I'm 63. Retired, early last year. I'll be heading out in my Jeep Renegade September 1. Indiana to Wyoming. I've been ready for a year, just too scared to take the plunge. Wish me luck. 😊

Don't be scared. Once you find good places to park at night, everything will fall into place for you. I usually park at night at travel plazas, at Walmart, and at upper-scale hotels at night. Wyoming is a great place in the summertime. I have parked overnight in my vehicle in Cheyenne, Laramie, Rock Springs, Casper and at various truck stops in between.

@@susieturk1 You're welcome Susie. You might be pleased to know I'm currently parked near a lake at Warren AFB three miles west of Cheyenne. I'll be spending the night in Laramie and Rock Springs Monday and Tuesday nights before heading north to Grand Teton National Park. I'm excited about the trip.

I think that's a good idea to remember to budget for two or three nights in a motel maybe once a month. It takes time to get organized.

It's really nice to have a break, and sleep in a bed, and have all the necessities. Have you ever considered going to travel centers where you can shower, but it costs unless you buy gas for your vehicle. It does get humid in a vehicle.
@elizabethoffgrid

I have not tried that out yet -- probably could try that when I am on my big trip coming up soon (about a month)
@lewisvogel466
@lewisvogel466 10 ай бұрын
Two good ways to save on shower costs while traveling: 1) Obtain a black card membership for 25 dollars a month from Planet Fitness which will enable you to shower at any one of 800 locations nationwide. 2) Consider community centers and recreation centers. Most small towns have these, and most have a gymnasium with locker rooms and showers. I've seen the fees for day use as low as two dollars and as high as eight dollars - much cheaper than the 14 dollars at a truck stop.

@@elizabethoffgrid From what I understand, most state parks in New Mexico have hot showers. If you will be staying at the state parks, I'm pretty sure your park pass will enable you to take hot showers there without paying extra. You should look into that.

How often do you get migraines? I take med every day to prevent my migraines. For last 37 years. Also, does any foods trigger your migraines? Yes, processed food is easy when you're camping, but not good for you on continuing basis. Or for your head. Fruit so refreshing, esp. cold. Early morning for me isn't good, so fruit in yogurt is my standby. I love Cheerios w/vanilla almond milk with fruit in AM and by itself at night. Tuna in those pkgs. w/crackers is another standby for protein. Cheese and fruit and specialty crackers great (dinner is my smallest meal usually). Cheese and tomato /w onion if you like, sandwich also good cold meal. Maybe with chips. Just some cold options.

Up until last month it was just every couple months but now it’s a lot. I have never found any food trigger - mine are more hormones and stress and environmental factors

I love the creature comforts too much to live in a car, but I watch because I think everyone should know how to do it. You never know when you may have to flee in your car. I’d have to have a portal potty for night time. I wouldn’t want to be going to planet fitness in the middle of the night. I think I’ll cut the reflective window shades. Sounds like your doing pretty well though.
