The second instalment of how i've been keeping myself busy during lockdown. This ones like an episode of Countryfile as my Fox obsession takes over . It's been a joy to watch this family and i'm looking forward to seeing them develop in the next few months.

Wow - that is a great video Austin, and a real labour of love. They are fascinating and beautiful creatures, but you are a brave man encouraging foxes whilst keeping chickens. Last year unknown to us, we had a vixen set up her burrow / nest (?) under our shed. In the spring our elderly neighbour called to say that she thought there was an injured cat somewhere in her garden. After having a look under her big hedge, I found a small ball of fluff. At first I didn't realise it was a fox cub, as it didn't have the distinctive pointed snout. After calling the local wildlife rescue, they said it was common for vixens to hide their young pups a short distance from their burrow whilst she forages for food - and not to disturb it, but check if it was still there in 12hrs. Sure enough a few hours later the pup had disappeared. But within a couple of weeks, the vixen and her five pups (with grown snouts) became an early morning attraction in our garden - which was more of an overgrown jungle compared to yours. But they were almost impossible to catch on film, as nearly every time I went to get my camera they somehow sensed it and were gone. So kudos on your perseverance to capture such lovely footage. Was it a GoPro you setup in the garden? Anyway thanks for the upload, enjoy the fox family, but do keep your lovely chickens well guarded. ATB

Thank you. Quite a few folk have said we’re mad letting the foxes stay but they were here long before we and and the chickens were . The vixen has used our shed for the last 3 years to raise her young even when Marley was around. True to form the family moved out on June 1st to an overground lair in the woods behind our house but mum visits at 7pm every ninght and the cubs feed at after 8. They’re so big now and one brave girl will take food from my hand now 😁. I have a few clips which I’ll include in the next vid 👍. Hope you and yours are all well 👍🦊

Life never fails to surprise us and works in some wonderful ways at times Austin. With the sad period in your lives after losing Marley, the emptiness that his loss leaves, then life provides some joy to help repair some of the sadness. A new four legged friend or in this case friends, yes a totally different kind, but still a joy to watch and experience. The smiles return, the pain is calmed. Bit dodgy have foxes in the same garden as your hens but as long as they all social distance, it should be fine lol. Wow that was some sized rat and we have been watch in some blackbirds build a nest a couple of feet away from out back patio doors and its been great to watch. You win hands down with those foxes mind that was so special, I loved it! Take care all, cheers Alan

Thank you so much, What an amazing video,I am bird obsessed at the moment and have semi tame starlings joining me every day for breakfast, but they are costing a bloody fortune as they seem to love suet bars and ignore the peanuts, bird seed and everything else. Hey Guys, sorry I'm late to the party, been busy with my own self build motorhome. Ill have all the footage up soon so please swing by and have a look. Anyway what I want to add is my wife does the same and feeds 2 foxes In our garden everyday. I actually have to take care of foxes as well as other animals in the way of pest control for farmers and landowners, one off actually has around 60 chickens so it's a constant battle however the ones in our garden.... To me they ain't causing an issue and its beautiful to see and it's taken months for my wife to gain thier trust. Be mindful that whilst your feeding them and their happy then it's all good but if you guys go away on one of your trips then the foxes won't hesitate to have their fill on your chickens. Lovely chilled video, look forward to seeing you guys back out on the road or in the hills. Take care

Hi Austin & Lucy, Smashing video, love every aspect of Urban Wildlife and it doesn't get better than this, Looked out of the window the other evening around 2am and saw a fox on top of the clothing and shoe donation box that has been put there a couple of months ago, sometimes some idiots put household waste in there and the fox was trying to get into the deposit drawer but kept falling off onto the pavement below, seen him quite a few times now since lockdown, your family of foxes look well settled with their B & B facilities, hope you are both keeping well and safe, take care from both of us
@2FeetForward

Hi Mike , i've been absolutely fascinated by our fox family. So much so that i've started buying dog food again would you believe. It's unbelievable where some folk dump food waste and once a fox gets a whiff they'll be back for more. A lot of clothes bins have a one way door as well so i guess it wouldn't be difficult for a poor fox to get stuck. It wasn't long before the Vixen knew Marley wasn't around and she moved straight in and the family have sure made themselves at home . They've kept me busy during the lockdown though which is a blessing without Marley . Hope you are both well and not going too mad in all this . Take care and stay safe.

Blackie the blackbird! like it mate. Now, serious question as i'd value your opinion. Where do u stand on the to wildcamp or not to wildcamp current debate? we're allowed to walk in the countryside, and wildcamping is illegal anyway. So to me its just business as usual. I've been good and resisted up to now. But saturday i did meet up with an old mate and do one night in the woods. Curiously our preffered spot since the 80s where no bugger goes which is why we like it. Is now infested with dog walkers and mountain bikers everywhere right now. As far as i can tell as far as youtubers are concerned. The brits are the only ones not out filming. Survival lilly (Austria) and Joe robinet (canada) are out filming as per normal. Id love to hear your take on it.

To be honest I don’t think there is a better way to isolate . If I had it on my doorstep I reckon we’d have been out by now but I reckon I’d have kept it quiet and not done a vid. We’d love to head out in the camper and with a bathroom and toilet we wouldn’t even have to step outside . I think it’s the shaming thing holding people back . Each to their own I reckon as long as they stick to the rules in public and on the way out and back and keep it quiet what real harm can it do ? . Hopefully it won’t be long and this will all be irrelevant 🤞. Stay safe.

That's nice but gutsy what your are doing with those foxes. They may start trying to come into the house. Be careful they could carry disease. Sorry to be the negative sub. Just saying.

Thanks David , don't worry i've done my homework and would you believe they really aren't that bad .Apparently a cats bite is worse for you . Foxes carry just the same parasites as dogs and the only thing for us to worry about is Lungworm which we treat our dogs for . we can only catch it from faeces and as we don't have Rabies in the UK there isn't a lot else to worry about disease wise .
