LLVlog #1: I Just Bought A Mail Truck (1994 Grumman LLV)

3 жыл бұрынWhy am I buying a mail truck? I don't know, but it's cool as can be. I was so excited I completely forgot to film most of the hours long bus trip down to get it. I also setup the timelapse on the gopro wrong and missed most the return trip. Oh well. Welcome to my channel, there is much more to come as I fix up and restore this LLV :)

I absolutely use mine for such, it's perfect for it. More often than not someone stops to make a comment or ask questions as I load it up with groceries. I love the smiles it brings to absolute strangers 👍

If Grumman's intention was to produce a vehicle that resembled the relics built behind the iron curtain of eastern Europe during the cold war era, they definitely succeeded.

I have a 1994 Grumman LLV. I take it to the beach. I've even taken it to Canada. Put about 90K on it since 2015. I named her Candy.

As a mail carrier, I think the Grumman LLV is not the most luxurious, but it is fun to drive! Small, yet nimble with plenty of storage space. I'm keeping an eye out for one to go on sale. No luck....yet

Nice find especially a 2 seat version with out the mail tray and some extra read exterior lighting does this have ac or are those just heater vents

The seat is definitely a nice addition, I can always buy the mail tray but tracking down the seatbase is much more difficult. Lighting has already been sold off, wasn't sure how legal it would have been to use them let alone it barely fits in taller parking garages as is. None of the LLVs ever came with air conditioning, just a heater

You hit the rear vents from the inside and it will open and when you want to close it just push them closed from the outside

Congratulations i’ve wanted one for years , they have been getting increasingly harder to find in any decent shape i too like the locking opened Doors as that Unique Feature alone is Cool it’s weird because talking with Postmen that drove them you get lots of mixed Emotionsvand different Opinions fromLove to Hate one of them told me they were too Noisy and too Slow i laughed like the the guy really thought the Government should buy him something a little more Luxorius to deliver the Mail ? i always liked the look and thought they would make a coolmCamper conversion the S 10 platform is very Versatile for accepting other Drivetrains i saw one guy put a VW Deisel motor in his and Chevy built a S10 years ago with a Isuzu 4 cylinder Deisel that got incredible fuelMileage it wasn’t fast but. very reliable and inexpensive to maintain

The difference is , I I have to use mine to deliver mail, in freezing cold or extreme heat, ice,snow or whatever. Yes it is not maintained as well as they should be, but its the government that controls that not the carriers. But believe me I would much prefer driving these than my own car. Just wish they maintained them better. The one I drive was built in 1988.

I just got very lucky finding this one, it came from an government auctions website. It was owned by the state for a local water district. I believe they were using it to check water meters and whatnot

I drive one of these everyday to deliver mail and it's not fun. I am really amazed that lot of people are interested in wanting to own an LLV...Wow really !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I drive mine everyday just for fun but I kinda get the love/hate relationship with them. I definitely bought mine knowing exactly what I was getting into and it's not disappointed me so far

@@PostalDog94 thats not terrible considering yours is in not too too bad of a shape. i would hope to get two and keep one as a parts. they are just very unique vehicles but very well used

You'd be surprised how much of it is still available parts wise, either from GM's parts catalog or from the distributors who've been keeping stock for USPS for decades now. They still have stock of aftermarket accessories even such as a rubber cargo mat (highly recommended) and various other conversion kits

@@PostalDog94 oh that's good to know. it makes sense they got parts available since these are still greatly used.do you know if they would still have body panels and hoods and all, i feel they would be harder cause every llv i see on road has patches and dings

I think these trucks have been in use for about 30 years. Are you using yours as a personal vehicle? How high was the mileage?

First ones came out in 1987 so yeah that'd be correct. I use mine mostly for dumb things like craigslist purchaes and getting groceries. She's got about 157k on her iirc

They pop up on govdeals from time to time, I think there's one currently listed. Check under S10 as they're titled/registered as such. They tend to also get posted to the Facebook group as well when they do pop up 😁

Btw i live in east northport ny and grumman was in Bethpage before being bought by Northrop and believe it or not they came back in the 2000s to Bethpage Grumman forgot where they moved to before returning

Does the seat recline back or move back and forth ?

No reclining but it does swivel and can slide back and forth EDIT: passenger side is fixed and doesn't move at all

They are horrible little trucks. Spend 4.5 hours a day in one. Never know when they will just stop working

I've been driving mine daily now for well over a year, it's fantastic. Been problem free, maintenance goes a long way. 10/10 would buy another in a heartbeat
