A real head turner of a watch. Purchased this time piece for my 50th a year ago. Z colour makes it. Quality !

The Milgauss is one the best watches Rolex makes. Beautifully contoured case, green crystal. Each person that says they dont like it is instantly taken back the moment they see one in the wild. I have a # of Rolex and prefer my Milgauss GV over all of my sports Rolex. More engineering has gone into a Milgauss than anything in sports range. An absolute stunner and joy to wear!

I bought the black dial GV in May after a lot of soul searching for my first Rolex having first thought the blue dial a bit flashy, but over time I have warmed to the blue dial and appreciate how special it is and been thinking of changing mine

Yes the blue Yacht-master is a lovely thing, I was tempted too, at the time I was on the waiting list for the Daytona, so I had to resist temptation. At the price, its probably a better buy on the grey market or used, as they tend to depreciate a bit more than the other sports Rolexes. Still want one though!

Congratulations, still love my Z-Blue... wearing today in the sunshine. One thing I like about most Rolex models is that the cases are relatively slim, unlike many these day.. ie Omega, which is helpful when your left handed andwear the watch on the left wrist. There's a constant risk of scratching it when reaching for stuff.

Thanks for your reviews,. on your other review that compares your Rolex collection you mention the new Air King 2016 model . I bought this last week and have to say it's as you said a Milgauss specced watch for less money . Personally I thought the dial etc was to busy and designed by committee but when I saw it in person it is much better than the pics the mix of fonts and the lettering does not distract you from the beautiful design of the face itself . I think it is a big departure from what could be considered "classic Rolex " but I remember thinking exactly that when I first saw the Milgauss years ago and look how loved that model is these days , I think the Air King 2016 will definately win people over and be a future classic as it is that distinctive , perhaps you should consider it as your next Rolex ! and at £4150 currently I think it is a very decent buy at that price ...if £4k for a watch is ever a decent buy ! lol . Cheers, I've only seen the new Air king behind glass at a Rolex AD evening event, I was surprised how much better it looked irl, compared to the photos on the internet. If both the Z Blue and the new AK had been available when I bought the Z Blue, it wouldn't have been an easy choice to make. Particularly considering the large price difference. That said, I do love the Blue dail/green crystal of the Milgauss. In Rolex terms the AK is certainly good value that's for sure. And you got yours before the expected price increase too :)

@austin rosin Ok, the update, I no longer have the YM, I fell out of love. I traded it for a Daytona black dial steel 2010 model along with an Omega SeaMaster I had. It was a truly good trade, better watch the Daytona, and the value has doubled since I traded it in 2017.

As long as the crown is screwed down, yes you can swim with it on. Some say you shouldn't wear a mechanical watch for things like golf, as the shock imparted to the watch when you hit the ball could damage it. I've never known it happen, by brother wears a Explorer 1 and plays golf several times a week, he's never had a problem. As for Tennis, If you wear your watch on the left hand, but serve right handed, shouldn't think there would be any issue. Then again, I wouldn't, just in case I fell awkwardly and scratched the watch, but its up to you.

Its not that I don't like it, more its so different it takes some getting used to, particularly when its a new watch. Now I've owned the Z Blue a while, I hardly notice the funky seconds hand, now it just adds character to the watch.

Such a beautiful dial, it's very much an optimistic summery piece to put a smile on your face. Daring bold colour scheme from the conservative brand, if they ever pull this model from production the prices will double overnight. And that dial goes from crazy neon blue to black when catching the light in different angles. Good that they kept the bold sticks at the cardinals otherwise they'd dominate the dial. A date aperture and cyclops would have killed the symmetry that works so well. And the funky green crystal really pops. What's not to like? (Polished vulnerable bezel and centre links perhaps, but this ain't no shrinking violet). Watch.

Short term the Hulk is certainly a better buy new, which makes the Milgauss an option used. But I have a hunch that in the long term, the much rarer Z-Blue will make a decent investment. The new 40mm Airking is very similar to the Milgauss, its even got the same antimagnetic shield around the movement. All for £4100, that's £1400 less than my Milgauss. I have heard a rumour that the Milguass models days are numbered. If that's the case, then I can definitely see prices rising soon after. Which ever one you go for, they're are both great watches.

Bevel Head I have to agree with you mate. If the Milgauss gets the chop in the next couple of years your particular model will sky rocket IMHO. I've never seen one in person but it looks absolutely stunning.

A few years on (2021) and ZBlue Milgauss watches are impossible to buy directly from ADs, I used to see them in the windows rarely about 2 years ago now nothing. Going for 8-9K online, and will rocket higher when the model is either revamped with the latest movement or discontinued. A sound investment, it’s Rolex Steel after all. If you still have this for £5.5K hang on to it. Just goes to show you can buy a Rolex wear and enjoy it then sell in 5-10 years later and even see a return on investment. Not many watches can do that, you normally just about write off the cost.

It was the perfect watch....if it wasn't so thick and top-heavy. I owned and loved it but it keep rolling on my wrist so I sold it. If they ever combined the Z blue elements but on a DJ, it would be insane.

Yes I have, they are very similar in the hand, weight, size, movement etc. I didn't like the air king's various fonts .. looks very confusing. Though if you like the dial the AK is cheaper than the Milgauss.

Was in my local Rolex stockist today. I tried on the milgaus and was blown away with how beautiful it was. Any truth in the rumour that this model will be discontinued? Also did your authorised dealer give you any discount on the watch? Keep up the good work! Great video!

No chance of a discount on a SS sports Rolex from an AD here in the UK, and I did try! A couple of models from the Milgauss range have been dropped recently. Only Rolex know all of the will be discontinued. The new Airking is a very similar spec watch but much cheaper, so I can see why people may think the Milgauss days are numbered. For myself, I think it'll continue for a few more years at least. Rolex have already invested in making its unique features, cant cost much more to make than an Airking. Either way, if its is dropped soon, that's good news for me, as no doubt s/h prices will rocket lol..

I've just purchased this watch. My first Rolex, just wanted to ask when would you recommend the first service. I've heard anything from 5-10 yrs.

If you wear it daily, then I'd say every ten years, unless its time keeping becomes poor or erratic, in which case its a sign a service is due. I wear mine in rotation with others, so I expect it will be ok for at least ten years.

Nice honest review! Do you still have this in your collection? I’m getting twitchy waiting for an 114060 no date sub, but my local AD has a z blue in stock. Wonder if the rumors are true and that the Milgauss will be discontinued soon?

Yes still got it, and wearing it today. The Milgauss range has been reduced, jut two models now I think. Given the new Air King is very similar, but much cheaper, its been said the Milgauss may be discontinued soon. Didn't happen this year, but who knows. Its not a big seller for Rolex, and its unusual styling puts off a lot of potential buyers. Probably why I like it lol... BUT whenever it is discontinued these factors could mean its value could rise in the future. Either way, I think the Z Blue dial is one of the best Rolex have ever made.

Tough call! I have a Date Sub too, I know the no date Sub has a cleaner look, but to me its not as useful in daily use as the Date version. Of course the Z Blue also doesn't have a date, so the No Date Sub and the Z Blue are closer in terms of practicality. I think the Z Blue is more individual, and not as well known as the Sub so it doesn't scream Rolex! if that matters to you. Though it wont appreciate like a Sub (At least for now), so if you buy the Z Blue and then later decide to swap it for a Sub, then you'll probably lose more money than if you did the swap the other way around. Me, I'd go for the Z Blue.

Thanks for the review! I've been recently looking for my first Rolex, and have tried on all the Milgauss models. I did like the black a lot, but the blue definitely wins out in the end... Was considering getting an Explorer2 40mm, which is a great style and a great price, but I think I'll just save up more and go for the blue milgauss!

The blue dial looks different depending on the light and angle you see it from, goes from a sky blue to a dark blue. One more reason I like it.

It took me a month to decide between the Z Blue model vs the Black GV. I decided on the black gv because I thought it would be more versatile and the green crystal really pops on the black dial. Blue definitely gets the attention though. I would not have bought a Rolex if it wasn't for this watch....Submariner?...No thanks.

The black GV is no doubt more versatile, in being a little less 'out there' compared to the Z Blue. But I do like the blue dial of the Z Blue and having a few watches, I think having one or two that are a bit different isn't an issue. Perhaps if I only had one watch, I wouldn't have chosen the Z Blue, I don't know really. Either way, both are great watches.

Yes I tried one when they were first released, along with the blue version. Came close to buying the latter, but didn't like the way the hour markers were designed, with only some lumed. A small point, which has now been addressed in the recently released black and white dialled 39mm OPs. I hope they make the same change to the other dial colour options.

Don't buy a watch for resale value, is what I would suggest. :-) That being stated, the Hulk in real life (in my opinion) is way more beautiful than it looks in pictures. It's very comfortable, and the fact it doesn't have polished centre links, like the Milgauss makes it a better daily wearer in the sense watches won't show as much (if that bugs you).

How much is service cost?

Assuming no damage then a standard RSC service in the UK is around £450 every ten years or so. But given I don't wear any of my watches every day, I expect mine wont need servicing for longer than that. The good news is that when it comes back from service it really does look as good as new.

This vid was filmed with a cheap camera, (all I had) I got as close as I could while staying in focus. I now have a DSLR which can focus much closer with an appropriate lens.

@@guitarjem2670 Yes they do look good. I ws considering the blue dialled YM when I bought the Milgauss as I preferred it. A quick search shows the Milgauss weighs 157 grams, while the RG YM on a rubber strap is 154 grams. so very similar

Aqua terra 15000 gauss all the way. Way better than the Milgauss. That's not to say I don't like the Milgauss, I love the Milgauss and will own one one day. I have the new Airking and love that watch.

In terms of anti magnetism the Omega is no doubt better, but then again I didn't buy the Milgauss for that reason alone, its AM isn't high on those reasons. I suspect I'm not the only buyer who thinks the same. It could be argued the Milgauss use of an inner iron faraday cage is outdated now, as even Rolex now use anti magnetic hair springs etc. I bought it for the way it looks and its heritage, as I started my career in the Electrical generation industry my years ago.

If you're left handed then why not wear the watch on your right wrist? Using the crown whilst on your wrist isn't advisable anyway so it doesn't matter the crown is on the right side on your right wrist.

Life would be boring if we all liked the same thing. Blue is 'in fashion' now for sure, but I wouldn't say any Rolex is a fashion watch.

Possibly lol At the time I got this, I didnt like the DJ2, seemed too bloated with too fat hour markers. Happily the recent DJ41 has solved those issues, and if I was buying today it would be tough to chose between the Z Blue and a blue dialled DJ41..

I love my Milgauss! Oh yeah, get a fake for a fraction of the price with identical appearance and customer enjoyment.

I've seen a gen Milgauss at an authorized Rolex dealer in San Francisco, and it did not look any better than mine! And people are going to spend the extra money for a gen why? I own mine to make myself happy, and not to impress other people. They don't know it when I wear my rep, and they don't care!

If you don't want to impress others, why wear a fake Rolex? Why not plenty of other watches which look similar from a distance, but are not fake?Also your fake is worthless, while a genuine Rolex will always retain value, oftentimes it will e worth more than you paid in time.

I love wearing my fake Milgauss because I love the lightning bolt second hand. I love the lume. I would not enjoy a genuine Milgauss any more than a fake at 25X the price. I also wear pricey genuine quartz pieces because I'm not a snob who only wants mechanical watches.
