Spontaneous reaction to the song "Enter Sandman", in three versions (official video by Metalica, the Warning (girls) and the official video of the 30th anniversary) by the Mexican hard rock and metal band "The Warning". These three sisters (17 to 21 yo) are nothing short of being phenomenal. Come and listen to a truly different sound, a unique point of view expressed in the lyrics, and musicianship beyond their respective age. Come with me and discover the 6 songs of their last EP (Mayday). Six songs, six weeks, six videos. In the centre part of the video, there is an analysis of the lyrics and of the song.
The Warning : Alejandra (17 yo), bass guitar and back vocals; Paulina (19 yo) : drums and lead singing; and Daniela (21 yo) : guitars and lead singing.

When I heard Enter Sandaman by Alessia Cara & The Warning for the first time, my amazement was immediate, I wanted to understand what they did, not because I didn't like it, on the contrary, because I liked it, and I listened to it again. I thought what they did was brilliant, the first thing that came to my mind is that this is not a cover, it is a new version, it is a total reconstruction of the song, they gave a new life to the original song without disrespecting it , a version in which they magnified the original concept of a dark lullaby and where The Warning girls had to show their talent to integrate Alessia's style with theirs and pay homage to Metallica. The song moves naturally from the R&B and Pop of Alessia Cara to the Hard Rock of The Warning, ending with an excellent execution of Trash with the original Riff, and manipulating the emotions throughout the song with the changes of time always " in crescendo”. More amazing to know how the process was, the time they had for the realization, the geographical difficulties of each one of those involved in the recording and with the only condition imposed by Metallica, that it not be a copy of the original and that they show their style. One week to make the version after receiving the invitation, producer Matt Squire travels from Washington to Monterrey so that together with The Warning they make the necessary arrangements and recordings, Alessia Cara from Canada recorded her parts, once everything is recorded, it is sent to David Bendeth in New York to do the mixing and ending with the shipment of the final product to the Metallica team. In the history of Rock, great covers and versions have been made, whether due to some arrangements, or the way of interpreting or a total reconstruction of the song, they have stood out over the original, since the artist who performs the version makes it his own. and from my point of view this is one of the best versions, not a cover, at the level of great versions in the history of Rock like: Joe Cocker with "With a Little Help From my Friends", original by The Beatles Jimi Hendrix with Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" Led Zeppelin with "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", original by Annie Briggs Guns N' Roses with Bob Dylan's original "Knocking On Heaven's Door"

For me this was absolutely genius. just brilliant. they keep everyone guessing at the beginning and then hit you in the face with this full sound that's different but has a hint of familiarity to it. then just went you start to settle in, they take it back down. then another build, but this time they layer it by repeating the same lyric not once, not twice, but three times. it starts out sounding reassuring and by the third time, Dany sounds like she is the beast. then at the end when everyone has decided its completely different, they throw the classic riff in. As i said, genius. Guylain, great reaction and great idea to show all 3 videos. I've only been in The Warning Army for a week and a half now, but I will support these women for the rest of my life.

Ale is very elegant, and composed. Her movements are not contrived, but they are measured. Even while seated, she has always been one to sit upright, with her back straight and her hands folded in her lap. She has that retro presence, almost like Grace Kelly, or Audrey Hepburn. That is why your eye is drawn to her. She seems to be in a state of quiet, and calm, even when all around her is chaos.

@@GuylainPrince I think of her as the rock or anchor, despite being the youngest. She always seems calm and unflappable no matter what. She has broken her bass strap twice and kept playing, holding her bass up with her leg until someone could bring a stool for her. At 12, she inadvertently ripped the cable out of her bass, but kept clapping into her mic to do what she could.

One other reactor spent 30 minutes on analysing TW's Enter Sandman (2021). It wasn't boring. Cause he made sense since right out of the gate he said he hates Enter Sandman cause he heard Metallica's & other band covers. But he was impressed with TW's 2021 version. As he stated TW started their version where Metallica ended theirs. And brought it around to where Metallica started their's. That probably explains why the video was creepy. TW version was the dream the boy in the Metallica version had. But of course. Everybody hears things different ways. But there's no denying TW are a fantastic band. And they will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. *Their way.*

@@GuylainPrince I prefer The Warnings newest version to Metallicas original. It has more menace but very subtly. Imagine if Liam Neesom had shouted his warning in Taken instead of saying it. The quality of her timid, yes feline presence is endearing. But to me, as an ex-drummer, Paulina has the first place. If the band is recognized to the level they are, presently, it is largely because of Pau as a Drummer and songwriter. She brings the whole band higher. But they will improve, all of them, and this equilibrium can change many times...

Great reaction/review/breakdown Guylain! I love everything about this. James Hatfield said this song was written to be a lullaby for his son. So The Warning rearranged the original song to have more of a lullaby vibe. Their voices blend really well with Alessia's. Their harmonies are spectacular. Their arrangement of this timeless classic is spectacular. Their video is amazing. Legendary work here. I appreciate all of their HARD WORK! Grammy Award winning artist Alessia Cara is more of a sultry soulful Pop singer/songwriter. She and The Warning share the same international agent who suggested that she collaborate with TW. So with very little time, TW jumped at the opportunity; rearranging the song and recording the music and vocals in less than a week! Here is TW guitarist Dany's live Instagram discussion about some of the details 👇 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z5h4isWQrKrHlIk.html Here, TW talk with Alessia about the Enter Sandman collaboration 👇 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m9qokqt8psXGZ3k.html They are really trending upwards right now. James never said that this was a lullaby for his son, seeing that his son wasn't born yet and would not be born for 8 more years after... The original name of the song was to be "Crib Death" (Metallica give some great insight into making this song on the Howard Stern Show in 2013). It was meant to be a creepy lullaby kind of a horror story. Alessia was originally contacted to record a song for the Blacklist project by Metallica's management team and Chris Smith, the talent agent based out of Canada that The Warning and Alessia share suggested to Alessia that she collaborate with The Warning. The Warning took just over a week to write, arrange and record even having David Bendeth (Producer of Mayday and the six other songs recorded in 2022) mix and edit it for them. Metallica was more than impressed with what Alessia and The Warning had done with the song and reached out to the band to share their praise.

Alessia and TW are featured artists with 21 Entertainment Group in Toronto, Canada. Metallica approached Alessia to do a cover for the Blacklist album, but she is a pop singer and had never done a rock song before. It was Chris Smith of 21 EG who suggested a collaboration between Alessia and TW to do a cover for the Blacklist album and Metallica liked the idea.

I was completely amazed at the way they re-arranged the new version of this. A lot of the Metallica 'purists' hate it, but James and Lars themselves said they wanted the individuality of the artists doing it, not a carbon copy of the original. 'Turn it upside-down, play it backwards, do it the way that reflects YOUR personality!' Metallica actually picked Alessia to do her version and she was already good friends with The Warning girls and thought it would be fitting to fully immerse them in this.😉 8 days later, this is what they came up with. The shooting location (an old burned out textile mill in Monterrey, MX had the perfect vibe for the song, especially as it was shot in black & white). If you hadn't noticed, the tempo and the key are the same as the original, but they 'half-time' some parts to draw it out and make it 'seem' slower than it actually is. The way it was re-arranged and mixed is just sheer genius, and Alessia's ghostly figure projected on the walls brought her right into the middle of it, even though she wasn't able to travel to Monterrey for the shoot. There's a nice video of a Zoom/IG call? between The Warning and Alessia talking about the making of the video, etc., put up by The Warning Army. Check it out if you have a chance! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m9qokqt8psXGZ3k.html Also a good behind the scenes video where they worked with Matt Squire (Alessia's and their international manager) to make it all happen! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f9CHjc-LstTVmmg.html Thanks Guylain, great review!😄👍

The 2014 version was done -- along with a number of others in 2013 and 2014 -- simply so that their relatives could see how they were progressing musically. I believe the first time they played as a band was around the end of 2012, at a school pageant. But they had long since been bitten by the music bug. I'm not sure at what point they had decided that this was really what they wanted to do, but I'm quite sure it was well before Enter Sandman. The response definitely took them by surprise, but they knew that they had to take advantage of the opportunity. Pau discussed it in a promo video they did for Patreon (they're surely one of Patreon's great success stories): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e691ls14v9O1aKs.html They really do all of this because they love music, and they're willing to commit whatever it takes. They have tremendous discipline for people that young.

Being the first song on the album was just a happy coincidence. The songs are on the original order as they appear on the Black Album, and the artists of each song were sorted alphabeticallly. I am told that the "Now I lay me down to sleep" prayer is around 300 years old. As a child, I used to say it before bed every night. Many nights I couldn't get to sleep for fear that someone would come during the night and steal my soul. It was creepy for sure. To my surprise, my own kids came home from Catholic School with a new version that goes "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, watch and guard me through the night, and wake me with the morning light". Definitely less Creepy!

Great triple reaction! The 2014 version is superb, close to the original, but with one guitar only... the new version re-arranged the song totally new! It develops from more pop to The Warning rock, culminating into this famous iconic riff! The ultimate tribute to Metallica! It's an awesome arrangement! If I remember right, Metallica asked Alessia Cara, a famous pop singer and Grammy winner, for a version... luckily she has he same US management than The Warning, and so this manager connected these artists! They arranged and recorded the song in just one week, Alessia was connected via Internet, David Bendeth, the producer of Mayday, mixed it... it is the best version on the whole Blacklist album!

I was searching for female singers and The Warning's 2014 'Enter Sandman' came up. I looked at the thumbnail for a moment, at those little girls, and figured what the heck, if they were bad I didn't have to listen to the whole thing. After it was over I went looking for more stuff that they had done, which wasn't much back then. This was before XXI Century Blood, before the Foo Fighters cover.

And i'm sure i'm not gonna be the only one! And i will be here for Ayreon next week. Arjen's new Star One album (Revel in Time) will be out on 18-02 and it already has rave reviews. Looking forward to whatever album you will do by Ayreon : Arjen is a genius! Take care and cheers!

They play rock but someone take good care of them : earplugs (to protect their ears), very light amps, heads and instruments. Only the drums is a very one, but Paulina must have a tech to help her. So... this is great! For great musicians.

I actually thought you would do Dust to Dust as your "surprise" song from The Warning. That, of course, is the prologue or overture to _their_ rock opera, Queen of the Murder Scene. As for Enter Sandman, this is now what I think of as the song. It has a beauty to it, but it's an eerie beauty, not a serene one.

Here's an all female band that formed in Japan in 2016 after super band Destrose folded Bassist Miho whose idol is Steve Harris of Iron Maiden wanted to make a band that plays 80's style metal with modern touches so her and co founder and Destrose bandmate Drummer Haruna formed Lovebites and recruited guitarist Midori and Guitarist/Pianist Miyako who both shred guitar better than most men I have seen as Haruna beats the drums like they stole her boyfriend and she wants him back. ]:) They chose to recruit an R&B Singer Asami to sing and she has pretty much turned into a female version of Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden Singer) They don't have a bad song since 2016 they have produced 3 albums, 4 EP's, and 4 Live albums along with a compilation album of their best hits in 2021 Bassist founder Miho left the band for personal reasons and the band took a short hiatus followed by bass auditions won by internet famous Fami and they are releasing their 4rth album on Feb. 22nd 2023 with 10 new songs with the new alignment.
