My Rottie is a big goofball 95% of the time. He knows what his job is, which is to protect me and most importantly, my son. He's well socialized, but I'm in awe of his judge of character. There have been a few people be would not let near. They're a lot of work but the rewards from putting the work in are immeasurable

Same here .. my Rottweiler is such a goofball but so trustworthy as well ... love him to death ❤ it's true , it was a lot of work to make him as he is now, but what I get back from him is priceless

At one time I had an adult Rottweiler and a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy. One day I was walking the BMD puppy alone down a country road when all of a sudden 2 large Dobermans came running straight for us. It was so fast I didn't have time to even pick up the puppy but then something amazing happened. The puppy stood his ground and as the Dobies circled us, the puppy kept pace and stayed between me and the 2 snarling snapping dogs. The owner came running out and was able to wrangle them away with apologies. I don't know what would have happened with my Rottweiler, but my appreciation for my little BMD puppy jumped 10-fold in a moment I will never forget. Love your videos. Thank you!

NEVER pick your dog up in that situation. Its stops him protecting himself and it stops you protecting him and you. I have rottweilers - who do NOT attack - and it drives me nuts when people lift a dog.
@StaRwaka
@StaRwaka 10 ай бұрын
@@tileux Yes, I have since heard that can provoke a bad outcome. But at that time it was my first instinct and retelling it brought back the same, like picking up a child you feel is threatened. Thanks for the reminder.

@@StaRwaka No worries. I see people doing that all the time. I have rottweilers - who are superbly trained and do not react to other dogs - so it happens a lot when Im out walking or at the beach. Its very dangerous.

My dog is ALOT to handle, but hes an amazing animal, just as you described it would be. He's my best friend and we train everyday. Thank you again for these informational videos. @cheapsmokes1 Hahah..yeah..you come onto my property and scrounge around my belongings, or livestock, or try attack me, you will find quick, how an Australian Shepherd can protect. A working bred Australian Shepherd can do anything that a German Sheperd can do. And they may be smaller but they are full of fight, when they need too. And they will fight to the dead. And I have 4 of them, that would be on you, right quick. Even one Australian Shepherd can make a bear run, up a tree. If you have Australian Shepherd, when you go camping, you will have no problems, from theiving bears. And how about a bunch of rank bulls or cows, you will find out, that an Australian Shepherd, can teach those animals, some respect, right quick, and then will take them any place you want. And to top all of that, Australian Shepherds are extremely smart and easy to train. Only takes 1 or 2 times, for them to learn anything. They practical train themselves. They never run away from home. They protect the children. An extremely loyal dog. And beautiful to boot.

While I love her and she is wonderful with our kids and family, I have found owning a Caucasian Shepherd more annoying than anything really. I do appreciate the zero tolerance for strangers. At night specifically, she’s inside so if she’s barking then something is afoot. You could toss her a ribeye and if she doesn’t know you she’s still alerting/going after you. That said usually she spends her days barking aggressively at nothing of concern and if a repairman. Ones over she has to be secured thus providing no real safety to my wife and kids.

Poodles can act defensively. Just less likely. A rural friend has a home invasion during the middle of the day, happened super fast through a back sliding door (he was in and on the wife in seconds). wife was home alone and the guy pinned her down. Their poodle barked a bunch and eventually bit the guy. He fled the home (was never caught), without that dog who knows what would have happened to her (she's tiny).
