Elizabeth, in 2007 I bought 4 new tires for my truck and paid an additional 149 dollars for lifetime alignment. I still have that same vehicle. Since 2007, I've had 33 front end alignments done on my truck and I paid not a dime extra. So before you go to bed tonight, go to Firestone and purchase lifetime alignment for your vehicle to save yourself a boatload of money.

Elizabeth, I just found your channel and have enjoyed the 2 videos I have watched so far. I love that you are just starting this journey because I will be starting my soon. I have been working on outfitting my 2018 Honda CR-V for living and my dog Millie and I will be testing it out this coming weekend when we travel from NY to IN for a friends eclipse party, then for 10 days at the end of April for a self-reliance workshop in TN and finally for a 3 week long road trip to TX to visit my nephew mid-May. I hope to have the kinks worked out by then as I will hit the road permanently once my house sells. It is going on the market in June. I look forward to seeing how your adventure unfolds, as a fellow female solo traveler!

You made a good deal on that Forester -- the new redesigned one is being launched now, so between the inventory you saw and the upcoming redesign, you had terrific timing for a deal. Your choice is terrific, excited for you. Plus, good arrangement & point on moving the items on the driver side (the passenger side should be as clear as possible so you can see over the shoulder when backing up and changing lanes. ^Pierre

Congratulations! If it’s brand new, you’ll have to outgas it. Keep the windows open aand get a bunch of small baking soda containers. Not good to be breathing in all those toxins while you’re sleeping. The baking soda will help. I just did it myself. Took a couple weeks and no more new car smell. Pretty color!

Nice rig! I think you’ll be quite pleased with a roof top box. I’ve got a 2024 Outback Wilderness and plan on lots of car camping. What kind of portable battery did you go with? I went with the Thule EvoWing cross bars - I think they’re 52” in length. Also have two Thule XT Sport boxes along with a Yakima awning. It definitely helps out with storage. The WeatherTech rain guards work great for me as well at the set of shades. I did a ceramic tint to bring down air temp inside and provide a stealth effect. We got the same cooler but I keep mine behind the passenger seat on the floor. I took out rear seat headrests- just eat up space! Do you use a caribeaner to place in the rear hatch lock when gate is open for extended periods of time? I heard it drains the battery
@elizabethoffgrid
@elizabethoffgrid 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing about your setup! Yes I have heard about using something to stop the hatch for eating up battery -- will use that if I ever try out a hatchback-tent setup. I have three batteries -- one from a sponsor (vtoman) and two from ecoflow.

I've driven an Outback for most of my adult life (and I'm 52). I'm on #3, just bought a 2024 a few months ago. I was super sad to let my last one go, but was in the same situation as you with investing a bunch of money in when it was really just kinda time. I like the height of the Forester, but I like the overall weightiness and solidness of the Outback in comparison. Just so you know though, she won't let you down. I have been stuck enough that I couldn't get myself out exactly once, and that was in a snow storm last year that left over 36 inches on us. Spent a winter in Fargo ND and when all the other nurses were spending the night at the hospital for the blizzard, I went home. They are just reliable, solid cars. You'll get used to the stoplight thing! Only thing I really hate about it is when your wheel is a little turn and it YOINKS over when it turns off. Also, I am FINE with buying a new car. Don't care what people say about all the "loses value driving off the lot" blah blah. Chances are excellent when you buy a used car that there is a REASON it was traded off and the dealership may or may not have either found OR fixed the reason. I'll take that 7 year bumper to bumper warranty, thanks.

Congrats on adding the Forrester. I’m a big person with the a long torso so I didn’t like how the Outback fit for driving or seeing out the windows. The Forester was much more comfortable for driving, which my spouse purchased & sometimes lets me drive it on trips. PS: I’ll be interested to see how the WeatherTech window covers work for you.m

I am curious why a person with the means to buy a brand new car wouldn’t chose something a bit roomier since it is a dwelling as well as a vehicle. I lived in a small SUV (since that is what I already had) for a year just for the adventure. Now I’m looking for a full size van for occasional travel, since I now have the freedom to chose my vehicle.

I admire your resolution and entrepreneurship, but I'm concerned about your health and energy levels in the mid/long term, you are putting yourself through a lot (a lot of work, decisions, change, little support, etc..). I've seen that you want to save, but maybe renting a room in a nice but economical location or flatting with friends or family would be lighter on you. Or at least give you breaks once in a while. In any case, good luck & take care.
