When Logan walks up behind Kendall and puts his hands on Kendall's shoulders at 2:00, he leans in and seems to physically take over Kendall, like he's speaking through Kendall, then disengages and resumes speaking through his own body. I tought it was more as he is addressing Roman and putting him off-balance by showing favoritism by putting his hands over Kendall since Roman don't even understand why they are so closely working the whole season when Kendall should be out of the picture for trying to overthrow Logan. And it obviously worked because Roman immidiatelly attacks Kendall and doesn't seem very confident, speaks with emotion rather than smarts and thru that gives Logan info on him. But yes as a whole it shows how tight grip Logan has over everybody, tightest Kendall since Logan knows about the dead boy and Kendall driving.

My jaw was left hanging after this episode. You are so right. I read that the scene was inspired by Lenin in the USSR. Stalin would play these crazy illogical games to sew distrust among the politburo and to create these artificial group dynamics in order to disrupt any actual alliances that may have been forming. Can you imagine? 20th century Russia was so insanely bizarre. Apparently 1 out of every 3 Russian adults were arrested at some point by the stazi secret police. The incentives that Stalin created were so perverse. Tell on the neighbors with a nicer apartment and then it’s yours. Only for that same thing to happen to your family. Truth didn’t matter at all, only the party mattered.

@@razzprince2877 Tom got to the point where he had to compromise on morals throughout the show. As you and others have stated, underneath it all, he's actually a decent human being. He genuine looks traumatised when Mencken gets in and this scene and many others shows you how much of an outsider he is. He is also the only one that doesn't come from wealth. (You can make an argument for Greg but he is still a Roy) Also, his relationship with Greg is more comical than anything for the most part. It's like older and younger brother stuff whereas what the Roys do is incredibly cruel and a lot of it comes from narcissism, classism and prejudice. Tom isn't like that though it's clear he picks up questionable traits as the seasons go on.

Tom's whole character arc is tragic, like most of the others, but you feel for him the most because of where he started vs where he's at. He's trapped in his own meager definition of success. I love how the "digusting brothers" joke kind of hints at how their dynamic stems from the need to survive in their circumstance, and perhaps references the younger Roy brothers dynamic- two guys who need each other but that reliance in this competitive environment means they also end up stepping on each others toes, to the point where the love shared is diluted with disgust turned outward.

The amazing thing about this show is that just when you think there is no way you can watch these terrible people any longer, at that moment, the show gives a character a shred of humanity (as if the writers and actors are saying sorry for creating such terrible people) that allows you to become invested in them again. It's like we the audience are in a toxic relationship with the show, and the show keeps promising that things will be better next time.

Growing up in a narcissistic household my mother used to pit the siblings against each other in games not unlike this. She used to set herself up as a judge in a court & encourage us to rat each other out, then whatever happened she would side with her golden child regardless. It was all just a ploy to put the kids she didn't like down futher & establish the golden child as superior, it only took me 20 years to figure that out!

It's like something straight out of ancient Roman history. The Emperor Tiberius would often retreat to an island off the Italian coast, where he would take pleasure in overseeing all kinds of humiliating acts of debauchery against his subordinates, who he would bring with him, and even his subordinates' children. Can't help but feel that Logan was channeling something along these lines in this scene. Phenomenal acting.
