The 2022 Hyundai Tucson has a larger trunk than the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe, but is it really? In this video, Peter examines these entry-level vehicles and compares the size, ergonomics, and practicality of each to help you decide which one is best for you!

Thank you Very Much for showing the cargo space on these two vehicles! I think I agree with you; the Tucson cargo area is taller in large part due to the lower load floor. It seems that Santa Fe chose to raise the load floor but then give you back a bunch of space *under* the load floor. I much prefer this, because I can hide more stuff, and as I said in the comment that I requested you do this, I am more interested in square feet than cubic feet since I don't load cargo very high. Having that under-floor storage is like giving me more square feet (though I suppose Hyundai could have just given us the lower load floor and skipped all the hidden space.) So again thank you very very much for making this video - it was exactly what I wanted to see :-)

Great video! Great job on all your vids, they are very helpful. One question regarding options/accessories (sorry, I know it’s not related to this vid specifically). Does Hyundai offer a tow package for the Tucson? I don’t see one on their website and I haven’t seen any video showing that as an option.

You can get an accessory tow hitch for that vehicle. The 2022 Tucson tows 2000 lbs.

Love your comparison reviews. I recently bought a 2021 Santa Fe Limited to replace my 2013 Santa Fe Sport. I loved the 2013 but appreciate the upgrades in the new model. So the day came to upgrade my Sony rear projection TV. Went to my local warehouse club and bought a 75" flat screen. I assumed I would need to strap it to the roof or tilt it on it's side to get in through the hatch. To my surprise the boxed TV fit in the rear cargo area flat on the floor between the wheel wells with the front seats moved forward I was able to close the hatch! Love my Santa Fe!

i really liked this! I have a 2023 tucson sel with convenience package and always wondered what the differences were. Sadly there are very few cheap mods that I can find for the tucson currently, such as a rear splitter or something along those lines to really clean up the rear of the car. The tucson looks more city and younger style while the santa fe has a more gated community look to it. I like both but the tucson fits in better where i live.

I saw you mention the space under the load floor in the Santa Fe and that you mentioned you would measure it for us but I think you may have forgot about it? I’m really curious about how much there is and does that shrink the difference from the Tucson
@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 2 жыл бұрын
Oh! I definitely forgot about that. I do think the Santa Fe is likely a little bigger when you include the underfloor storage, but the Tucson has a large open space, it's definitely close!

Good video and my mom is considering a Tucson. Now, here what I like and don't like; LIKE Tucson 1. Standard LED headlights 2. Wireless car play 3. Nice center console 4. Better less boring gouges. 5. Lots of Standard features Don't like 1. No push start button (CX5 has it) 2. No rear vents 3. No engine immobilizer THE SANTA FE I LIKE 1. that center console 2. Space 3. Gauges 4. Leather steering Don't like 1. For a car with lots of buttons, no push start button 3.

The volume and tuning knobs on the Santa Fe make it look like it's an Etch-a-Sketch. Very nice entry level tech on both, but yeah, I'd go for the Sante Fe. Having the leather steering wheel is something I really appreciate having on my Rio. All surrounded by plastic (albeit nice looking plastic) the leather feels nice and it's something you're always touching. I don't really care about padded arm rests on the doors. I am not a small person, but I never found I put much weight on my arm where it would make a huge difference. I understand that it's a small way to make a car feel more expensive though.
@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! I am someone who uses the armrests from time to time, especially on a long trip, and to me... if they're padded, the designers took the time to care about the driver... if not... they short-cut something. That little amount of padding can't be the difference in cost between someone saying they'll buy it, or they won't, so I think every car should have some padding there. The other thing that frustrates me, is that the Forte gets this right. They have padded armrests on the door, even at the $20,000 range. Then you move to a $30,000 Sportage and you lose that feature. That seems like the wrong way to do things. If the car is 1.5 times as much money, it should only be adding features, not taking them away... especially something as low cost as this. (Sorry about the rant! :)

@@BrantfordKia No problem at all with the rant Peter!. I try to ask questions that others may also be thinking about and I really appreciate the fact you take the time to answer pretty much every time. I get likes from time to time, which is nice and hopefully that meant they had a similar question you answered. I can't explain why I am watching video after video, especially since I'm not looking at upgrading from my wonderful little Rio for at least a few years. You are failing at 'not being entertaining'! Looking forward to watching the red Stinger GT L video after work tonight.

I'm super-glad the Hyundai Santa Fe does *not* offer a 3rd row, because it seems all manufacturers assume I want captain's chairs in the top trim levels. I have a family of five and I want everyone in the first two rows to maximize cargo space, so the larger Palisade is disqualified for me (if they *did* offer a bench seat no-cost option on the top-trim Palisade, I'd buy that.) Obviously, with only two rows, I get my bench seat in the 2nd row and life is good :-) Love the Santa Fe in Calligraphy trim and the turbo-4 :-)
@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that middle row seating is something that I'd love to see as an option to be captains chairs or bench seating, but I guess that creates situations where dealers are left with a difficult to guess at mix of product on the lot. The short answer is that they're selling just about every top of the line Palisade that they can make, so it's hard for Hyundai to see the need for change just yet.
@kpcasey
@kpcasey 3 жыл бұрын
Isn't the Kia Sorento and the Santa Fe the same chassis? I wonder if the Santa Fe has that under panel storage in the back, because that's where the 3rd row on the Sorento would fold into/be used by? I can tell you this, I didn't know that was there and that really, really has me considering one now... I have lots of "small stuff" when I play golf that I store in the hatch right now, shoes, balls, rain gear, etc... that doesn't always have to go in the bag. I was looking at a Sorento, Tucson, heck, even a Telluride/Palisade. But I think the Santa Fe would hit the sweet spot for my needs. I just want to see what happens with the Santa Cruz, and the new Sportage... I'm not in an immediate need, but sometime next year. (Electric is out, since old house and would have to spends thousands upgrading the service to 200A for the charger, making it a non-starter, but I really like the idea of the EV6... but not as much room in the back hatch area). Santa Fe though? Sweet spot.

What is the width of the Tucson with the mirrors out? What is the width of the vehicle with the mirrors in the driving position? The Cdn Hyundai website say 1865 mm while the US says 73.4 inches without mirrors. Doing the conversion, the Cdn site gives the same dimension. What is meant by "Without Mirrors"? Is it with mirrors tucked in or no mirrors on the vehicle? My concern is actually being able to put the vehicle into the single car garage on a townhouse.
@BrantfordKia
@BrantfordKia 2 жыл бұрын
Without mirrors tends to be literally without mirrors, but when they're folded, they're very close to the same width as the rest of the vehicle. I don't have the exact measurement, but if you were local to us, we'd just let you take it home to see how it fits in your garage. Regardless of trim, they're all the same width. So hopefully that can be done for you.

Wonderful video! One thing that I think is important that I didn't hear addressed was the width. If you're looking for more shoulder room (rump room?) the Santa Fe is wider and that difference may be enough to sway someone away from one and to another. In my case, I've got broad enough shoulders that I would likely feel cramped in the Tucson but totally ok in the Santa Fe. Also having a wife who likes to hog the centre console is a factor as well.

We're Canadian, and we use the metric system, but for things like legroom, or the length of a vehicle, etc. They can be harder to visualize than feet and inches. We often alternate between metric and imperial. I weigh myself in pounds and measure myself in feet, like most Canadians.

Very unprofessional video. Lol... "we could check that with a tape measure but instead I'm going to just guess"... Well FYI for everyone he's wrong about the cargo depth. I had my local dealer measure them exactly for me so here is the actual measurements... Tucson: Depth: 38.5", Front Height: 34, Rear Height: 31, Btwn Wheels: 41, Mid Height Width: 51, Rear Width: 56". Santa Fe: Depth: 43.5", Front H: 33, Rear H: 30.5, Btwn Wheel Width: 43.5, Mid Width: 54, Rear Width: 54".

Yep, and I’m Canadian! Imperial just makes more sense for length and width and honestly, everyone I know uses inches and feet. Even grocery stores advertise in pounds but charge by the kg. The metric system didn’t arrive in Canada until the late 70s so there’s a lot of people who weren’t taught metric or who like myself were taught both.
