A child pageant to me should be little kids being as cute as possible and showing actual amazing talents. Not little girls being put in makeup and inappropriate outfits trying to make them look like adults. They're children, they should be shown and treated as such. It also shouldn't be this horrible stress inducing competition so the parents can live their dreams through their children. It should be a friendly competition where the kids actually get to have fun and make friends. It's disgusting what it's been made into. Sexualizing children is the most horrible and disgusting thing ever, and I just can't believe so many parents are okay with this. They're innocent little girls, treat them like that and let them be kids.

It almost looks like uncanny valley seeing children wearing such mature make up. Unsettling.

Hard to regulate, we don’t even properly provide the legal protections already put in place for child protection. However at very least I wish that these parents didn’t have things like swimsuit sections (though they aren’t as common recently due to social pressures)

A lot of mouthwash uses alcohol for its base (same with extracts like vanilla) so the mom might just be using that to get drunk.

I knew an older man who was helping to raise his Son's children because his alcoholic ex-daughter-in-law had become so desperate, she was resorting to regularly drinking Listerine.

Listerine is alcohol based, and there are also people that figure out the right proportions of food coloring to add clear liquor to mask it as mouthwash.

There’s nothing wrong with kids who want to perform having an outlet, beauty pageants exist internationally and are actual paying jobs. Most kids don’t have a real concept for beauty but they know when they are having fun and when they are being themselves or when they be/feel beautiful. There nothing wrong with self confidence or happiness with inself and one’s body. While adult competitions are a different type of nightmare/drama/work as a kid it really should be fun to dress up and fun to show off your talents and fun to do routines that win you money or scholarships and a way to pay for your future education/expenses. There’s a difference between bad adults who abuse kids and a kid who just wants to mimic an adult thing they see. While there’s outrage over child rodeo events due to injury there’s not much outrage over seeing a little kid in a stylish cowboy/cowgirl outfit that’s designed to make them look older(not just for safety). Some kids just wanna dress up say yee-haw and feed a horse hay let ‘em other kids will want to be like the bull riders or be like the barrel racers or be like the jockeys let ‘em learn or don’t. Overall it’s a child’s talent show to display their skills and or give them rewards that can reflect on their scholarships and applications if applicable. (Ie. Extracurricular include award winning 1st place prize year XXXX, etc. to show not only dedication to an event and competition but community and with a progression of skill and ability over time. A good learner) Patents/beauty contests/actresses/models/glam in general can all participate for fun in a beauty contest. Gymnastics, Dancers, Musicians, performers of other genres can join in ‘beauty pageants’ so that minor activities and select skills can be compared in one room even if those skills drastically vary. Even if your daughter joins a sports team there’s a great likelihood they will be bullied off court or out of the sport by their senior graduation. And even if they are successful their notoriety is considered less historically important/not recorded as frequently/not monetized or sponsored as frequently and that there’s a chance that if they decide to have a family they can age out of competitons/media circulation and fame. So idk let the kids have a competition where they’re given a chance to win before they enter a world where awards are hardly handed out? Let them express whatever skill and passion they like for the time their allowed so that they can have photos of them performing and displaying their skills not just learning in a public classroom for that skill and going home everyday to know ‘you learned it but have no proof of progression or a system that rewards you for learning and placing best amongst your peers’?

Most of these poor kids have a Dad in the family as well. But I guess they get a pass?

You’ve never lived in a southern state have you? I find children’s beauty pageants repulsive, but many disagree. It is a huge money-making industry. I feel the little girls are the victims and lose their childhoods to these pageants that are held most weekends and then travel to the bigger regional ones. For cheap trophies and nominal amounts of cash prizes. The people running the pageants are the ones making the big money! It’s exploitation of little girls that is still allowed to continue!

While there are issues in the acting scene involving children, they have much more protections than a kid in a beauty pageant or a KZfaq channel would. They have systems in place and rules to protect the kids. Most likely they’re not being exploited. That’s more of an issue with bigger child stars unfortunately, but yeah that’s not a thing with all child actors and you can’t just say that when you know nothing about the situation.

​@DexDexter0 it used to be much worse then today but historically children actors were used as meal tickets by family and emotionally and (sometimes/often) physically abused just like lots of pageant children are today only there is less protection for pageant kids as it's harder to regulate if I understand correctly. That's why you hear so many stories about Disney child actors burning out or having scandals (the control is nuts and corrupt) it's really sad. May died young in the past. It's still messy in areas but the more light we put on it the more they can't get away with anymore.
