nope. its a job of respect. once the fight starts you bang it out. but before and after there is no real need. i mean, there are things during the fight that i could see causing bad blood, like purposely eye gouging of low blows. but in the normal fights we see its just a job.

Eh not really. There's levels to disrespect - sometimes its natural with the amount of animosity and tension that is created when two elite tier fighters come together. But it can go too far like when Conor started touching on religion and culture in the lead up to the Khabib fight

Fedor had the most intimidating staredown of all. He just looked at his opponents with this "we both know you are already dead" look. Outside the ring he was humble and a really nice guy, but when the bell rang, he transformed into a mixture of a wolverine in murderous frenzy and a psychotic grizzly bear - tldr: the GOAT.

Thompson isn't trying to intimidate, he's putting on a show for the Japanese fans. He did that Street Fighter posing once and they loved it, so it became his thing and probably got him some more fights than he would have otherwise gotten - he was a rather untrained fighter.

I watched a fight recently between Jack Dempsey and Jess Willard for the heavy weight boxing championship back in 1919. Before the fight they didn't just touch gloves they almost held hands. It lasted for several seconds before the fight. Jack Dempsey went on to destroy the current champion Jess Willard but after the fight congratulated Dempsey on his victory. No taunting by either side. No disrespect. No nothing. We could learn a lot from them.

I have to admit as an amateur fighter, I used to psych myself out enough for the both of us. I must have fought 100 fights in my head before I even got in the ring. I did pretty good, but I never really met another fighter I didn't respect or gain respect from, after the fight. It takes balls to ante up with a complete stranger (in front of tons of people) to see whos the better fighter. I never lost thought of that and always thanked them for the fight. Maybe its an amateur thing. 🤷♂️
