I like using small pinfish for slot reds. The most fun way to catch them is with my 3wt fly rod. Having fun catching the bait as well as the game fish.

Excellent video. Really enjoyed it. Sorry, finger Mullet, mud minnows, as well as pin fish, are the easiest baits to keep alive if you don't overcrowd. I can keep a 8 to 10 finger mullet alive in a 5-gallon bucket with a battery operated bubbler (helps to keep a gatorade bottle full of ice in there to keep it cool). In each of my 30 gallon oval, portable bait tanks, it is easy to keep a dozen hog legs alive (overflowed,and plumbed to receive some fresh, as well as recirculating water). I wanted to suggest, as I have had success with it, instead of lifting the castnet full of bait (like ballyhoo) out of the water, submerge a rope handle bucket under the net, then release the bait into the bucket in the water, and scoop them out? Instead of lifting the net out of the water, and treating the bait like rocks in tumbler, removing slime and scales. I have taken a swim noodle, ran a rope through the center of the noddle, and wrapped the noodle under the lip of the rope handle bucket (and zipped tied from the bucket holes for the rope handle in the bucket, to the noodle to keep it in place). I will even drag the floating bucket around the 3' to 4' of water while looking for bait like mullet while fishing off the beach. Anyone have success chumming for finger mullet with bread crumbs? While throwing for bait around the Skyway (Tampa Bay) and throwing in the shadows, I have loaded up the 12' net with 6 - 5gallon buckets of bait, too heavy to lift , and resulted with 6 buckets full of chum. However, when I sink the bucket under the closed net, and release, and overflow the bucket (most of the bait released back into the bay and makes excellent chum :() I can manage what I need to keep, and it is much healthier. I don't catch nearly that many ballyhoo (maybe a few dozen at most), but don't lift them out of the water. Release into the floating bucket, and scoop them out with a dip net. Still much quicker than a single little hook, or a sabiki, and slightly better treatment than a hoop net. You just have to deal with storing the bucket while not in use (I just throw my nets in the bucket and store down in v-berth).

how much is your time catching bait worth? I watched the captain catch enough bait in 15 minutes for a whole trip and only cost a little chum. Pays for itself.

Great seminar. Amazes me how thorough you are being a teacher without looking at any notes. Constant information. You are a natural and come across sincerely trying to teach others how to catch fish. Keep the videos coming please! What size net would you recommend from a jetty, bridge, beach? 8-10 foot? Both 3/8 and 1 inch? Would you have add rope I would think to a net when casting off a bridge? Would you still chum from a bridge?

How tall is the bridge? What are the prevalent bait species that you're trying to catch? Need answers in order to provide answers. In any case, thanks for watching and please join www.FSFTV.com.

@@FloridaSportFishing I will have to research how high but it’s the Tampa Bay skyway pier bridge. I also want to cast from jetty about six feet off the water to catch finger mullet and pilchards. Will that require two different nets? When casting for the finger mullet it will be in moving water in the Venice Inlet. The beach next to the jetty has smaller white baits and pin fish. Sometimes they are just off the beach and sometimes they require walking waste high to cast. Thank you for responding. Awesome show. Watch you as much as I can. Do you do live shows? On your free time? Lol best bait KZfaq yet!

I was thinking Broward has a special county law when on the beach and possibly land the max net size is 7ft. In a boat this law may not apply

This is a common misconception due to people not knowing how a castnet is measured. A net is measured from the horn to the lead line (radius), and the largest net you can legally use is 14' in radius. The confusion is in that it reads that the largest net you can use is 14', and people overthink it and say, "well a 7' net opens up to 14', so the largest net I can use is 7', right?" And that is incorrect. Nets are only measured in radius and you can not buy a net bigger that 14' so dont worry about it. This only applies to florida.

@goferizer
@goferizer 4 жыл бұрын
Peterk814 Several of the crimps on my Bally Hoop failed after one use and fortunately we had crimpers on board to fix the loose ones and re-crimp the others. We sent an email and pictures of the failure to JR and he called me to get the full story. I thought he was sincere and seemed truly interested in fixing the issue which he said was a crimp quality issue. I think its just his speaking style. The net works well but its stupid expensive but.......... when you catch 100 live, pristine ballyhoo in 45 minutes on a good morning who cares?!!

Dear Ballyhoop, Y'know, I'd much rather buy 3 cast nets than pay $329 for one singular ballyhoop, no matter how good it is, it won't match up to two skilled guys front and back of the boat with 12ft cast nets. Not to mention, aside from him wanting $329usd, what part of a piece of polycarbonate rod and a net mesh wrapped into a cone is worth $329usd? Did the guy forget how much money $329 is or something? Cause I didn't, that's $2200+ in my local currency, for that money, I can bootleg his idea by using the very same thing I'm certain he started with, just a plain hula hoop, and still have $2175 left over, then another $75 at the craft store getting some 1/4" net mesh and you're pretty much done, go home and sew it all up. Where's the rest of my money going? Ahhhh, his pocket, gotcha, nice boats don't buy themselves.
