From the outside, Maplecroft Mansion may look like your average Queen Anne Victorian home-a remembrance of historic architecture from centuries long ago. However, that beautiful exterior belies the dark history that took place within.

Both sisters wore black during the trial, there are photos & a court artists rendition of her in black at the time. Both sisters lived there together until 1905 when they had an argument about something, then Emma moved out, they apparently never saw each other again, curiously, they died within ten days of each other, Lizzie, 9 years younger, died first of pneumonia, not long after having her gall bladder removed.

Lizzie was most likely of English descent as many people from Fall River of her era were. The majority of houses in that area are made of wood. Wood was plentiful and cheap. It lends itself well to the environment. We do insulate the walls. The foundation is usually stone buried deep enough to create a cellar. If you came to the area from England you'd probably see loads of familiar designs. Not to mention the names of families and cities and towns. There's many homes in the area from the early-mid 1800's. During the Industrial Revolution loads of people came from England to Fall River to work in the textile mills.
