Today I share our experience picking a neighborhood to live in when we moved to Puerto Rico. I talk about the amenities each area offers and go over our impressions of Palmas del Mar, Condado, Isla Verde, Ocean Park, Old San Juan, Paseo del Caribe, Miramar, Santurce, Dorado, Aibonito and Rincon.
I talk about why we ended up in Dorado and where I would move next if I went back to the island to live full-time. I also give some advice on whether to rent or to buy a home when you move to Puerto Rico.

Just a suggestion: You should cut in b-roll footage of the places you're talking about (e.g. Dorado beach, neighboorhood footage, etc.) so people get a visual sense of what you're talking about. If you've never been to PR its hard to picture what "messy" means.

Jack Clarke, that was after Maria. If you trully want to see what Puerto Rico is TODAY recovered, after Maria, check here on KZfaq, "LIFE TRANS PLANET". Watch their videos. They are from Colorado, and stuck it out after Maria. They have many videos of the hundreds of places that Puerto Rico has to offer, and l million Puerto Ricans left the Island after Maria. Things are totally different TODAY in Puerto Rico.

I remember Palmas when it first started in the early 1980ties. Very nice now but a bit like a golden cage and very far away from San Juan. I live in Isla Verde close to the El San Juan since 1985 when the airport was really noisy. Now its much better. Dorado is great and also very upscale. Have not been there for may years. You are absolutely correct: rent first for a year, learn this beautiful island and then finally buy. Just suscribed to your channel due to your very detailed video about buying real estate in PR. Good luck on your journey and realisation.

Great video! I'm in town and your insight was super helpful. I spent the day visiting Dorado, Condado and Isla Verde. I hadn't heard of Miramar so I decided to pop over and I'm having a cocktail on the rooftop of Eter now, thanks to you! Lovely neighborhood indeed! What made you sale?

@@dorkladytravels Thanks and hopefully others will encourage you to cover the west coast. We have been to PR several times and like the island a lot. People are friendly and many places to see there. PR seems to also have a lot of business opportunity, (and especially with the Act 20 and Act 22 incentives).

Excellent review. The best part of Isla Verde, is Isla Verde beach, where the resorts are at. You avoid the traffic of Condado and are at walking distance of everything you need: grocery stores, restaurants, drug stores, and walking distance to night life, and you can taxi/uber to Condado and Old San Juan. Close to the Mall of San Juan and Plaza las Amaricas vía the Dos Hermanos bridge. Basically you avoid the congestion of San Juan. Easy in and out. The best part you have 3 miles of uninterrupted beach. The beach is the best beach in the metro area. Down side only a few single homes... this area is mostly apartments/condos. Yes, the airport is near, but you get used to the noise, and you can put sound reducing windows.

I'm thinking about relocating to puerto rico and living in Palmas del mar. I work from home so a good internet connection and power is essential at all times . Are most of the homes and Condos in Palmas equipment with generators ? Also could tell what areas have the best internet connections and the least amount power outages. Love the videos thanks for sharing your experiences.

Hi Diane, I hope this message reaches you. My wife and I are thinking about moving to Puerto Rico even if only for a year or two. I've been going through your videos to learn more about your process of getting there but can't seem to find one. If there is one, which is it? If not, I am curious as to how you went about moving your things to PR: things like furniture and such, as well as your car. Also very interested in any lessons learned you can share. Thanks and have a great day!

You should not advertise this places if they don't pay you for that. You content is ok but if you don't live a high end lifestyle simply why you waste your time. I was born and raised in the island but became wealthy in the states. After 30 yrs I will returned back home but I will spend my investment on properties located in Guaynabo and Vega Alta. Listen to Diane and rent first. The COVID pandemic has created a real estate bubble there and bubbles are always followed by crashes. All the people who buy and find out what Puerto Rico is really like will be selling next year. Come for the beautiful geography but you’ll leave because of the crazy/lazy way people do and don’t do things.

I think when non Puerto Rican’s move to Puerto Rico with good intentions, it could be a beautiful thing. Do you desire to become friends with Puerto Rican’s from all classes showing them love and compassion? Do you want to genuinely hear the Puerto Rican people and become part of their community outside of the exclusive parts for the high class? Or do you want to create a colony within the colony where only High class and mostly white people live? Why only promote private schools? Why would you not want your children to assimilate into a public school? I know you don’t have children. I mean some of your audience. Why not help the island you are moving into including their public schools? Even the poorer parts of Puerto Rico has its beautiful parts. You left one of the gated communities and called the common islanders of that part of the town “messy.” It sounds like if Puerto Rico was a place with all high class homes and mostly white peoples you would feel much more comfortable and less disgusted and irritated with the loud music and traffic. I love it when kind hearted , understanding, altruistic non Puerto Rican’s invest in the island. I would love to see people from all races from the states come to truly get to know the Puerto Rican’s and enrich all the communities not the colonies within the colony. Puerto Rican’s don’t want Anglo Americans to do what you did to Hawaii on our Island. If you find all aspects of our culture beautiful and genuinely want to connect, welcome . But we don’t want more gentrification or criticizing of the poor parts of the island

So conservation needs to be on the list for sure. Glad you are doing that. thanks for the videos anyways I am planning a trip for December.
