tbh I am from Hawaii local raised and part hawaiian Honestly while there may be days where its pretty its not always pretty the thing with us it that we are way more different then the other states in some ways, unlike where you lived we have been taught all these things and have been tight from experiences, we were exposed to different perspectives of other cultures im sure the other states as well but mostly asian influences adn how that also applies to some of the hawaiians as well (basically what I mean is that in the plantation days because of that we all had food fusions that were created and how they all had one goal putting differences asides and how the rules like resecting one another taking care of the land sometimes applies to other cutures you know) and tbh looking at the U.S you guys may have asian influence but not as much as it influenced hawaii and the other islands honestly because of the different cultures as well that come here to america every year we are exposed to new things and we learn about them or have already learned about it idk but yeah we are like you guys its just were more "different in ways" plus its more about the family here we are family based though

As a local born, I've noticed that alot of people seems completely oblivious to the fact that Hawaii is actually one giant military base. The bases take up more area than you think, explains why traffic and over crowding is a big issue here

Nikki Deleon lol the last few tsunamis are always around 3 feet high and not often at all. But the major con that is a huge one amongst my friends is that the humidity is unbearable, it's like when you open an oven, and it's humid day and night from July to mid November, and not much pretty open land that you can run on, only mountains. I legit get excited when I travel see lots of land 😆

For me, the cons overwhelm the pros. I was born in Hawaii, but left. One of the cons that you didn't mention is job opportunities and this was the deal breaker for me. I don't think that there are many in the technical field who will move to Hawaii, except when they retire or want a vacation home.
@jjxmahal

I totally understand where you are coming from. I am nearly almost done with college and I dont know what Hawaii has to offer when it comes to my field. I'll most likely live somewhere else for a while but, you know, Hawaii is always my home so I'll come back eventually.

You are at the point in life where I was 65 years ago. The Hawaii I remember is gone and resides only in my memory. I live in Central Texas where I am happy except for the weather, but with air conditioning, it is not a big deal. FYI, I have poi in the freezer and canned red salmon and tiny oil sardines in the pantry.

I moved here 10 years ago because of the job opportunities and now own my own business, met my beautiful Filipino wife, and this is and always will be home for me. Job opportunities are going to be an issue anywhere you go, it comes down to how bad do you really want something? If you want it bad enough, you will make it happen. Trust me, nobody believed in me and all said I wouldn't make it here and would be moving back home, I've been to the lowest of the lows, I've met my beautiful wife and own a business, I guess my point is, if I made it than anybody can. You just have to want it. Much love and aloha.

My family absolutely loves Oahu ! My wife and I 1st came for our honeymoon, courtesy of my sister and her husband's generosity, they live in Kailua, we fell in love with Hawaii almost as soon as we walked off the plane. Living our entire lives on the mainland we instantly saw the diffrence in not only the beautiful landscape but the culture there, as you said in the video everyone is so friendly and nice there, and a family atmosphere for sure ! After a few visits and bringing our 2 sons there for their 1st time last year ( they also immediately fell in love with Hawaii too) we have decided along with some prodding from my sister to move to Oahu permanently and raise our children there, I agree that it's the best place to grow up, the atmosphere is just so much better, the people are so much friendlier and kinder there and we want our kids to enjoy that lifestyle. Thank you for posting this video as you are absolutely spot on with your points👍 the traffic on the H1 does suck 🤣🤣🤣 but thats not enough to deter us from living in paradise 😍

Some con's missing: 1) Homelessness is rampant, 2) Govt. is one party monopoly, largely corrupt, and controlled by unions, lowest voter turnout in nation due to frustration that nothing changes. 3) Police Chief, City Prosecutor, and Corporate Counsel are/have been investigated by the Feds...no City or State accountability along with high taxes and fees. 4) Brain drain, Hawaii has a net migration out of state due to high cost of living and poor paying jobs. In general the public school and University system are below average. Hawaii has the most private school students per capita in the nation. 5) Tsunami's were mentioned, but Jonalyne forgot to mention hurricanes which have become much more prevalent and stronger as of late. Also way less trade wind days replaced with super humid (high dew point) weather. 6) Lastly, crime has gotten much worse in recent years, the police and criminal justice system cannot handle. In short great place to vacation, but different if you live there. Spent fifty years there now retired on the mainland (sun belt).

My dad was Army and I lived in Honolulu for a few years. You’re 100% right on all the pros and cons, but it is WORTH IT. It’s expensive, but at least it’s not an expensive hellhole like Los Angeles is turning into. It’s isolating in terms of location, but you’re not alone due to the friendly people. I still keep in touch with our old neighbors who would give fruit from their backyard to me and my sister. Whenever I go to Honolulu, they insist on me staying with them and they treat me like a daughter. And I’m gonna say that I’ve never felt afraid for my safety in Hawaii, and I’ve never had to deal with racial discrimination there. Living in NC after my dad got transferred was so jarring in that respect. I’ve been followed in the store because people assumed I was a criminal. I wouldn’t be nervous about interacting with cops in HI.

Do your research and know what you’re getting into before you just up and leave your life on the mainland. Funny. We have the same in Europe, The Netherlands. But it's an alarm for air-attacks, a relic of world war 2.

Hahaha the electricity used to go out all the time in 68 and 69 and this was on Portlock Road. Lots of rain, we got out the kerosene lamps a lot. And, the shipping strike in the early 70s, ugh. "SugarTwin" anyone?

I'm from Sydney but my dad is Hawaiian so I've been there a couple times visiting my family and it's definetly such an amazing place! It's also great to surf in Hawaii, specifically Waikiki beach or canoes (I hope I spelled it right) , and I love the weather there! Australian weather is great too but I literally die in winter 😬 I just think that I would get bored to always be at the same spot, for example this year we made a road trip from Sydney to Melbourne visiting some other relatives and then we went to Alice Springs and it was a great experience to get to see so much of Australia since it's a huge and beautiful country, and as you said in Hawaii you can't make road trips cause you would just get to see the same thing everytime, you always need to take a plane to go to the mainland for a road trip, so I think for now I'd rather stay in Australia and visit Hawaii for vacation! love it there though

I lived on Oahu 97-2001 (Schofield Barracks). I lived in mililani. I will say it’s super expensive, even then. I bought all my groceries on post, pumped gas on the various bases, which saved me a lot of money. I experienced very little to no discrimination, and embraced my role as a “Haole.” The traffic up on H1 going into Honolulu/Waikiki was pretty aweful in the morning, but I rarely made that trip (Military right). Parking up at the big 3 in north shore was always god aweful, but the surfing was worth it! I do miss manapua with the red pork. I do miss the beach. I’ve considered moving back, but not sure if my income would be enough there now. The good thing is that I’m young and retired, so I would have to find work.

Ive seen on zillow studio condos and 1 bedroom condos going for $50-85,000 in oahu. is that true? Does Hawaii make you pay for wind and flood insurance? is that mandatory or no?
