Fear Is the main thing that Governments like to strike Into It's workers and the Citizens. Chelsea Manning was sentenced to put fear Into other people who wanted to follow In her footsteps. Cause they failed to get Julian Assange they targeted the source Instead. If you cannot shut down the site that makes the documents public then target the people who distribute the documents Instead. Fear never stopped Snowden, Assange or Chelsea and still these people have made a big change to how we think and see the Government. They can lock us up behind bars for life but can never ever stop the flow of Information. More and more whistle-blowers will appear and I hope the Government are getting a taste of their own medicine! Fear. I am just all the time wandering what will happen to Ed; I wish he could have a real normal life, which is not really possible in Russia. I am so shocked that no other country in Europe at least was not able to offer him the asylum. All these words of freedom, freedom of speech, fraternity.. from all the European governments are just blablabala, void of any sense. I was born in Poland, under the communism and we did not have much choice but to obey the Soviet Union; What's the difference between these times back and today's world, where everybody is scared of the USA and where are the real democracies, Ed Snowden I wish that those who still do not see the courage and sacrifice you've made open their eyes BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE! I think what Edward Snowden has opened our minds and shown the that our lives are always being watched. Without him we wouldn't even be able to get this type of information out to the public. In most societies, although we have laws that provide equality for all, some people have more rights than others. Those who own businesses or are in government are the masters and all of you people are slaves. As Karl Marx argued in the Communist Manifesto, those who control the major means of production or government control all the power. (By the way I am not a communist just a philosopher). All societies are true of this statement even communist ones. There is no perfect utopian society where all members are treated equally unless you happen to be a member of a tribe in the Amazon or Papua New Guinea. You were always slaves regardless of whether you live in a third world country or in the United States. Democracy is just a word. If you work hard, pay your taxes, don't question the policies of government then life will go on normally. However try leading a strike, or going against what is defined as the " national interests" by the few in government and industry and you will lose your rights. This is true even in so called democratic nations like US, Canada, European nations as so called authoritarian states like Russia and China. If we make up the majority in a country - part of the poor, lower middle class, upper middle class , why do we always as a society allow the rich 1% in government and industry to dictate what laws should be, what salaries should be? Why do we allow even as shareholders in a company rich CEOs to misinform us about the true financial status of the organization and award themselves huge bonuses when the company stock has fallen? Media does not help because media are corporations too. Would media companies print dirt on their owners?
