Mint lemonade:
1 gallon water and ice
2 c. Sugar
4 Lemons
1 orange
Juice fruit and add to water and sugar. Stir to dissolve and add 4-5 sprigs of mint or meadow tea. Let sit for 6-24 hours before serving.
Chicken Cordon Bleu:
4 large boneless, skinless, chicken breasts halved
4-8 thin slices of ham
4-8 thing slices of swiss cheese
Italian flavored bread crumbs
¼ c. (half a stick) Butter
2 eggs, beaten
Garlic powder to taste.
After slicing chicken breasts in half, cover with plastic wrap or a plastic bag and pound until thin. Soften butter and mix with garlic powder. Spread each chicken piece on one side with garlic butter. Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on each breast and roll together. Dip each rolled breast in egg and then in bread crumbs. Bake at 350° for 30-45 minutes or until cooked through and meat is tender.
Play Dough
½ c. salt
1 c. flour
1 c. water
1 tbsp. oil
2 tsp. cream of tartar
Food coloring
Add everything to a kettle and cook on medium high heat, stirring constantly until it forms a ball, about 3 minutes. Need food coloring in while still warm until dough is smooth. Store in a plastic bag to use over and over.
Glorified Rice Dessert:
2 c. cooked rice
2 c. peaches, diced in small chunks
1 c. whipped cream ( I make mine with maples syrup, powdered sugar, and a pinch of salt)
3 c. mini marshmallows
½ c. sugar
Combine cooked rice, peach chunks, marshmallows, and sugar.
Let stand for 1 hour.
Whip cream and fold into mixture before serving. (I used more.)
The best texture ever!!! We say it’s like munching on ice cream and Styrofoam 😊

i was born in ‘86, so my entire childhood was the 90’s. looking back now, i SO desperately wish my children could have a childhood like i had… from little to no screens to playing outside until the street lights came on, walking to school & friend’s houses without a care in the world, the BEST cartoons ever, making mixed tapes & CD’s, NO SOCIAL MEDIA, not being tied to electronics. i feel like we are the last generation to truly live. things really went downhill & kept going after 2005-2010.

Your kids can still have that kind of childhood. You, as the parent, can choose not to let them have tablets and stuff. We had TVs in the 90’s and computers in the 90’s, so it isn’t fair to say we had no screens. 😉 My son turns 5 next month and he is very much a kid who plays outside all the time and likes playing board games and looking at books. Not every kid alive in 2024 is glued to tablets all day.

Hello, fellow ‘86 baby! 😊 We did grow up during a great time! I try my best to blend the best parts of my childhood with the best parts of the current day for my children. They are blessedly innocent and sheltered due to the choices we’ve made for them and I hope they look back on their childhood with fondness.

@@sayhello5377 yes we had tvs and computers but it was differnt. You did not have endless things that you liked to watch on TV. You had to wait an entire week to watch a new episode of something. Day time TV was soap operas, game shows or talk shows.

I was turning 8 years old in the 90s. What I remember most that could be relevant to homemaking and family is: - kids were allowed to be bored. A LOT. It made us creative and we made up tons of games, skits, songs, etc - there wasn’t a huge focus on making the home asthetically pleasing. Often times wall calendars were the most interesting piece of “art” 😅

I was a young mom in the 90's. I did listen to the radio while doing chores (mostly Christian programs, a throw-back from what my mom did when I was a kid). For socialization (since we didn't have texting, etc.), I would either have friends with kids come over, or I would load up the kids and go to a friend's house for the day. I made a lot of casseroles (my mother-in-law taught me that). Thanks for taking me back and reminding me of those memories. I always enjoy your channel!

I was a 90’s Mom. I miss it. Our days were much more simple. When I fed my babies I used to stare at them and pray to remember this moment in time. How small they were. How they smelled as a baby. How they looked and sounded. I didn’t watch anything or look at anything other than them. I enjoyed this video very much. Thank you.

I was a new mother (37 years old) in the 90s. I read a whole set of books while I nursed my baby. Many times, we both fell asleep. I not only remember the 90s. I remember the 60s! My mother was so creative-making little play cupboards out of cardboard boxes and "diaper bags" out of cereal boxes. She sewed all of our clothing, including underwear and nightwear. She would order fabric samples in the mail and it was so exciting to choose fabric for new dresses from those samples. We played with "nothing" and were so happy and secure. My mother ordered groceries- probably once a week- that were delivered to our door. Also the fresh fruit truck stopped by weekly; the McNess salesman came regularly That's how Mom survived with seven children to care for.

So glad to be a 90's girl! I would like to be able to take my kids back to those days to experience what it was like for me growing up. Families were closer knit, groceries were cheaper, and people just seemed happier without all the negative influence of social media that they are exposed to today. It was easier to make "real life" friends as well. The 90's will always hold a special place in my heart!

90's kid/adult here. I graduated HS in '92, got my first apartment (rent was $250 for a 2 bedroom), my first car was a Ford Escort. Hair was big (LOL). I worked at a bank (from Sophmore year until I started college) and brought home $500 every 2 weeks (thought that was a lot) and worked at Subway PT to have a little bit of spending money to hang out with friends. The lake and the rodeo was our summer hang out. Movies were so much better (but not as good as the ones in the 80's), music was so good back then. Fun times! So long ago, great memories were made in the 90's. ❤

I was born at the beginning of 1989❤ I remember my parents playing records still, but they had some tapes... then my dad got a car phone with a loooong antenna, haha 😅 that you had to pull out before you answered... we didn't get a cell phone of any kind until I was 16 years old. We just had the cord (and cordless) house phones until then... We used to ride bikes all over our neighborhood for hours (rollerblading, too), and never felt a bit of worry! We'd even stop at different neighbor's house and chat on their porches😊 Knee socks were in, and hair ribbons. My mom curled all 4 of us girls' hair into those long curls 🥰 I remember getting burnt, lol. Our little red tricycle was completely metal (we lived in PA then!), and we had one of those metal/hard plastic bouncing/rocking horses that were on long springs! ... and yes, definitely ALWAYS had the radio on 😊 to Rush Limbaugh, and I remember back when This Is The Book-shelf was airing stories like "All Things Including Frisky", "Where The River Begins", and then we always listened Ranger Bill on Saturdays 😊 Phone books, magazines like Country Living ❤ My mom read through a Manners book for devotions and had us practice manners during meals along with learning how to set the table properly. LOVED this video, Megan!! 🩷🤎🩵 Brought back SO many good memories!!

Also, lots of fans blowing around the home since air-conditioning wasn't as common! Gas was $1.46 the year I was born in PA. Stamps were 25 cents. McDonald's ice cream cones were 50 cents where we lived!

I loved this video! That was my life! Children in 1988, 1990, and 1993……..raised actively in our church, stay-at-home mom (after 7 years in college), home in the country very much like yours (I loved it and we did MANY renovations and additions ourselves), had a large garden and berries, canned/froze everything!!, took pride in my landscaping and flower beds (with NO posts), sewed all holiday outfits for 3 kids, played with and read to my kids constantly, and cooked everything from scratch. Really really good days……with no cell phones or internet……..most time at home with just me and my kids. We pinched pennies, I clipped coupons, had garage sales…….managed to pay all bills and take our kids on a 10-day vacation somewhere around the country every year. So many wonderful memories…….with a bazillion pictures printed out at CVS😂…….and I wouldn’t change one single thing, except to start over and do it all over again!!!! What a blessing!! Megan I so appreciate what you do, and I also appreciate the lovely reminder to prepare Chicken Cordon Bleu!! We had it this evening and it was just SO GOOD!!!

This was so nostalgic to watch. I had my first baby in 96 and my 2nd in 2000. Chicken cordon bleu was my go to recipe for company. I always served it with parmesan noodles, green beans with mushrooms, and a lemon cheescake with gingersnap crust and raspberry sauce for dessert. I talked on a cordless phone to friends for hours while I cleaned, cooked or did things around the house. I didn't even have a cell phone until 2005 and those phones held a charge forever. I think I charged once a week! We made homemade playdough too! There was no pinterest so we often found those recipes in cookbooks or in kids activity books we checked out from the library. The kids played outside and we had lots of "playdates" with their friends. For big home projects or garden projects my friends and I would often take turns at each others houses. We would work on one garden one day and another's the next. Same for painting! My favorite cookbooks were church cookbooks because everyone contributed their absolute best recipes (well maybe their second best- there was always that one recipe people wouldn't share or would omit their secret ingredient!) because no one wanted to have theirs be a flop! When we moved in to a new house I wanted to meet our neighbors so walked around with flyers I printed off (I felt real fancy) inviting everyone over for a dessert party in our yard. I asked them all to bring a dessert and copies of the recipe to share. I made a pink lemonade pie. It was such a fun memory and created some beautiful friendships. We were all at different ages and stages but none of that mattered. Proximity made us close and it was a beautiful thing. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I was also born in ‘92 and I loved everything about this video. Your description of your favorite outfit took me right back to my curled bangs and favorite velvet Christmas dresses with white tights and a giant bow. 😅 I’m thankful to know what this era felt like because although I can’t recreate it for my kids, I can do my best to instill the values that come from a slower pace of life!

I love that you cherish the 90's and all your childhood memories. I actually graduated from High School in 1991 and eventually was a mother of two throughout the late 90"s. Those were good times and simpler because we really didn't know what other people were doing unless we called them on the home phone or talked to them in person. Love your videos and how you inspire me to love being a homemaker.

I love the idea of using an older cookbook! I have one from the antique store, and it was printed in 1981. They have colored and black and white photos of their recipes, it is so neat! Thank you for sharing your 90's ideas, I love it ❤

Back in the 90's we were living on the family farm. We had a cow/calf herd. We were homeschooling our four children. Life was not unbusy! I remember when he bought a "bag phone". He'd be riding a horse, moving cattle, with the bag phone slung over his shoulder. It could be charged in the car, or at home. When in the car, he'd stick then magnetic aerial on top of the car. It was so nice to be able to contact him when he'd been gone longer than expected, or he could call to let us know what was going on. Cell phones sure have made life easier these days!,

Wow, as a young mother in 1990’s, I would try to do my kitchen work when I could listen to Focus On the Family and later allow my sons to watch Adventures in Odyssey. Oh, the adventures we went on: no money vacations were visiting the small town post office, the local court house and even a Dean’s dairy where we watched them use a quarter size of plastic to make a gallon milk jug and put the same cottage cheese in Deans containers and then switch to Meijer containers. Every report card, holiday, etc was a new Berenstein Bear book. thanks for memory lane. Smiles Grins, Giggles and Laughs!!!!!

Born in 86 here! My friends and I often talk about our idyllic 90s childhood. My fondest memories are: Block parties Building forts Playing in the woods Playing Sonic the Hedgehog (yes, a video game!) Walking down the street to my best friends house Sleep overs Dancing in the rain Doing a snow dance 😂 and hoping for no school the next day Having a family computer only that sat in the living room AOL AIM Blockbuster Using a TV Guide Looking at our local newspaper for the current movie times (or calling or just showing up and picking a movie) Our wall phone in the kitchen (can't convince my husband to get a landline😅) Running to the phone so you didn't miss a call Listening to voice-mail messages on the machine Playing outside until dark (and sometimes after dark) Catching fireflies Rising my bike to our town center (several miles) Playing in the sprinkler & pool days Listening to the radio My walkman and boom box Mixed tapes I could keep going! I know every generation looks back and wishes for the good old days (makes me nervous for the current generation when they look back and miss these days!), but the 90s were really the best days!

I loved the 90s! The big bangs with lots of Hairspray! Banana clips, charm bracelets, jelly shoes, smelly stickers! Loved it all! We also live in ohio and went to lots of tractor pulls! But loved playing outside for lots of hours! If it was raining we loved playing office & board games! There were 5 of us kids so we kept busy! ❤

Growing up we ate a lot of processed foods and gradually my mom made more from scratch as we got older. However we always ate dinner as a family. I also had a newspaper route in 6th grade (1996). That definitely doesn’t exist anymore. The magazine thing is so real. I remember spending hours looking through the Spiegel catalog.

We had a corded phone through most of the 90’s because my dad refused to get a cordless phone because he knew it would never be where it was supposed to be when he needed it. 😂 And he would get the shortest cord he could find so we had to stand right where the phone was. 😂❤ My parents did eventually have a cordless phone but my dad still has never owned a cell phone. And I honestly really admire that about my dad….he doesn’t ever feel pressured to do anything just because "it’s what people do."💜

I really enjoyed this vlog, thank you. It felt kind of nostalgic actually! Life sure felt a lot simpler in the 90s. I used to just go outside and play with my neighbors, all unsupervised 😅 and come home when it was dinner time. Collecting stickers and buying bubble gum was a big thing in my life at that time 😂 It was nice to have dinner on the table and then my mom would give me bath, I’d watch one cartoon episode on TV and then down to bed! We had very limited cassette tapes of cartoons so I’d watch the same ones over and over again and never got tired of it. Nowadays there are too many options for kids.

That playdoh is a core memory for me! My mama was a schoolteacher and that dough was all we ever had! I never had store-bought dough until I bought it for my own children. We even used that homemade doh at church and church school. I think everyone was making it in the 90s!
