Presumably, he got the records from his other colleagues and knew they already ruled out all the things they thought it could have been. So he didn't need to test for any of that, because they already had. At that point, he knew that whatever this guy had, it was way out of a normal doctor's ballpark and he needed to see a specialist. Not necessarily the smartest one, just one who had more information than the previous doctors and knew he was way out of his depth here. Most of the time, if something is wrong with you, a normal doctor will be able to fix you just fine. They look for normal stuff, because 95% of the time, it is normal everyday stuff. The other 5% are the cases we see on the show.

Gold in general is just not toxic on its own. You can eat it (I even did once). But gold compounds can sometimes release gold ions, which are very toxic. It's rarity isn't the reason for the failure to figure out what it is: it's the fact that gold isn't part of the heavy metal testing, as it is not toxic.

@FlandreScarletshadowBlood
@FlandreScarletshadowBlood Жыл бұрын
It's not just not an obvious one. It's a near impossible one. Gold is not toxic in it's metallic form. It's completely edible in fact, and you can even find places that serve it in food. However, some compounds that include gold will instead release gold ions after ingestion, which are very toxic. Since gold is not a toxic heavy metal, they don't test for it.

@@jonathantio7531 I see. I understand now. She put gold sodium thiomalate into her husband's food which remained in her hands but when she goes to the washroom, she would wash her hands thus proof that she was the one who "poisoned" her husband's food would be gone (before House had a chance to test her hands for evidence - thus he didn't want her washing her hands). She wouldn't get the poisoning because she was not ingesting the gold sodium thiomalate (which I mistakenly thought was absorbed through the skin) but rather, it was present in her hands because she touched it to sprinkle onto husband's food. Now onto my next question... isn't it expensive to poison someone by gold?
@toomanyaccounts
@toomanyaccounts Жыл бұрын
@@bernardsoh3559depends upon the amount. gold sodium thiomalate is a treatment for arthritis that is injected. about 500 dollars per dose. the other medicine that has gold is an oral medication Gold Salts which is also used to treat arthritis also about 500 bucks Yes it would be expensive but it wouldn't be something the police would investigate because no one would think of it. its a rare allergy and the idea of someone using a portion of their expensive med that had gold wouldn't cross the minds of people. odds are no autopsy would either be done or tests for heavy metals wouldn't be done if an autopsy was conducted

While I believe the team should be giving house the benefit of the doubt. Instead of insisting on their own diagnoses, They should offer different ways to disprove his theory. Like completely ruling out heavy metal poisoning completely since house was adamant on it. Just run all known heavy metal tests, even the uncommon unusual metals. Completely forcing house to give up on his diagnosis instead of just puffing out their chest and proceeding with their own treatments or doing tests to find new leads with their boss annoying them the whole time. Oh well, its a show and it was written this way for the entertainment value.
