I remember a couple years ago I was on a bus that was completely filled. This man had tourette's and was ticking every 2 seconds but kept apologizing afterwards. It got to a point where I just told him "hey, don't worry about it! You don't have to apologize for something you can't control right? Please don't worry, none of us mind!", a bunch of people around me were like "yeah man, don't apologize. It's all good". His ticks became less frequent once he knew that we accepted him for who he was. It's one of those moments that I would've regretted not standing up for him, I hope he's doing well. ^_^

faitharooo_ Bless! You're such a sweetheart. With Tourettes, there is a lot of anxiety. You're constantly thinking about your situation and trying to find a way to stop them so that you don't disturb the people around you which can make it a lot worse. You helped reassure him which made him feel less anxious about the situation. That's really awesome of you! Coming from a person who also has Tourettes

Living with tourettes is hella difficult, whenever I have a tic attack I feel really bad because I know it makes my mum feel really helpless, she's amazing she always lays with me and sometimes she sings to me. I'm so greatful to have her, my sister dosen't really understand but My mum is trying to get her used to it and help her understand it's out of my control. my dad and brother are also really good with it and so are my friends, I'm so lucky to have such suppoertive people around me, they help me stay strong :)

Seeing things like this really breaks my heart knowing there are people going through things like this, most of the population in the world is abled people who don't have physical challenges so its always weird when a disabled person is in the picture. Being a person who stutters that is a challenge on its own but my stutter is nothing compared to this random involuntarily tics that people get I mean everyone wants to live a normal life. No one would ever make themselves disabled if they had the chance to create theirselves so this thing is something people can't help. Lets remember that not everybody sees life the way we do and things are a lot worse for other people but we won't just know because we're not in their shoes please more awareness should be called into things like this so people with this issues and others can easily blend in and be accepted for how they are. Disabled people should not be viewed as weird or be put in a situation where they feel less of theirselves everyone deserves to be loved so let love lead.

I never heard of this but I'm glad I did now. In the small town my mom lived in there was this well known and loved lady that suddenly screamed or shaked her head. My family, specifically my grandmother, was quite close to this lady. No one minded it and some were really used to it. I remembered seeing her walking down the street when she suddenly screamed, only me and other kid jumped/got startled. Now that I think back to it it's really heart warming how (at least the whole neighborhood) didn't mind.

I don't have Tourette's, but I would never judge someone based on their disability (don't know if it's okay to call it that; if not, please correct me). I've once met a guy that was friends with one of my friends, and he had Tourette's and was a really cool and funny person. After the first few tics, you get used to it and they kind of 'blend in' with who the person is. Nevertheless, I hope these guys (and everyone else with Tourette's) will continue to live and love their lives, and be proud of who they are :)

I remember watching Ally McBeal in 90s and Anne Heche played a woman with TS. First I thought it is funny because it was in Ally McBeal but than there was a turn because she was looking for love and that was really difficult. But she created that character so realistic... funny but also heavy. So thanks to Ally McBealI know about TS for years and have so much respect for people wit it because it can be really hard.

I’m glad I never had a lot of outburt vocal tics but I definitely had a lot of vocal tics I would battle when I was in solitude. It was scary I felt like a freak. Didn’t realize that TS was a thing and that it was okay to be different. I have extreme trouble controlling my facial tics sometimes still. It makes me sad that some people laugh at it first. It hurts genuinely. It feels like if you try to fight it your head is going to explode. You can’t stop it once your brain gets hooked on a tic at least for my TS. It’s classified as Mild but it goes to moderate with stress I’d say I can be kinda self destructive by mistake even from my tics if I’m stressed out.

Doctors in Montreal Quebec diagnosed my son with either Gilles Tourette's or Asperger's syndrome when he was 9 years old, they couldn't make up their minds which one he had but put him on all sorts of pills, like 8 pills a day. All he had was a tick to touch his face. We left Quebec when he turned 16 and slowly stopped all the pills, his ticks went away and he has finished high school and college and is happily employed. Quebec system sucks.
