Randy, thx for verbalizing some of the finer points about friendships. There are friendships and there are acquaintance. Friends stay and acquaintances tend to drift away. Real friends tend to gravitate together, regardless of background or age, with (as you say) no expectations demanded, or imposed. Thx for the reminders...!

I've been playing bullet games lately and I've often find myself fighting the clock more than anything, which really causes me to blunder more often than not. It can be very frustrating, because it is clearly moves that I wouldn't be making if I "had more time on the clock." Is it just me?! -- It's frustrating! Ha! Also: there are so many different variables that go into the Caro-Kann Opening, that I sometimes forget what "the next move" will be, based on what my opponent does (sometimes making odd moves that go completely contrary to what is taught, etc.). Admittedly, I've yet to watch this full video, but I'm working my way through it. It would be great to hear from you. I always ask myself, "What would Alex do if he were in this position?" whenever I'm playing sometimes, Haha! Thank you for the teachings, as always! I've improved so much, thanks to these incredible openings. The Caro-Kann and the London are amazing. I'm still figuring out how to use the London with white, but I've been pretty successful, thus far, along with a lot of strange blunders in-between! Such is life!

Hi Alex! Amazing video. Btw, aside from your speed-run, do you have any companion materials (of yours or that you'd recommend) on the Slav Defense? (Since that is probably the most common alternative that Black 1...c6 players will face)

With Black pawn on f5, the position reminds of the Dutch semi-slav, difficult to attack and decent launchpad for attacks by Black. 😊

Dude do you have any suggestions for the Rasa-Studier Gambit? I thought I had every CK line burned into my retinas thanks to your videos. This weekend I was playing an older guy that I was trying to bait into the Tartakower. Instead of taking the free pawn, he hit me with 4.f3?! I didn't realize it was a gambit that I declined because "When in doubt, develop." But after the game, he told me that was his only counter to CK since he learned about it from a GM 20 years ago. I tried to figure out who this guy was but he wouldn't talk numbers other than remembering his push for 2k like me 40 years ago... I wound up drawing him with a miracle but I was shook on move 4. I researched it and still don't know what to do.

Great content. Only one suggestion that would help newbs like me. When a master faced with two choices, both of which seem equal, like maneuvering the knight to a specific square (here e6) via two separate routes, makes his choice, Alex's response is that the choice is "interesting". IE 58:10. My question is always, why is that choice "interesting". Why did the master choose that route over the other route? So, Howell, in this situation, placed his knight first on the rim to get, ultimately to e6, instead of choosing to go the more central direct route starting with knight to d7. Why did Howell choose this route over the more direct central route?

I started watching your Caro- Kann masterclass today and thought 'oh this looks so easy and straight forward' - ...... The first game I tried it I won a a central pawn early, traded queens and concerted unexpectely well with 90% accuaracy :D which is surprisingly high for me. Game also felt smooth. I think your videos definetly contributed to that game and they're appreciated! Also: Not sure if you still do Caro-Kann speedruns but did you consider doing an analysis after the game? just talking through your thought process which you might not have the time to mention during the game
