4 жыл бұрынLionel's #4014 Big Boy "First Run Edition" pulls into the station at last!
This particular version captures the first run edition of the Legendary #4014 - of which the Union Pacific Railroad recently restored to full service.
Lionel did a tremendous job in all regards here - effectively same detail / tooling as their Vision Line version from a few years back (minus the depleting coal load and blow-down steam effect features). An exceptional piece / rendition of quite possibly the most famous steam locomotive of all time.
Two other points of highlight:
I like that fact Lionel kept the dual-stereo sound system in both the boiler and tender (sound set is incredible - fortunately these do not suffer from the non-articulated sound set issue that plagued the VL Challengers last year).
The gloss finish on the boiler is incredibly unique (you have to see it in person to truly appreciate it - the video does not do it justice).

Beautiful engine. The engine looks so nice in the gloss. You are like me and love the big boy. You cant have enough of them, LOL

Agree - only regret was not getting a "second" vision line big boy....darn things are over $4K now.

i know this model was released in 2019 but the guy doing the crew talk for this engine aka Mr Lionel According to Chris From RBP Trains is on every diesel or steam model Lionel Released Till 2022 Then the Voice Changed

Great video Michael! That’s an amazing piece of lionel machinery lol. Interesting how they didn’t do a gloss finish on the tender too. I know it was the challenger tender but I thought it was still glossy?

Hi Nick - nice to hear from you and thanks for the comment. Very good observation on the tender - I thought the same myself in terms of the finish (it should be more of a glossy finish to match the boiler of the 4014). In real life, I think they used #3985's tender during the first runs of the #4014. I literally think Lionel just threw in a VL Challenger Tender with this model - there are noticeable differences between this tender and the #4012 tender I have (where one is clearly a Big Boy tender and the other is a Challenger tender). Difference in weight as well - which I also found strange. Oh well, subtle quirks - but overall amazing locomotives! Hope you are well pal!

Thank you - no, everything was in order on both locomotives when they arrived.

@@mjc6184 oh ok because wen mine got in the boiler cap was off and the bottom hinge was broken and the boiler cap was scratched but lionel sent us a hoal new peace and it now just got put on. I wont complaine because lionel took care of us and we now may have a spare boiler cap.

It's based off of UP's version of the 4014 when it just resumed service --> the boiler has a shiny plated finish, the words "Big Boy" are chalked on the front of the boiler - and there are a few more odds and ends (use of a Challenger Tender as opposed to the Big Boy Tender).

@@JaihyukChoi No - it's just a rendition of a particular version, as are the others (with the exception of the Greyhound scheme - which is more of a "fantasy what-if"

Im planning to purchase a o scale big boy soon. What should I look for if I want the most iconic one? I know there are like 4 versions of it.

Sky Sprinter I would go for 4014 then....given it’s currently in service - and probably now the most famous of the Big Boys - IMO.
