Hi there, I'm taking Tecfidera. I was exposed and had Covid in December. I'm a part-time secretary at a Church that has a Preschool. I'm lucky enough to have taken both vaccines. The last one was Wednesday. My reaction to the first was headache, extreme fatigue and sore arm. The second was tender arm and fever 99.9 lasted 18 hours. Much better today. I'm glad I did it. Oh I Live in Iowa.

I’m not on anything at the moment and I qualify in our state under certain health conditions. I live in a multigenerational household and 4 of us are considered high risk so I’ll get it as soon as I can get an appointment. My mother-in-law is getting it today, the first in our house. I admit I’m nervous about getting it but I’m more nervous about getting the virus. It was great to see a video from you!

Thanks for the update Lauren you look well. I think your decision to wait is a smart one and I'm following the same path. I don't know when I will get vaccinated but I imagine sometime by the end of summer? I've read enough to feel confident and safe that even with MS I'll be fine getting any of the vaccines developed for covid and getting vaccinated sounds a lot smarter than not. Take care, stay healthy and I'll see you in your next video.

Hi Lauren, my wife and I are receiving our 2nd shot tomorrow. I hope the supply in Michigan improves like it has done in Ohio, so that younger people like yourself can be vaccinated. I just lost a friend with MS who was only 57, which is still too young to receive the vaccine. But it would have made a difference to him, his wife, and two daughters. You're right, get it as soon as it is available. -Joe

Hi Joe! I'm so glad you and your wife are getting your second shot tomorrow! Can you please keep me posted on how you both feel after receiving the 2nd shot? I'm so sorry you lost a friend. I've also lost a friend, and a family member did get Covid, but she's better now. I hope things in Michigan get better soon!! I wish you both the very best!!

I've gotten both shots, so I'm fully vaccinated. I'm a first responder so I became eligible last month. Initially I wasn't going to get the shot and honestly if the vaccine was a live virus I probably wouldn't have been as eager. Since it is a RNA (protein) based vaccine I was ok with the decision to get vaccinated. I had multiple conversations with with my neuro both about the nature of the shot (I got the Moderna) and how it would affect my MS. My side effects from the second shot were pretty tough, mostly achiness and shortness of breath. I felt like my bones were on fire and I could barely finish a sentence without gulping for air. The worst was the day after the shot, with the symptoms lingering for 3 days afterwards. My fatigue (which is already a big part of my life) seemed to be aggravated for the entire time, but again it was only for a few days. I also had an elevated temperature. I don't call it a fever because normal body temp is 98.6. My normal temp is usually 97.2 (who knows why) but for the entire time I had side effects it was 98.6. For me even 1/2 a degree of a higher temp makes my MS symptoms go crazy (balance issues, fatigue, cogfog) so that was also uncomfortable. Ultimately the whole experience made me wonder if people with MS deal with the side effects for more than the 24 hours that they tell you to be ready for. Ironically, simultaneously, I had to make a decision about changing MS meds. I had been taking Tecfidera for years, but when the generic came out my insurance wouldn't approve the name brand and the copay for the generic was really high. My neuro has been trying to get me on Ocrevus for a long time, so I finally took the plunge and decided to switch. I had to time my first infusion for two weeks after my second vaccine shot which ends up being March 8th. I think that it is so important for people to get vaccinated, but as someone with MS I understand the reluctance which is why I wanted to give a little detail about my experience for anyone reading. I am glad that I got shot, and I would tell anyone just be mindful of how the normal course of your MS may (or honestly may not) be impacted by the side effects.
@Pangloss983 жыл бұрын
heartfelt thanks for taking the time to describe this. I think MSers are wondering how it will go since reactions to meds, viruses, //anything// are always such a wild card. the body seems to be so sensitive.

Hey! Thank you SO MUCH for explaining what happened to you! I was told from a medical professional that symptoms like you described could happen after the 2nd shot, but I was wondering how it would affect someone with MS. I truly appreciate your description! I hope you are feeling well now!!!

My neurologist gave me the same timing for the vaccine. I have my next ocrevus on march 2 so I missed the timing window, and will be waiting for another almost six months so that it can work the best it can for we depleted b cell people. I too can stay home and just wait it out. Hope you stay safe!

Hi Lauren. Good to see you again. :) I'm in Ohio and on Gilenya but I'm like you, I'm in no rush to get the vaccine. Cleveland Clinic has an online notification thing called 'mychart' where you can see all of your upcoming appointments; blood work test results; and send a message to your neurologist if needed. It will send me a message when it's my turn. Take Care! ~Joe~

Hey Lauren, I had my first dose August 20th, 2021. I had my second vaccine September 10th, 2021. I reeeeeally did not want to get the vaccine lol. I ended up getting it because my Mom kept begging me too and secondly because the risks of not getting it...outweighed the unsubstantiated "rewards". I'm not sure if you got vaccinated by now. After my first dose of Phizer I had no IMMEDIATE side effects. I did develop a body rash like 9-10 days later. It spread on my trunk, arms, lower extremities lol...I was terrified. It went away no problem though. I didn't even take an antihistamine or anything. I got an EpiPen prescribed before I got my second dose as a precaution...I never needed it. I got a positive rapid test last Wednesday. I actually thought maybe I had a rare hangover, but when I got a headache I went n got tested. I got a lab test Thursday, positive Covid last Friday. I now reeeeeally think the Vaccine stopped me from getting too sick. Great seeing you! God Bless whatever you decide :-)

Hey!! I got the Pfizer vaccine and didn't have any side effects. Yeah, my doctor convinced me to get it because he said the risks of not getting it were dangerous.
