Again three versions of the song - great! In the beginning - when you invited us on this trip, I was a bit afraid there wouldn't be a lot of live releases. But I see that it is not right - you can see that you got hooked on it, and that's very good, because the live versions are a kind of complement and extension of the first version. Especially in this song it shows. I appreciate the studio version for the instrumental sections - they are clear, powerful, great! Also on live versions, but not that much. The vocals are also impressive, of course, but here you can see the difference - it was only when I saw Tarja and the band live that I was delighted with this track, because the sound met the image. Tarja has taken me completely - you can see she feels this song great - not only sings, great as always, but she does a show - she's a great actress here. Her movements, gestures, the expression of her face - not only can you hear, but also see her commitment, and this makes me, as a listener, also involved, and with me, other viewers present at the concert. Also what you mentioned - Marco and Emppu are in constant motion, not on stage - it gives the impression of chaos, disorientation, maybe even a bit of fear - that fits perfectly with the theme of the song. Floor decided to do it differently - respect for her again, because it would not be a problem for her to do it like Tarja, she can be very expressive. It's very static, at least in the beginning, then it changes, but not so much. But in my opinion, she is doing a very intelligent thing here - what Tarja does with gestures, body movement, Floor decided to do with her voice. Outwardly, she seems calm, but there is anger in her voice, and at times I could even say rage - it gives the impression that if she had met the perpetrators of this misfortune then, their fate would have been miserable. And Marco's performance completes the whole. Very good interpretation, but anyway - the live version with Tarja is the closest to me. Again, a great evening with you and NW - see you in the analysis!

Tarja and Floor are both great in their own way. For this song I prefer Tarja's version because it's more dramatic.

Great reaction and both versions of course are phenomenal. The whole song has very heavy "staccato" -feeling and I think Tarja's singing style suites a bit better. She hits those important notes/beats with a bit better clarity. But both women are absolute wonderful!

Missed today's premiere, its a great song with a sad topic and bone chilling to think those guys said those things to their classmates / faculty.

Already the initial beats of the song sound like shots... very startling - and fitting. I am all set to listen carefully.

Marko’s “Fck me” is either him forgetting lyrics or just simply not wanting to say those lines. Some fans believe this was a stunt they all agreed to do. I don’t have opinion on that matter. I like the line “Feel your pity-wanting pain” and how different it is sang by Tarja and Floor. Tarja sings it like she empathic towards it, while Floor is angered by it. Very interesting and both can be.

Translating what she is saying in finnish to French a whole different kettle of fish. Helsinki, Finland October 2005 when this concert held. End of the tour. Spectacular home coming and they were welcomed back as heroes. Now imagine if Tarja was not exhausted and suffering a cold. Master of their craft.

Both Tarja versions for me. The song just suits her better or maybe i'm so used to hearing her version. The 2018 version sounds a bit less dynamic. I think Floors costume was inspired by the fans insistence that she is like a Valkyrie of Norse mythology. A bit of the super hero thing going on there but i like my rock bands to dress up. Nothing worse than seeing what looks like a bunch of guys from the local pub up on stage.

Tarja semble toujours porter des robes rouge, jaune, blanche ou noire et rouge, noire et jaune, et toujours avec des microphones à couleur accordés.

I just love those brief joks you have when the music starts. It always makes me giggle. Sorry for having such a Schadenfreude at your shocks.... Onto the topic.. It is interesting to see the different live performances here, the newer version is a fair bit darker in the tune, it feels. What struck me as interesting is the right hand of Floor was clenched into almost talons most of the first verse. Very interesting. And I just love that slip-up from Marko on the first response. It is just so natural from he as he realises he missed the spot and has no repose voicing his unpleasance with that. xD I do not subsribe to the assumption he refuses to say those lines, because if so, he would not have said anything or voiced his disdain for them sooner and not at the very last moment before his part was over. Looking forward to l'analyse.

This was maybe the song I anticipated the most when I went to the Wishmaster show in 2000(Montréal). I just went to watch it on Metallwish sitekzfaq.info/get/bejne/jNqHq8mpuL2vZqc.html still cannot find myself. Since my teenage years I have studied American culture from a Québec perspective, on the periphery. It's an important song with a subject that still prevails today. Is it strange to say that for me this is a song i like but not one I enjoy. It is hard to keep the subject contained when I listen to it, I just remember watching the aftermath on the news as a 10 year old. Such a good song, but one that I have to be in good mental place to listen to.

I agree about Floor's costume in this. I believe this one was not custom made for her. Still for me the third version was the one as it had both Marko and Floor and I understood the words she sang. But still Tarja's live version was marvelous too.

This is a song about school shootings. Columbine High School seniors/students Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris murdered 12 students, one teacher, and themselves in an April 20, 1999 shooting in Littleton, Colorado. One of a few songs in the Nightwish catalog with a social commentary. For whom the gun tolls(lyrics) little wink at For Whom the Bell Tolls-Metallica. Big influence on Tuomas. It is also an Ernest Hemingway novel on the civil war in Spain.

Regarding the outfit, that concert was played in a sweltering heat, I suppose that played a part in it. As I understood that costume was a one off and not meant to be worn on stage: According to the designer they ran the risk of that costume being destroyed with all the movement on stage.

Hello again, Guylain! Now, this is one hell of a heavy song. Both instrumentally and lirically. And I'm glad you did three versions because we can see how much they have been polishing their performance. The Buenos Aires version is THE one for me. Even with Marko's 'mishap'. I'm not a big fan of the EOAE version, I don't know if it's the mixing or something else, but sometimes it sounds like Emppu is 'skipping' somethings. On the Decades one he sounds very sharp and on point. Also, I usually miss Jukka's energy and how he hits harder on the drums and this is a song that very much benefits from his style but on this one Kai was spot on, I can't complain about a thing :) As for the vocals I confess that I find Floor's approach much better suited for this one. Like you said, she bites every word. And for a song that uses so much staccato the way she has of 'emotionally grasping' every word adds a lot more meaning. Also, Tarja's enunciation in English is, well, famously not always great... I agree when you say there’s a poise in Tarja's bearing and that’s reflective of her very classical training. It translates in her singing as well and it is perfectly suited for songs like Sleeping Sun. Oh, now that I talked about staccato I have to say that everytime I listen to The Kinslayer I find it very reminiscent of the famous musical theme for Alfred Hitchcock's 'Psycho'. And knowing Tuomas Holopainen's songwriting abilities that’s probably not by coincidence. As for the outfits... well, I have to say I never cared much about that ^^' but if I had to chose I'd say I'm partial to Floor's warrior like costume, it fits better the mood of the song and of a metal concert in general. It may just be me, but the back-and-forth between killer and victim is more obvious in the Marco/Floor version. Their acting kinda sells the whole thing.

Marco is indeed perfect for the male role in the story. The male voice in Tarja's version was more ominous and dark. Marco sounds more ehm how should I say this.... cynical, sarcastic, tempting in an evil way. More theatrical than the first voice. I love it. And btw, I like Floor's outfit. Makes her look like a superhero.

I'm amused you were waiting for Marko's version and then he forgot (some of) his lines. And yes, Kai specifically copied Jukka's version of the older songs.

I always thought Tarja is doing too much of a show of this tragedy, but so is the song a battle of life and death, while Floor is more down to earth, as she is a better interpretatior of the lyrics. Tuomas ways of telling story's of tradegies or anything is out of this world, that is also Creek Mary's Blood a good example too. Hope you have that song on your on your list if you haven't heard it, from End Of An Era concert.

I love this old, true to me, NW. Tarja is the best vocalist for them. Such a power voice. "Wishmaster" album is one of their best. You really must react "Fantasmic" - what a song it is. There you`ll hear mastery of Tarja (her best?), Emppu and Jukka. Guitar-flute solo is pure amazing. The old one songs with Floor sound like poor imitation... Remind me a bit lives with Anette.

Marko has sometimes slipped with his lyrics. In front of the finnish growd he uses the best curseword there is ”Perkele!” when it happens 😁 I did not like this song when I first heard it back in the days, it gave me distressing feeling, knowing the subject even more. But I’ve learned to like it over the years, and Markos vocals in it sold it finally on me.

Because it's so hot (maybe even too hot for you and me too💃 😵😅). Tarja was an engaging Diva and Floor is a powerful and beautiful Wonder woman. We all want a friend like she.

It is risky to comment based on one listening, but I think the live version with Tarja was clearly better than the album version, all in all. Tarja's vocals included. But can she convey the horrible story in all ofmit's awfulness? Anybody know tne number of this song on the setlist in Buenos Aires. Floor was not 100% OK. It was clear especially towards the end of the concert. She was really struggling on Ghost Love Score. She had to ease some notes as if saving her vocal chords for the famous last note, which she nailed. I think Kinslayer was not her best performance vocally, but she is a storyteller and can convey emotions so well.

Columbine was such a sad story all around. Two boys being bullied because they were gay and feeling alone. They saw no way out and shot their teachers and classmates in an angry killing spree. They had easy access to the weapons and ended their lives with hatred towards their bullies and innocent bystanders. This tragedy so could have been prevented with the right help and empathy.

Can't wait for you to get to performances after Floor Jansen became female vocalist. Such amazing live concerts. She brings so many colours of vocalisation. Any concert late 2012 onwards

Bravo Guylain, hai detto tutto: nella prima interpretazione i Nightwish sono un gruppo metal e Tarja è una stupefacente cantante: la sua voce operatica, in combinazione con il ritmo incalzante di Jukka e i riff di Emmpu e Marko fanno di questo brano un pezzo metal originale e coinvolgente, perfetto per un concerto dal vivo. D'altro canto, tuttavia, quasi non ci si accorge della durezza delle parole cantate da Tarja. La sua espressione sorridente e il movimento costante dei ragazzi sul palco secondo me distolgono l'attenzione dal contenuto del testo e dal senso del brano. Senza nulla togliere alla bravura di tutti i musicisti, secondo me la canzone perde un po' di importanza. Al contrario, l'interpretazione di Floor è drammatica e teatrale. Davanti alla sua presenza, statica, imponente e magnetica, ogni parola colpisce come un colpo di pistola e fa percepire la gravità del contenuto. Se non fosse per la parolaccia di Marko, che interrompe bruscamente il "film", ci si potrebbe tranquillamente dimenticare di star ascolntando una canzone metal in concerto live. In questo caso, secondo me, la versione di Floor è di gran lunga più adatta a supportare il contenuto del brano. Per quanto riguarda il costume... beh, è un abito di scena utilizzato per tutto il concerto: è sicuramente molto adatto al carattere "guerriero" di Floor ( a me ricorda Xena Warrior Princess) anche se concordo con te che non c'entra niente con questa canzone. Yes, it is Tarja's best performance in Kinslayer, she has dominated the stage, her gothic outfit, her theatrical movements, her look and the way she aroused the audience, fantastic, perfect. A bit of opera, a bit of metal, a perfect marriage that only Tarja can combine perfectly. Tuomas, Emppu, Jukka and Marco at their best. I have seen the DVD end of an era hundreds of times and today I had the same feeling, enjoyment !!! I did not like the video from Buenos Aires, Floor did not excite me, like the whole show, Floor's stage presence seemed poor, the way she sang it was very rock. I know it's a very demanding song but I don't think it suits her very well, after all it was written for Tarja. Dear Quylain i loved your reaction as always but especially today you was fantastic, studio album and two officials videos. See you soon in analysis, very very interesting i believe.

I'm wondering how the song effects people who saw Columbine happen and those who were born after or were too young.. I prefer the BA live version, the final exchanges between Floor and Marko seem to be more alive, I find Tarja a bit sterile in her approach.
