I’ve driven through Maryville many times over the years coming up Hwy 411 from Georgia on my way to Pigeon Forge. I’ve always liked Maryville and East Tennessee as a whole and I really don’t see the cons as negatives. Considering all factors, I think the Maryville area would be a nice place to retire.

As a transplant to Maryville from Utah added Cons for me is lack of sidewalks, the ugly power lines and infrastructure not keeping up with growth. Pros are it's a conservative Republican area, the mountains, schools, cost of living is lower.

We'll be moving to TN this summer after my military retirement, Maryville is in the top 5 places we're looking, thanks for the video.

@@TheKnoxFox Thank you! It's been a long road, and we're excited for what's to come. In no particular order: Farragut, Maryville, Bearden, Hixson, Soddy Daisy. We have very specific search criteria and these 5 fit the bill the best...there's a couple other secondary areas as well.

The cons would also be people flocking to Maryville like lost kittens. For example from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Lincoln High School.

When I was a kid, we called The Tail of the Dragon, Vomit Highway. It was made to make little kids sick, but turns out the hairpin turns are awesome for motorbike riding

Lol Been to TN Twice now both times stayed out in Knoxville. Second time made it out to Morristown and Greeneville. And also made it out to Gatlinburg and passé thru Cosby TN I want to move that way and escape Cali

I just saw somebody leaving a comment on another post called relocate to Tennessee about having a house built there in Maryville. I am looking at Tennessee as an option to move to from Arizona after retirement in 10 years just cuz of the low taxes and they don't have a bunch of BS fees like outrageous vehicle registration fees. What are those new houses running if they are in a subdivision? And also are there any HOA BS fees? I hate HOAs

Weirdest things about this area are: Very few quality home builders in East TN, and most places won't allow you to have a fenced in backyard. If you hate having a fence or hate looking at them, this is the place for you. Never mind your neighborhood may be next to a falling down barn, chicken house, junk yard, or 30 year old trailers...but you can't have a fence. Nope! That fence may be ugly. 😂

@@tennesseedogpack If you are not in a subdivision and not managed under an HOA you can do what you want. You will see a lot of neighborhoods with shrubbery or trees dividing lots for privacy, but no fence. The home listing will never tell you the bylaws of the HOA, but if you see a neighborhood and no one has a fence, they are probably not allowed. I ran into this problem several times while looking at real estate to purchase in Maryville and Townsend. Most homes in Townsend are not in a neighborhood, but the one I wanted was. You could fence in around your patio, but not your yard. The neighborhood I lived in, in Colorado, everyone could have a fence, except the one street I lived on. I've seen some crazy HOA rules. I've moved around a lot and the first thing I noticed in east TN was the lack of fencing in neighborhoods.

@@michelb.8953 Townsend homes are way out of date! If I end up there I will have to build if I can find a builder to build what I want and pay the high price or wears valley, It's not easy picking a place, I would only move to Maryville if I can get a country peaceful setting and not seeing neighbors next to me. I have one good shot to pick where I want to build and it's not easy as I don't want to regret it as it's going to cost a bit but I don't mind providing I'm happy with the location.

I will ask you the same question I asked the lady on the other video about moving to Maryville. Can you tell us where the local shooting ranges are there in Merry-ville? A lot of us Second Amendment enthusiasts would like to know that if we move over there so we can know where we can safely go do our firearms training. Hopefully there's an open public outdoor shooting range there.

My hubby has to go all the way to Oakridge TN. They have a beautiful shooting range / club. There are many events and a bunch of ranges for different kinds of shooting.

Marabel, Marvel, Medieval, Marital, Marijuana1 These are a collection of the way the subtitles mispelled the word MARYVILLE. I'm thankful the hosts did not pronounce Maryville the way it is actually called by the natives, and that is : MURVELL, because the translation bot would have called it quits. Murvell : Sounds like Marvel, and the letter U sounds like the one in Fun.

Ok well first of all yall ain’t even pronouncing it the correct way nobody pronounces it as “mar-ee-ville….. it’s “Mur-vullle”…. Second of all the pros and cons yall listed are completely irrelevant for people from Blount county tn… who cares about the airport. Most people from Blount county have no reason to expand their travels. BlackBerry farms is overrated. Also while I’m at it throw out there the fact we have greenways available for nuts and berries eating folks yet they continue choosing to ride bikes on main roads (such as Wildwood, Sevierville road for examples) just KEEP IT OUT OF MY COUNTY!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you understand that it's for people who are looking for information about the area who don't already live here. "Most people from Blount county have no reason to expand their travels." Really?? People who live in Blount County don't travel?? Didn't realize it was your county.... May want to tell the other 140,000 people who live there.
