Thanks for the video, I've learned so much from this series! I'm quite a bit new in Logic but I've found another and probably easier way to print all the drums from DMD: 1. Right-Click on the Pattern -> Convert -> Separate Pattern Region by Kit Place - the pattern region will be converted to multiple pattern region on each tracks in the DMD 2. Select all the tracks in the DMD with newly created regions -> File -> Bounce -> Tracks in place - You will get the new audio tracks with the printed stems

Hi Josh, thank you again for your videos. I have been watching the entire series from the beginning, and just finished watching this one, amazing as always. I would like to ask if you have a video showing how you use Maschine kits in Logic. I guess it would be easy enough to record audio samples from each kit and re-create the kits using DMD, although that would be a bit tedious... Do you ever use Maschine kits? I would love to learn about your work flow. Thank you so much for everything you have done!

Great! Thank you! 👍 20:52 - The tip for printing multitracks is great! It also works well on the Drummer Track, because in many projects if I make a Bounce Track in Place of the drum tracks, strangely the only one that stays in time is the Overheads one, the others all have an annoying delay! It happens in complex projects (I haven't figured out why yet...) this way - it's a bit more complicated - but it solves the problem!

Check and see if you have any high latency, high CPU plugins, especially on the stereo output for metering. Sometimes Logic will readjust its latency overall, because of high CPU plugins. A workaround would be to turn on Low Latency mode for a bit while printing, which will temporarily disable any high CPU plugins to optimize the latency. You can show it in the control bar.

@@MusicTechHelpGuy I found the problem... Trackspacer: a nice plugin, but to be inserted AFTER drum tracks bounce, even if deactivated it creates latency, with or without Low Latency activated... 😓 And even if it's not on the drum track! 🤷‍♂ Anyway, thanks again for the tip... and the videos!

Hi, thanks for your video. It's very educational and I've learned some new features I didn't know existed! I still have a question which I hope you could answer " is there a way to adjust the default setting?' I would like have my own send plugins instead of the stock ones from Logic. I think it would speed up my workflow if I could build my own DMD template. Can you teel something about that? Thanks a lot!

This is SO helpful, thank you! Question: If I’ve edited the length of an audio sample inside drum machine designer, can I export or save the Sample in that length somehow? The audio link stays the same in the stack track. (I’m in a newbie- bare with me)

Love it, thanks Josh - really helpful as always! Btw what are the best pan settings for drums? I notice you panned the toms, but would you pan any other kit pieces? Or is it normally straight down the middle?
@MusicTechHelpGuy
@MusicTechHelpGuy Жыл бұрын
Kick and Snare always center. Toms I like to pan a bit, either from the drummer's perspective, or from the front of the drum kit -- all personal taste. With electronic drums, I don't really pan anything else in the kit -- maybe FX here and there. With a real drum kit, the overhead mics are always hard panned, and I like to pan the hi hat to the same side of the overheads a bit.

Thanks for this tutorial! Today I tried to make my own acoustic Drum Kit in DMD. It always bugged me that you can't add any additional toms or cymbals in Drum Kit Designer. So to get the Sounds from DKD into DMD I loaded up DKD in every track like you demonstrated in this video. I then used some other kits for different toms and tuned them differently. I also added splash and china cymbals via sampler. However this turned out to be to totally unusable since it took up all of my Macs RAM because of all the DKD plugins running at the same time. So I guess a better way would be to use sampler to make my own Drum Kit with the DKD sounds. I eventually managed to load up the SoCal Kit into Sampler. However I don't understand sampler at all and can't manage to change any of the keys or add any sounds. Do you have a solution for this problem? Will you make a Sampler tutorial soon? Any help would be much appreciated :)

Question: Can multiple DMD pads be assigned to the same instrument/channel? You might want to do this when loading up that Kontact kit. The Kontakt kit has at least 16 sounds - what if you wanted to use four different sounds from that instance of Kontakt and assign them to four DMD pads? Anyone know?

Hey Josh n Folks. I am still struggling with understanding input output. I got a drum preset package and put it in dmd in the right slots. But I wan't F1 for soft kick and F1 "PAD" ( Alesis26 key) for the Hard kick. I think I'm missing the easy task of separating pad and key using input output assignments.

How can I use velocity in these designer? in a few years old video you showed how to use 4 kicks that will be played depended on the velocity. Isn't this possible anymore? Because in the comments you refer to this new plugin as an alternative for EX24

I am new to Logic and I am so greatful for your fantastic tutorials. I have a problem and don’t find the answer anywhere else. So I turn to you, if you don’t mind. I made a song and when I opened it today to continue I only see a score sheet. No regions, no tracks, no inspector, no nothing. From the notification I hear the song, but…What have I done? How can I correct? Pahlman from Finland

Why does it matter which spot you place your instrument in the drum designer?
@MusicTechHelpGuy
@MusicTechHelpGuy Жыл бұрын
It doesn't as long as you know what pitches you're using for each drum. But generally speaking, most drum kits follow the General MIDI drum kit order. Kick (C1), Rim Tap (C#1), Snare (D1), Clap (D#1), Snare 2 (E2), Low (G1), etc. So if you were to swap out your custom kit for another pre-made kit, in order to make sure the drums are on the correct notes, you would want to follow the GM kit order. The pads in DMD are automatically labeled with the typical drum that is placed on that note, so as long as you follow that, you'll be following the GM kit order. All of Logic's drum kits follow the GM kit order, as do most third-party drum kits. So I suppose it's just a good habit to follow.
@13thJ
@13thJ Жыл бұрын
@@MusicTechHelpGuy Once they’re in drum designer you’re using the midi notes and putting them on the notes that you want so I’m a little confused. The pitch of your drum will be different depending on which spot you place it? Or is that just for someone who’s going to be using the keyboard to play their entire drum set?
@MusicTechHelpGuy
@MusicTechHelpGuy Жыл бұрын
@@13thJ It has to do with what pitch trigger the sample pad to play. even though it doesn't look like it, MIDI notes are still triggering each pad. When you use the step sequencer, you don't have to worry about it so much, because they're just rows in the step sequencer, but if you were using piano roll to enter notes, or if you were playing in your beat with a keyboard or other MIDI controller, you'd have to know what note each pad is. At the bottom of each pad, you'll see the note that is associate with each pad.
