London Underground-59+62 Stock & Clapham Island platforms 1998

Some more shots from the London Underground now. Cpaham Common and Clapham North both have narrow island platforms and both are seen here, 59 stock with an odd shot of their 95 stock replacements. We finish with a few shots at Hendon Central. There are 3 half units of 62 Stock on this vid, for a bit of fund see if you can spot them! 59 stock are probably my favourite underground trains. I absolutely adore the unpainted finish.

Oh my gosh as a kid the sound on the platform of these trains coming into Euston used to terrify me. It was so loud and I always thought the train was derailing XD

Great film. Brings back memories but also the fact l hated these island platforms. Never felt safe with them being so narrow.

I loved the tunnel portals at Hendon Central. I fell hard for the tube when I visited London in 99.

Have always liked these no nonsense good looking, totally functional units. It's thanks to '59 stock that when I had a promotion interview in a job I was in years ago. Although the job had nothing to do with Trains, doing my research on the people who were going to interview me one of those people I discovered was an expert on corrosion. Thanks to the Chairman of a Rail Group I belong to I had learned from him that when they were retiring the '59s, the body work of these Units were in very good condition. Reason being that if you allow the outer skin of these trains alone and don't polish them, the exposed outer skin of the metal naturally oxidizes which then forms its own barrier against the elements. That information was the key interest to the interview to achieving the promotion.
