unarmed, but prepared with everything he learned that week leading up to what should have been his last fight against Mumm-Ras evil. Out of all the multi episode arcs in the series, this one was my favorite.

The only problem with the trial episodes is that they weren't shown consistently. After one trial episode the show has a completely different episode and after a few more different storyline it was another trial episode followed by another set of unrelated episodes before playing the next part of the trial when it would have been much more logical to show the trial episodes in the correct order. They also should have made it the finale of the first season.

That's only a problem for the DVD release. when this show aired on Toonami they actually aired the episodes in order and all of Lion-O's anointment Trails were played back to back. my issue is the animation, Everything is off model and doesn't look fitting for a finale to such a great arc

@ShanaReviews I found the complete series recently. I never did see how the show ended when I was a little kid at the end of the 80s. The episodes are basically the same as the previous releases regarding the Annointment Trials episodes. The other thing I noticed (with the help of IMDb) is that the four or five part Mumm-Ra Lives episodes are listed at the beginning of season 2, and Thundercats Ho is listed as the season finale (according to IMDb because of their air dates). The three new Thundarians were already there in Mumm-Ra Lives, but thanks to the DVDs T.H was put at the beginning of season 2 so the viewers were properly introduced to Bengali, Pumyra, and Lynx-O, and then annointed as Thundercats at the end of T.H part 5, just to avoid continuity errors. Then it leads into Mumm-Ra Lives.

They were always shown in order on the TV channel I watched.. What annoyed me about the 5-parter episodes was that there was almost always 1 day (usually Thursday, sometimes Wednesday) when I couldn’t watch.

That's actually how they were broadcast during the original airing back in 85 and the production order. They purposely spaced it out since these were important episodes.

i love that coronation song and how all those different races attending his coronation give third earth this whole sense of a physical setup of a mythological world with its own unique races that have their own setups, backgrounds, histories, etc that sometimes interconnect but are also very much independent. it gives it such vividness and believability for a cartoon. fleshed out with its own background and sense of history. making it more of a living world than just a bland, lifeless backdrop stage for the thundercats' adventures. similar in that sense of a mythos to he-man (both the 80s and 2002 version), lotr, d&d (including the 80s cartoon) and the transformers' universe (outer space in it, with a lot of different kinds of aliens). the presence of the remains of the ancient egyptian civilization and references to ancient ideas (EG robots being named hercules and samson) really give it a sense of history and ancientness that way too. cartoons after the end of the mid-1990s even at best are so dull and watery and weak compared to what they had back then. even at its best adventure time couldnt even nearly compare to what was going on in the 80s. clarence, uncle grandpa, gumball and all that are just filler shit. and whoever came up with steven universe should be fucking shot

It’s ONLY right when they make the Live action movie and for the premiere. You have to have a big spotlight with a red hue and the Thundercats logo in the middle. Have someone with the sword of omens. Chant Thunder 3 times. Then Thundercats. And have the entire crowd scream HOOOOOOOO!!!! While the spot light gleams bright in the night sky!!!!

The Book of Omens is the series finale. With Thundera reformed, but on the verge of splitting apart again, all of the Thundercats (minus Tygra and Pumyra) are put to the test to keep Thundera together as Lion-O plunges into the book to unlock the secrets and do battle with Mumm-Ra.

"Lion-o" (obviously a working name that found it's way into the final script) clearly didn't do functional training. His calves are extremely underdeveloped for a human / biped.... (But admittedly quite developed for a...lion? Or is he a "lion-o"?)

a very stupid channel That's why it was only a one-time occurrence. This, if you remember, was the ceremony after Lion-O finished and survived the anointment trials.

Sorry can't agree, I think the crown suited him. Keep in mind it was just a ceremonial crown, he would only wear it to formal occasions. He certainly wouldn't wear it in battle
