It's Groundhog Day, not Groundhogs. Groundhogs Day is the sequel, where Bill Murray teams up with a squad of Colonial Marines, rescues a surrogate daughter, nukes all the Groundhogs, and kills the Groundhog queen by blasting it into space with a walking forklift..

Sylvie was just insufferable this entire season, and I totally agree, I would've just killed her lol. I think Loki choosing not to kill her has nothing to do with her, he's actually just choosing free will. I'm reminded of a line from Kain to Raziel in Soul Reaver 2: "suppose you throw a coin enough times... suppose one day, it lands on its edge". Loki rejected the false dichotomy and found another way. If they decide to retire Loki then I think this was as satisfying an outcome as any, but of course they can always bring him back with some clever contrivance if they want. I think Sylvie had a moment of self-awareness when she didn't kill Victor Timely, but it wasn't clear to the audience. Maybe she should've had a breakdown like Sarah Connor after she attempted to kill Miles Dyson in T2, realizing she was acting just like the machines she was trying to defeat.

The show is actually a failure for all of its characters because the writing is bad. None of the characters have any depth or dimension. And Loki isn't even Loki. He is a generic Ken Doll Loki. I understand why fans who secretly want nothing more than fan service are happy. Like the No Way Home fans who are just happy to see 3 SpiderMan dolls in a group hug, which makes them cry. (in a way that actually say...resolving the mid east conflict never would) They can simply ignore the narrative illogic that this simpering fool of a Peter Parker allowed his aunt May to be surrounded by 3 psychopaths and human dinosaur hybrid (lol) and *got her killed!* Oops. Happens all the time.

@@rrando726 Sir, This Is A Wendy's. ;) I agree that most of the characters are pretty shallow and one-note, but Loki himself was portrayed with depth and that's what matters most in a show called "Loki". I'm not sure what you mean by "Loki isn't even Loki"... I mean sure, he isn't the comic book Loki. He's the MCU Loki and he's been on a long redemption arc after Avengers 1, and was given a poignant but heroic ending.

@@rrando726 yeah, and the show expects you to believe that these TVA assholes and Bitch Sylvie are suppose to be his friends, yet they didn’t really spend a lot of time with eachother. If it was a full season sure, but Loki’s was a member of the TVA for ONE EPISODE. And there were only 6 episodes and most of the time he was fighting the TVA. As for mobius, he and Loki aren’t really friends, mobius has been a dick to Loki, and yet Loki acts as if they’ve been through SO MUCH, like 25 episodes worth of a journey…. Season 1 was a dumpster fire, and season 2 is just a whole bunch of NOTHING. When you think about it you could avoid Loki and it wouldn’t have ANY effect on the MCU whatsoever….

Hey, Alachia! I cannot agree with you about this episode. It was absolutely brilliant and deserving of an Emmy. Hiddleston, Wilson and Majors all gave shaded, subtle performances that were just magnificent! For all the disjointedness of Phases 4 and 5, these tightly-structured two seasons clearly are the starting point of the Multiverse Saga with Season 2 improving many of what seemed to be the failings of Season 1. First off, these are shows based on comics and, in Marvel comics, all but two characters have had their fates undone. You have to expect that going in. It's the nature of the beast. If you don't think RDJ, Chris Evans and ScarJo are coming back at some point, you're in for a rude awakening. Who never returned? Marvel's two sacred cows are MAR-VELL -- who had a whole graphic novel about his death which was a watershed moment in Marvel history -- and, of course, UNCLE BEN. Second, most of this season is lifted from Al Ewing's "Loki, Agent of Asgard" comics which has Loki become the God of Stories. Ever since J. Michael Straczynski's run on "Thor" back in 2007, Loki became less a stock villain and more of a wild card character who ran the gamut from Chaotic Good to Chaotic Evil which is appropriate for the God of Mischief! Third, the references to actual Norse mythology were troweled on thickly! Loki tethering a Multiversal Yggdrasil was reminiscent of Odin's sacrifice of being hung from its branches for nine days and nights to acquire knowledge. Loki being bound to an eternal throne is reminiscent of his being chained to a rock in a cave where poisonous snake venom would drip into his eyes whenever his dutiful wife Sigyn was forced to empty the dish she used to collect it to ease his agony. He was subjected to this for murdering Thor's brother, Balder the Good, and his writhings were the mythological explanation for earthquakes. The closing moments were tragic and majestic. The character development was insanely good! Loki always wanted a throne out of envy and spite but, when he finally ascends to his birthright, it's a gilded cage. Loki thirsted for absolute power but, when he finally seizes the reins of ultimate power, it is a selfless act of service to free the cosmos. Loki, in the MCU, played at being a malevolent god since the Asgardians were just durable, long-lived aliens but he truly apotheosizes as he mounts those stairs becoming a benevolent God with a capital 'G'. There will be no Season 3 but he will definitely return for either "Kang Dynasty" or "Secret Wars". In Jonathan Hickman's multiversal reboot "Secret Wars", God-Emperor Victor von Doom rules Battleworld from his throne among Yggdrasil's roots with his police force of Thors, his counselor Stephen Strange and his consort Susan Richards. Interesting parallels, no? The three options were: Option 1: Kill He Who Remains --> Loom meltdown --> fail-safe reset of Sacred Timeline which branches without TVA --> Multiversal War that dooms trillions until He Who Remains triumphs and re-establishes TVA --> Sacred Timeline maintained at the expense of Free Will Option 2: Kill Sylvie --> TVA preserved with He Who Remains maintaining the Sacred Timeline at the expense of Free Will Option 3: Replace the dead He Who Remains and the Loom with a Multiversal Yggdrasil thus bypassing the fail-safe reset effect of the Loom meltdown which would have restored He Who Remains to power. By tethering himself to the Multiversal Yggdrasil, Loki preserves Free Will and the TVA who now hunt Kang variants to prevent a Multiversal War. ODDS AND ENDS: "Pumpkins" is a 19th-century epithet for something wonderful; an exclamation of exultation. The 616 adjacent realm in Mobius' report was the Quantum Realm in "Quantumania" where Kang was defeated by the Pyms and Scott. Ravonna might evade Alioth in that pyramid where she just might find a pruned variant of Kang known as Rama-Tut, his pharaoh persona!

It wasn't a choice between "war" and "not war", it was a choice between having timelines where his friends existed or not, including Sylvie. There was always going to be a Kang multi-verse war, however the Sacred Timeline was to insure that the war ended with "He Who Remains" building and controlling the TVA. Loki is allowing all of these branches to exist where his friends without their memories being wiped exist and a version of the TVA also exists, but Kang's outcome is uncertain.

_it wasn't a choice between "war" and "not war", it was a choice between having timelines where his friends existed or not, including Sylvie._ Nonsense. If you watched the whole show you realize that all of them have been purged or pruned multiple times. There is no plausible outcome or context in which these characters do and do not exist in one timeline or another. The idea that something is at stake is totally dependent on your forgetting how the show destroyed any real stakes long ago. Disagree - name a single character in two seasons of this show - who because of 'choice' no longer can exist???? Go ahead and start with Kang - since the next Avengers movie is called Kang Dynasty and by the very definition of its title COMPLETELY MOOTS THIS STORY.
@oolong2

@@rrando726 Pruning takes things out of time, to the end of time to be destroyed. When the loom is destroyed, his friends existed but not the versions that he knew. Those don't get created until Kang creates the TVA. All Loki was trying to do was preserve the friends that he knew.

Given what Sylvie went through, how she lived in End Times, with the TVA at her heels, I don’t blame her personality. And you’re not the only one with wanting to kill Sylvie. Also, had Loki killed her, he’d be playing right into HWR’s hands, and no way Loki would do that, imo. I may be wrong, but Tom is pretty much done with the character of Loki.

Episode 5 was super filler and even though we saw Loki ascend to a throne and what an ascension it was. WOW. But man was I left confused and bewildered. That one conversation with Kang literally destroyed the entire season 2 series except for the last half of the finale lol. I do believe Loki will search through the multiverse and the branches he’s holding he will band together the multiversal Avengers or Exiles for Kang dynasty/ Secret Wars.

A lot of what I am seeing not just in current MCU writing but in general, is the concept of justification. Plot points or character elements are put in not because they make sense or are an organic outgrowth of a character's experiences and/or story, but as a way to justify something down the road. Oh, we need Character X to be able to do Y for Z in the next chapter/book/etc. OK, lets shoehorn in a couple of lines or in this case rushed plot point that will justify or make something available for later. Sorry, I've been a professional writer for over ten years and everywhere I go I keep seeing lazy writing. Not only that, but it's often not entertaining, which last time I checked is the reason for media in the first place. Power ups, new powers, and making it so pet character are "the strongest" without the story to back it up is BORING.

_Plot points or character elements are put in not because they make sense or are an organic outgrowth of a character's experiences and/or story, but as a way to justify something down the road._ Thank you. I was beginning to think I was the only to notice that nothing Loki does in this show follows from his entire life history, actions or character. His actions would make more sense if he were DR. WHO timelord and then you would understand his obsession with well, lording over time as an act of super ego. Loki - want's to rule over people - as an act of "cruelty" because he is psychopath - who gets satisfaction from causing pain to others - and which is a result of his tortured psyche [abandoned by his mother as runted Frost Giant - treated as Red Head step child in favor of fair haired boy Thor]. Sure his character can 'grow' or change....but that's not what this show is or does. They simply abandon his interesting character and replace him with a dull one.

Great summary of the whole episode. Well thought out. 1. Entire Multiverse being wiped out to only have one timeline is far worse than a number of them by kangs. I hate the Sylvie character but I think she was right in this. Yes millions may die from Kangs, but the entire multiverse vs those millions? I pick the Kang fight looking at that comparison. 2. I don’t get how pruning Kangs will serve anything? Unless the TVA actually kills them, they will spawn together at the same place & plan a way to get out & destroy everything. The logic of them pruning them is stupid. Really enjoying your vids :)

_entire multiverse being wiped_ Invented stakes - fake - by virtue of the original logic of one who remains. There was never any wiping out of the entire multiverse - only war and destruction leading back to reset. And that is still the case. I submit that nothing that happened in this show matters. There are still countless Kangs to rule the multiverse. So Loki did nothing. I mean - this is base of the next Avengers plot and they are working to crate fake stakes (like Wanda dying in the Dr. Strange movie) and stall for time until Kang can do his thang.

It's such a cluster fk of illogical McGuffins that trying to figure out what could or should happen seems pointless. It's like when a kid plays with this hero dolls and mighty mouse kicks superman in the nutz and wins the fight. lol. If you actually ask 'how' you stop and catch yourself trying to apply reason to the wish fulfillment fantasy of a small child. Then the jokes on you. For Loki - they never have and never will explain how/why he is captured by the TVA - when he never time traveled and the Avengers did. Nor do they explain why they purged the entire timeline - but then at the last second spared Loki. On and on.... The writer tried using The One Who Remains as the ultimate McGuffin. He is God so whatever he says happens happens. So....when then end of this show is retconned and Loki climbs down out of the tree so Kang can start "Kangin" [if Majors isn't convicted] they will easily explain that Kang was Kangin and just left Loki Hangin..... the whole time. It's easy for kids playing with dolls make up rules that leverage their lack of attention span and formative cognitive ability. And so it is with the MCU and its fans.

I don't think there will be a Loki S3, but I do think we'll see the TVA and this version of Loki in one of the next Avengers films, either Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars. The fundamental problem is that the ability to time-slip anywhere, means there is no one thing that he couldn't have changed (not just slipping back to the HWR and Sylvie fight). It also doesn't have stakes, because (as you said) we know this isn't how Loki ends. Loki (and Sylvie) already had too much power for this story... couldn't he have just turned off the security protocol. I still think there's a good chance that Kang might be re-cast; either that or the do a reset. What is so funny about the ending? You keep giggling about every detail but there's nothing to laugh about. And you're minimizing his arc, it's not just about Season 1 to Season 2, this is from Thor 1 to the end of Season 2. He went from being such a selfish and petulant ass who had delusions of grandeur and over time he learned the truth behind his relationships with family and friends and what these relationships mean to him and learns that in order to protect these bonds and people he holds so dear, he has to make a huge sacrifice and become this being holding together the multiverse. THIS is HIS REAL "Glorious Purpose' not galactic conquest like he first assumed it was(which was actually insecurity brought on by his origin as an adopted frost giant). The fact that YOU don't buy it is because of you having something against Disney/Marvel and it's created a mistrust in their ability to create compelling things for you. And no there is no season 3, this was designed with two parts in mind. Do I think this is necessarily the final time we'll see Loki? Nah I think we'll see him Avengers: Kang Dynasty and/or Avengers: Secret Wars but I think his days as being an active member of the MCU as a whole are done unfortunately.

Wow, I totally read the ending differently to you. Since gods are basically immortal him being the god of timelines and sitting on the throne till the end of time isn't really him being trapped but him choosing a destiny, the god of stories (didn't really get that comment but guessing it was a comics thing) exists beyond time (like the TVA supposedly was but actually wasn't). Yea, Sylvia was annoying but only insofar as the writers didn't know what to do with her so she was kind'a superfluous. Also, the last episode should have finished when they realised the loom thing wasn't going to work and given this episode time to breathe, allowing Loki to come to his final realisation (it felt a bit rushed) as to how to resolve things. Love your channel btw...

I haven't been watching any TV, so I take things on faith, but the YT channel Retro Nerd Girl loves this show, so I would be fascinated by you two having a discussion. Abstractly, I like the idea that a god of hope would have a background in mischief, to be able to dream up schemes to wiggle around, or prevent, an impending doom. Hope may sound noble, but I think there's something mischievous about it, which is the vibe of heroes from Robin Hood to James Bond and beyond. This is all reminding me a little of the character arc of Christopher Walken in the role of the Archangel Gabriel Gone Bad, a looming second Lucifer. It is the most Walken role of all, Walken never Walkened harder in his Walken life than he Walkened for Gabriel. He must have loved the role, which began in the movie The Prophecy, because he kept returning for sequel after sequel even as each sequel kept getting worse. I think he was bizarrely trying to redeem the Gabriel we met in the first movie. I don't think he succeeded, and in and of themselves the sequels are skippable (in fact, you may even snarkle cynically at the voiceover narration of the end of the first movie), but Walken made an interesting effort. You have freshly stirred the campfire embers of my imagination, Alachia, thank you.

I suspect the way out is quite obvious, we already may have seen it on screen already, which is you pluck The "quasi-Evil" Loki out of The Avengers timeline or a nearby adjacent dimension and use that one. One that has none of the experiences of the TV show, as that serves the Movie audience better as they don't have to watch the TV show as ultimately, none of it matters.

While I do see ur points Alachia, that's what made it so beautiful to me is by Loki giving the multiverse a fighting chance to thrive is alot like free will and one of the costs of having free will is war. Also the Loki thing is different than the Kang thing because in season one the TVA were focus on pruning breaches in the sacred timeline and now their focus is pruning the individual himself instead of the entire timeline that Kang belongs too.

Glad for a critical review as I've said similar things and been down voted to hell. Aside from just the Sylvie thing, if you consider the 'epic' ending, I don't think that was the original intention. To me it seems that Loki and HWR were supposed to involuntarily team up at the end but because of the issues with Jonathan Majors they made the ending super vague. There was no plot setup for what happened. The journey beats for Loki were there but I just doubt that they would have wrote the season if this was the intended conclusion. So much fetch quests and time wasting in each of the episodes. Why couldn't we have one episode where Sylvie and Loki super connect with each other or really become multiverse relevant? Why a weird time quest that ended up throwaway. What about ending on a way to help save Loki?

Didn’t watch any of this season, and barely remembered anything from season 1 honestly, but I admire you for making it thru. Your reviews were really interesting, and I honestly felt bad for you after episode 5 because it was so frustrating. I didn’t watch it because Loki was literally the last original character left standing it felt like, and after seeing how Marvel treated them in the end I was like no way. From your reviews I’m not entirely sure they didn’t actually carry on the endless cycle. It sounds like a huge disappointment either way. Not sure it will get a season 3 because supposedly, per some leaks that some channels that cover rumors from Disney, Jonathan Majors has been fired, and it’s confirmed I guess that his movie is axed. After a “villain” that had a terrible character arc and died like 4 times, in the lamest ways, not really gonna be too sad about it. I saw from an interview too that Tom Hiddleston is actually done, and he talked about that last scene being his final scene and it ending his character arc, which is a shame. Kinda feels like the end of an era in a way, since I really just have not been able to connect with anyone from phases 4 and 5.

I can understand Loki not wanting to kill Sylvie. He told her that he's been where she is now. He was full of anger, trying to destroy everyone who he thought had wronged him. Mobius saw that Loki could be better, and Loki sees that in Sylvie. Giving up on Sylvie would be giving up on himself, so instead he made the sacrifice to maintain all timelines. I know that it's possible that this might change in the future, but I think what's more important is do I feel like that sacrifice was true to the character that Loki became. I think he did grow from someone who wanted power to have others serve him to someone who wanted power to save others, even if it meant his own freedom. The story was a success in my opinion. I don't think there will be a third season, but my guess is he will appear in some big event related to the multiverse.

I liked the season of Loki and overall the whole show. I appreciated that they wrote a cohesive 2 season arc, they learned from the shortcomings of season 1, and they kept things pretty self-contained (although speculation is off the charts). Loki approached his relationship with Sylvie a little more wisely this time, and although he was unable to kill her, he didn't fold to her nihilistic way of looking at the world, instead leaning on the more optimistic Mobius. And they just did a good job giving time to people that had something to say this time around. I appreciated the sentiment that you can't just tear things down and not consider the outcome, i appreciated the theme of sacrifice (although, yes that will inevitably be undercut because Disney is shameless), and thought the cinematography, the music, the wardrobe all contributed to a solid show. I rate it about 8600/10k

So let me get this straight. The TVA exist outside of time and space, meddling with timelines and alternate realities. But Loki can travel through timelines and realities within the bounds of the TVA. Like, his timeslipping allows him to move between different times and realities within the pocket universe of the TVA, which is meant to stand outside of all the permutations of the regular multiverse. So, every time Loki timeslips within the TVA, he's either moving between or creating entirely new multiverses. Not new universes - new multiverses. Meaning, he's multiplying the infinite possibilities of the regular universe by infinity, every single time. Back during season 1, I made a joke by asking whether there's at least one universe where the multiverse doesn't exist, opening up the idea that each multiverse is itself one of many possible multiverses. Season 2 of Loki just straight-up makes me joke a reality. XD

As for " the sacred time-line I have no idea why a reformed bad guy would just take the word of another. The tva mentioned that universe 616 had a Kang that they dealt with, so even the big bad of the show is no concern...and sylvie is a mass murderer who yeah was hunted by TVA, but now she works with them or did and is going to live a "normal" life on earth working at McDonald's, why would a 1000 year old alien "god" stay on earth and work fast food they're not human or even American, why stay here go to somewhere else?....not looking forward that Young avengers storyline ( don't have young Kang be their big bad please).😢

I love this ending for Loki season 2 even though it's very bittersweet. Loki's Glorious Purpose has finally come by sacrificing himself to destroy the Temporal Loom from destroying everything except the Sacred Timeline with Loki replacing the Loom becoming the God of Stories. When Loki locks Mobius and Sylvie out and tearfully says goodbye to them, he says the same last words he said to Odin right before falling off the Bifrost Bridge and seemingly dying: “I could have done it, father. For you! For all of us!”. Loki's purpose is a glorious one, but the burden is completely heavy, where he is completely alone, unable to be with his loved ones ever again. Still Loki gets to watch over them from countless timelines on a throne at the end of time. No subjects to rule over, no family, no friends. Just him. His god attire isn't fancy, no gold trimmings, as it emphasizes the "burden" he places on himself.

I didn't really get it. They stop being consistent within the rules they setup. I don't think they knew how to end the series and chose the 'disney' ending, sort of like Frozen (I've watched it like 10 times b/c kids). I think this actually gives them an out of the Kang dynasty, because Loki became the One Who Remains. you can even see that Mr. Timely didn't get the TVA book anymore. I actually laughed when I saw "A few Centuries later".. in my mind, I immediately read that with the Sponge Bob voice and thought they were going for a comedy. I didn't really liked the ending to be honest, within the story of the Loki character it didn't really give him an arc, he didn't 'learnt' or grew, he is the same person from the 2nd episode. Nothing changed, and the new superpowers felt a little like Deux Ex, it was a new thing outside the initial boundaries of the universe they crated in the first season. Loki now being able to time travel sort of cancels out every bad thing that will happen, because He can kill/let Kang live, or make any other change needed. Nothing matters because it can get fixed after, even if it takes centuries. Loki killed his mom, but he couldn't kill Silvie?? The TVA keeps pruning or killing new timeline/universes, same as what they were doing from the start. Rinoah and the other characters died/were exiled for nothing. it's not multiple lines because Loki can time travel within the same timeline. I get that they were looking for a possible out for Kang and I think that's the only thing this series gives them. Maybe they can do Secret Wars, or the other story with Dr. Doom now and replace him with Loki, but I don't think they'll do a good job at it. Thanks for the video, I really like your takes and reviews.

Yes, I know there's a drawer full of them in the TVA, but in the timeline Loki came from it was important) I thought we would have gotten something good. Instead we got...this. Who created the Time Loom? How does multiple timelines impact the multiverse? What the hell happened to that Celestial that was birthing from the Earth in Eternals? Are the multiverses in No Way Home and MoM different from all these timelines? What is going on with White Vision? And was all of this timeline nonsense going on simultaneously as all of the Phase 1-5 movies and shows? Is there such a thing as free will within the MCU? Loki definitely alludes there isn't. There is just so much mess going in all of these MCU shows and now they're as disjointed and convoluted as the comics. Comics are not doing so hot.
