Locked Away: The Emerald Dream

Hi !
The Emerald Dream has been a part of World of Wacraft from the beginning, both in terms of lore, and the actual game - where an alternate world existed beyond the physical world of Azeroth
- But one which players may still enter!
In this video we will explore the mysterious Emerald Dream through the eyes of the very first World of Warcraft players from 2004 to 2006, as well as what current retail players of 2023 (soon 2024) can expect to find in the Dream

Also there was a whole raid in Legion that took place in the Emerald Dream being corrupted by the Nightmare, called Emerald Nightmare, where at the end you were taken to a small, uncorrupted version of the Emerald Dream.

The emerald dream as a neighboring dimension, being corrupted by Great Old Ones is a Lovecraftian notion I can totally get behind

It's interesting to see how much was planned for the emerald dream in vanilla and how interwoven it was in a lot of quests and dialogue. I knew about the cut zone for years but it's interesting to see how much foreshadowing and setup they were doing for it, even early on.

One thing you missed is that devs also discussed a earlier concept of the Emerald Dream. That it was intended to be a zone that you only could quest in while dead. So you would be leveling and accidently die and suddenly you are in the Emerald Dream version of whatever zone you were in and opened a bunch of new quests. To get out you would go to one of the four Emerald Portals. But that concept obviously didn't make it

The green clouds look really creepy Oo Thanks for another great video! The farthest I managed in my explorations during classic was the impassable portal in Mount Hyjal. So, it's really great to see what real explorers did to find hidden worlds.

The green smoke was a hoax made up by the voidwalkerclan. Unfortunately you could not port in to the emerald dream.

In interviews the SoD team has mentioned players exploring the huge gate in azshara which has never been opened. It will likely be a raid called the deepbarrows underneath mount hyjal. If they are making a raid underneath mount hyjal then they will probably release mount hyjal as a raid or zone too. If mount hyjal becomes a zone then the emerald dream would probably become a raid in SoD!🎉

ngl I was a little disappointed with how the DF version came out. My favorite version was probably the Emerald Nightmare after you kill Xavius version.

No it was originally called: The Search for the Emerald Dream, but i like the “lost instance” so ill change it to that :)

5:38 i remember a long hoax about this back in the day. someone fabricated screenshots and short video "hints" on how to use these clouds along with the static zeppelin model inside org to reach the emerald dream.
