It's not a bad thing to live at home as long as you are making a long term plan for your own future.

I was able to save for 2 years living at home. Luckily my mum didn’t make me pay bills except contributing to gas, food and electricity here and there. I got on the property ladder this year at 24. If you are at home save as much as you can

Tbh most or any unskilled job in the uk, will pay starting 20k, 25k which is fine when you are with your parents in your 20s, you can save 1k per month easily, as you should have no bills during this time, your main purchase should be a car, you don't want to finance a car either during this time, aim for 5,000 on a reliable car. 1,000 x 12 = 12,000 x 10years = 120,000k when you hit 30 years old. Your savings will also so grow in the ISA account, which you get the interest on every month, about £450 free aswell as your monthly wage.

Right. It's not to say that it'll be super easy, but for a significant number of young folks, it's doable.
@thegrowl2210

Get a driving licence, but hold off on a car unless absolutely necessary. Absolute money sinks. A licence is a one time investment that after a year can allow you to rent cars if required, and open up new jobs. A car, especially as a young person has insurance, likely at least 2k, fuel which costs hundreds over the years, and maintenance, a couple hundred assuming nothing major needs replacing.

Personal development? Remember many of us grew up in immigrant home namely from Africa, where parents don't believe in any of those things, they don't even believe in mental health, education is the core and the root and the focus at the expense of all else!

You're an adult now, time for you to take responsibility even if it means trying to teach them. African parents grew up differently from us that's a fact but as an adult, the responsibility is on you now.
@IntrovertMaxxing
@IntrovertMaxxing Ай бұрын
@noraasonganyi8043 straight f00lishness. It is not the responsibility of the child to teach the parent. Once we grow up, we teach our OWN kids, not grown people who are locked in their ways. This is why we are behind in life... taking on burden that we weren't supposed to take

@@IntrovertMaxxing Sir. As an adult, you are responsible for your mental, emotional, spiritual and financial health. You can decide to keep blaming your parents. Or you can grow up. It's up to you.

The fact that you think it is foolishness to help your own parents evolve says alot about your relationship with them and honestly, I can't fault you for that because I do not know you. But if you refuse to help yourself by developing personally and growing, and you want to keep blaming your upbringing , I don't see what it is you are going to teach your own children.

The KZfaq suggestions did work. My old man didn’t allow us to have a car whilst at home. People hearing that were confused but he was right in terms of it being a money pit. I got my house and car together when I moved out.

Amazing video! I'm 23, I do live at home ( very blessed and appreciative ) I have noticed peers and friends in a very similar situation as myself, Squandering this position of privilege, How do you give people around you a nudge in the right direction financially without coming across ignorant? Love the talking points and outlook, Thank you.

Very happy to hear that. And as to your question, it's not easy at all. As you say, people will generally roll their eyes and just find you annoying if you keep going on about it. So probably the best thing to do is to lead by example, put good principles into practice so your peers will see it in action. Eventually some of them will start to change their perspective, and you'll be there to encourage them. Also, share these videos with them :-)

The reality of modern living has put many of these milestones you speak about out of reach for many people. There is a huge lack of upward mobility in the UK. It's great if people can live happily and peacefully with their parents to save, but I would say that's a minority esp of bp. There is an expectation that you financially contribute, a regression to teenhood where there is a parent vs child struggle and a stunting of growth for most people. I have seen more people flourish via leaving home than those who stay. Staying in the nest can also put a huge financial burden on parents making the family less well off as a result, not to mention the mental tension on everyone involved. I'd agree that you can stay at home if life is set up like that for you,but that isn't the reality for the majority esp not in black family homes where there is a v definite hierarchy and a what-i-say-goes stance from parents.
@elywananda
@elywananda 2 ай бұрын
Oh totally. All of this is only relevant if the home is a healthy place to be. And in a lot of cases it's the exact opposite. And actually, that's one of the fundamental issues underlying these topics - family dysfunction. It means that young people have to go out and try and do it all on their own. They're trying to compete with people who have received lots of family support and guidance.

@elywananda
@elywananda 2 ай бұрын
@@IntrovertMaxxing Exactly. I hope that by covering all these sorts of topics, it'll start becoming evident that the central issues we need to deal with are our family dynamics. I feel like we don't think about what we do enough, we just do it on auto pilot, living out all the trauma and toxicity that we've had programmed into us.
