In this talk we will explore the Indian ideas and principles that have formed the basis of the worlds oldest existing religion and examine why it still exists today. For centuries Hindu culture has proven to be very adaptable but can it survive the challenges of modern times. How do Hindus in India negotiate their lives in a multimedia age? Essentially, how cool is Hindu. Among the concepts discussed are secularism and modernity, women and caste, the balance of salvation and sexuality, the role of the family, duty, spirituality, truth, happiness and love.

I come from Catholic lineage of priests etc.dating back several centuries in the north of France and then to America, one of whom was buried in the crypt beneath the church where I was baptized by my own cousin. My practice in Catholic ritual was daily and one would think that it would inform my later life. My life however took a turn, when synchronicity led me to the East and to Hinduism .Ultimately, It's vastness and depth eclipsed anything I had learned from Adamic faith based religion since I am after all a modern person not inclined to take things on faith. Hinduism, especially Shaivism was grounded in science and experience. I resonate deeply and learn from your lectures. Your deep compassion is palpable and I admire your dedication to service greatly. Thank you for being an exemplar of what is good and noble and for raising the bar .

Here is an Irishman offering a new perspective of the promises Hinduism holds out for the new world. He tries to awaken the Hindus', beckoning them to hold out a promise of Hinduism being the solution in the global context. Sees and examines Hindu concepts and compares them with the Christian thought and Aristotle's philosophy. He compares with Voltaire, Locke, Hume and other Western philosophers with Indian approach thus revealing new vistas for its exposition and whips up a thought that it must be taught, debated and treated as an academic subject for theological debate. Interesting. Thanks.

Hinduism is a misnomer, yet universally accepted to be representing Sanathan Dharma. So let me also keep using the word Hindu by which I actually mean Sanathan Dharma. Praying any God/Goddess, following any rituals, following any scripture, following any Messiah doesnt make you a Hindu. You become a Hindu only when you seek. When you believe anything without question then you are not a Hindu. Then you are a religious person. Religion is something that conforming to a set of Beliefs. But Hinduism is not about beliefs but about the entire Cosmos known as Prakruthi and you which is Atman and Dharma which is ones duty

Hinduism although having its roots in India endorses every Hindu and every person of faith or belief to uphold their dharma and it is through this practical approach that we can define our dharma and responsibility to each other and the world. As a Western-Hindu it would have been nice to hear of the Hindu phenomena outside India. The main question asked of a Hindu is Why Hindus worship many Gods? This simply needs to be addressed as understanding that the many lead to the One and the One leads to the many. The inter-transference of One-Many & Many-One is the whole concept of Hindu Dharma as I understand it. But one more point. Hindus also understand that every one journeys through history at their own pace, abilities and awareness. It is because of this that we cannot rush towards rapid change when people have not acclimatized to existing change. We have to take everybody on board this ship and wait for the oldest, slowest and weakest one's too so that no one is abandoned. Faith is not to blame-It is ignorance of our own understanding of life and our lack of reasoning towards the key tenets of faith that makes us go wrong. We cannot blame the other as we all share the burden of ignorance but this does not mean that we can't aspire to be better people and give hope-practical hope that is easily accessible to all. The very essence of Hinduism is that we can do so. Thank you for your talk.

Hinduism or Hindu Thinking does not challenge any faith. The Hindu-Christian Traditions are one way forward to responding to issues of spiritual gridlock and this response can be achieved through interfaith understanding & peace. The Trinity of Knowledge that I uphold emanates from the teachings of Swami Vivekananda-Jesus-Sri Ramakrishna.

@@neilmukherjee238 Hinduism does not challenge other religions because these religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam etc.) are all covered in one-way or other within Sanatan Dharma. However, due to the denigration of idol-worship by Islamists and that of Hindu practices/rituals by Christians for the last few centuries, there is awakening among Hindus now (21st century) to challenge the 'weaknesses' within these Abrahamic religions basically to protect the Hindu faith.

Excellent temperament. India has held a pretty decent record of being secular and should strive to do so. There are fringe elements in every society and everyone needs to be alert on the exploitation of those fringe elements for personal or political gain.

An in-depth study & research with clear mind is visible in this lecture, which is giving words to express fluently & the requisite confidence to answer any question & counter any argument by putting the things in right perspective, which is the essence of Sanaatan Vedic-Dharm! The most important aspect is the suggestion to invest in education & need to come at world stage. He has shaken us to the reality that, we need more & more Vivekanand-swaamis to enlighten the human-race !!! Thanks for being so true to self !

Hinduism is not one book. Oldest are Vedas. The philosophy of vedas comes from upanishads predate Bhagwat Gita. Gita compiles from all upanishads and adds it’s bit as well. In fact it has many verses same as upanishads especially Katha upanishad. Not to say that upanishads only form basis. Sankhya have contributed. Gita and vedantins take a lot from Sankhya Tantra / Shaiva Shakti philosophy has its style. It is parallel to Gita. It is not so simple my friend

It's okay because, it's written that one day the society will collapse and whatever peace there is in this world wil be lost and same goes for hindus as well. It's sad but it's happening according to the scriptures.

Everything makes sense except the point where he says that you have to be in Harvard/Oxford to be taken seriously - I would argue that we must create such centers in India (given how it is politically impossible for an actual Hindu to challenge the Freudian view of the West in their universities. I would be naive to think that Harvard and Oxford are free from the vagaries of politics!).

India is a poor nation and thousands of people are struggling for existence. For them economical freedom is much more important than religious freedom. We must look them from different angle.
