An amazing sighting of the Enkoyonai lion pride in the early morning as they got themselves a warthog! Despite there being a large clan of hyenas surrounding them the lions and their cubs finished their breakfast with minimal interruption!

Thanks for posting. Sounds like we have a soon to be king, lion cub with an attitude problem around the 10 mimute mark. Trying to show Mom and aunty who is boss. Ha! Then the coveted cautious approach at 15’minutes (this is the head lioness with a portion of her right ear torn off) ending in a surprise free bee. And the best. At 18.25 you have two lioness, back left and back right, vying for position and ownership of a big chunk of bone, just holding their ground for about 30 seconds. The lioness back right succumbs. Leaving the final lioness with the biggest piece of bone and an opportunity to create an escape plan. And so the other two lionesses finish up. Then it’s just the cubs and her. She lets the little ones get a few more nibbles in. Then she’s off. Well done. Another tidbit. The first lioness off the kill was the last one to start eating. The head lioness here leading the pride has the shortest amount of time chowing down. But I’m sure she is just happy that the pride is eating. It’s great to see how they interact with each other. I love seeing this lions thrive. Pretty cool.

God! Can you imagine the kind of pain that warthog is feeling until it finally dies?? What a painful way to go, man. Being eaten while you’re fully conscious. I was so glad when it finally stopped screaming in pain.

This was an awesome sighting Rob. I'm surprised that there wasn't more snarling than what we saw and heard. The little cubbies high pitched snarls - trying to act like their mums. Mum will have a time cleaning that one who was covered in blood. They will definitely be in search for more food. That warthog was their morning snack. The looks on those Hyenas faces. So close, but no cigar. Thanks for the video.

At least lions try to suffocate their prey first. Compared to wild dogs and hyenas, it’s less “gruesome” if there’s such a thing. Those guys will eat you alive 99% of the time.

Lions use suffocation to subdue their prey, but if they have the numbers the others aren’t going to wait. They don’t suffocate them to minimize their suffering, it’s just an effective way to subdue and kill the animal faster. Hyenas and wild dogs generally don’t have large enough jaws to suffocate their prey, generally exhaust their prey before they catch them, and animals die pretty fast when they are into several parts in a matter of seconds. Shock sets in fast and massive blood loss the way wild dogs kill.
