Unfortunately, the Little River Band that tours the United States today contains NO ORIGINAL MEMBERS. Hey, gentlemen, brilliant stuff. First time I heard this was driving to Little River to see Barry Meyers! On a more serious note, back around '77 I bought a Guild S100 guitar which I was told had belonged to LRB. Was it one of yours and was it stolen??!!

@@ShorrockBirtlesGobleI walked by the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis, Massachusetts last night and could hear this cover band playing. They were introducing “Reminiscing” like they wrote and recorded it themselves. They kept making references to 1978 even though none of them were in the band then and then saying how the crowd might know the song from weddings etc. blah blah blah

These aren't the "original members." Roger McLachlan was the original bass player and Ric Formosa was the original lead guitarist, and neither were in the band when they played this concert. Neither were their two replacements, George McArdle (bass) and David Briggs (lead guitar), who were subsequently replaced by Wayne Nelson (bass) and Steven Housden (lead guitar, greed, and ethically bankrupt scumbaggery).

When I first saw them back in 1979 I believe, I admit I did not know who they were. They opened up for Boz Skaggs in Omaha, Nebraska. From the first minute of the first song, It's a Long Way There, I became a fan and have listened to them for over 40 years now. Always felt they were underrated. By the way, they put Boz Skaggs to shame that night!!

You're kidding, right? The REAL LRB existed from 1975 to 1980/81 -- five or six years. Since then it's been a laughable revolving door of more than 20 hired hands, who had nothing to do with writing the original songs, recording or performing them. And they were minions of the slimeball replacement guitarist (whose name I won't mention) who wrestled away the name "Little River Band" in a bizarre court case and then spent about 20 years bilking unsuspecting fans out of their concert ticket money by touring with what was essentially a Vegas-level cover band. There hasn't been "5 decades of great classic rock & roll" -- there was about five years of that, followed by four decades of posers pretending to be LRB.

Lrb is my favourite band because I think that sometimes they are reading my email or something like that I just know they have a very good understanding of life that I can relate to and I thank you very much little river band for that I hope everyone has had the same experience with reminiscing about their life. Unfortunately I never have had that for me but I have had the opportunity because of the talented musicians in your band and that I get to feel every time I play your beautiful music and that is what I will have to keep little river band thank you very much for your gift that your band has given to us

Great memories! I saw this band June 1980 live at an open air concert in Munich, Germany and still can remember this fantastic masterpiece of a song played live. It’s nearly 44 years ago now but the emotions when listening this song now are nearly the same like in these good old days: long hairs, surrounded by best friends, feeling free and easy. No bad things on our radar. There were some other top notch bands of that era playing at that open air like Fleetwood Mac, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Fischer-Z and some others which don’t come to my mind now. I am very grateful to have grown up at that time and had having experienced this wonderful time of great music to the fullest.

Just a thanks to the administrator of this "site". I made a comment about this version that was mostly pretty positive (it should be - LRB have been a personal favourite since the band morphed from Mississippi - and the various predecessor bands, so for more than 40 years), but expressed a cautiously critical view about one aspect and that provoked a rather nasty response. I am relieved & pleased to see that comment appears to have been deleted. I also commend people check out Roger McLachlan's "Isolated Bass" series for It's a Long Way There and other LRB songs that McLachlan played on. It is a superb series. For It's a Long Way There he is joined by Ross Cockle (who engineered LRB in the studio those days) and both give some great insights into McLachlan joining LRB and the recording of the song (including, for example, that what went on the vinyl was largely a live take of the entire song, with some overdubs added). He also talks with Beeb about a couple of Beeb's songs on the first two LRB albums on other editions of Isolated Bass.

You really shouldn't even refer to that other guitar player (we all know who you're referring to). He's a scumbag who spent 20-some-odd years fronting the Vegas-style cover band version of LRB. Ric Formosa and David Briggs were the only two legitimate lead guitarists of The Little River Band -- ever (well, aside from Beeb, who did play lead occasionally). The one that succeeded Briggs may have been a member of the band as far as the courts are concerned, but after what he did, his existence doesn't deserve acknowledgement by true LRB fans. On a side note, "the guy from Player" is Peter Beckett. Really talented guy, but he should've stayed away from the lounge act that was LRB after the core broke up and that "other guitar player" became the puppet master.

Great clip from my fave Oz band. I am old enough to remember as far back as Zoot, The Twilights, Axiom, Travis Wellington Hedge, Mississippi and many LRB gigs in Adelaide (I recall seeing LRB, James Wright and some other act at the Festival Theatre for the princely sum of $1.00!). All those bands made great music, but LRB went to a whole new level - superb vocals and harmonies, Pellici belting the daylights out of his kit but playing lots of really clever little fills. If I have to nit-pick, not overly impressed by Housden's guitar work though. He is a good player to a point, but for me this song works best with the guitarist playing the fills but hanging back and weaving the fills around the melody line like Formosa (I think still the best of the LRB guitarists). Call me nostalgic if you must, but I think Housden is "pushing" too hard and I don't think it works for the song.

I agree. Ric Formosa and David Briggs were both fantastic lead guitarists, but this new guy was more concerned with flash and playing like he got paid by the note. Given what he did not too long after the core broke up (I'm referring to his legal skullduggery and wrestling the name of the group away in that bizarre court case), it all fits together like a puzzle. The impression I get is that it was all about him, his greed and ambition, and LRB was his vehicle.

@@gw2031 Do a search on YT for Graeham Goble’s interviews. There is a fairly recent one done by a subscriber - Rock History Music ( or some similar name). Graeham tells the whole dreadful story here, for the first time, in detail. It’s a horror!!!! For the original LRB, and for us proud Aussies.

@@allymayful Yeah, that's the one -- the interview that Canadian D.J. John Beaudin did with Graham, for Rock History Music, is excellent. Like you say it's a dreadful story, but the truth needs to be out there and Graham lays it all out in vivid detail. I feel so sorry for the lads and what they've had to put up with because of that scumbag former guitarist (whose name doesn't even deserve mention) and what he did in that bizarre court case awhile back. He makes Gordon Gekko look like a saint.
