I thank you for this. Gorgeousness. You are such a good teacher. I like how you simplify these processes, although they take patience. I ❤ that you show the final glazed pieces and explain the finishing glaze, but I would like to see that done as well. Many thanks and keep'em coming. My blank pots intimidate me!!

Ann , to prevent bleeding I read once you can brush over the paper stencil with the color that’s under it, let that firm up and it seals the stencil. You can then add the contrasting color over the top and it’s supposed to prevent bleeding. I’ve never tried it but it’s worth a try ! Love your videos. 😊😊

Hey April. Come to think of it, I have heard that too but if the stencil goes directly over the clay, what would you use? Would you brush a slip of the same color? I wonder if that would work

I've done it with painters tape and latex and acrylic paint. It works great for those so I don't know why using slip and underglaze wouldn't work the same.

You are the master at this type of design for sure as well as freehand painting with underglaze. I watch these videos and get all excited and know I have velvet underglazes in my garage but then remember that my studio fires to cone 10 and I get discouraged. Thinking of ways to get around this. They don't allow low or mid fire clay in the studio. We bisque to cone 04. Could I bisque fire, then high fire, then use underglaze on the naked pieces and then put them through the bisque kiln again to get the vibrant colors? Would that be hot enough for the velvets?

Hey Vicki. I see your dilemma. I do know that even at the low temperatures, you will get great colors from the underglaze. The part I am not sure about is if the underglaze would be absorbed well on clay that is vitrified....Actually, a lot of the underglazes may make it through to a cone 10 firing. You should do some test tiles and see which ones will work at cone 10

Great projects Ann! Have you tried wetting your paper before you put it on the piece? Vaughn Smith does it that way. I'm wondering if it is easier to deal with the paper when it's wet or when it's dry. I can see this working well with sgraffito designs too. Thanks for posting!

Looks like she brushed water on a plate and then on the template
@annruel1982
@annruel1982 5 ай бұрын
I did both brush water on the plate and wet the piece, but I found that the more fiddly templates would wither when they got wet and were difficult to place without sticking to itself. I found the best way to handle it is to wet the clay if possible. Good tip though. Thanks so much Pat!

Hi Ann, awesome video as always. But just a question, did you do all these paper resist techniques on greenware or bisque. I am thinking bisque?
@annruel1982
@annruel1982 5 ай бұрын
Hey Dragonboat! I did all of the plates on greenware. They were easier to clean up when I needed to when they were on greenware as opposed to bisque. Good question.
@stopaskingmedumbquestions
@stopaskingmedumbquestions 5 ай бұрын
I think she's using greenware since she carves bits away in a few spots. Can't do that with bisque. Not nearly as well anyway.
@annruel1982
@annruel1982 5 ай бұрын
@@stopaskingmedumbquestions You are right. I am doing it on greenware as it is much easier to clean up any mistakes then if I did it on bisqueware. Happy potting to you.

Thank you for this tutorial! I'm wondering, do you have any tips on how you position/find smaller circles on a plate that are always so neatly centered?
@LittleStreetPottery
@LittleStreetPottery 4 ай бұрын
Not sure I understand but if you reposition the plate on a wheel so the center of the plate is where you want to place the circle you can then spin the wheel and trace...or use cutouts or bottle tops etc...

Wonder if you can take a very fine misting spray to wet your dry grasses instead of painting on the water or dipping the grass stencil into water before you lay it down ?
