I was U.S.NAVY. WE had to pull into portsmouth for temporary repairs.. we ummmm contacted with underwater item.. at the mouth of denhelder bay.. deep water.. we tied to pier there. We lost both sonar domes uss Farragut ddg37. Spent 3 days for investigation review board and stop minor flooding.. we could look out into the bay from pierside.. we noticed then soviet recovery ships.. mini sub attached..2/926 soviet destroyers 1/patrol frigate. We also saw soviet then Mig 23's keeping a combat air patrol..official record stated we hit underwater fuel line... scratching my head. We never saw recovery oil booms at collision site.. smh.. crew was ordered to say nothing. Investigation board questioned everyone.. we as a tight crew never had a bad word about our commanding officer.. then Cmdr Jeremy BOORDA.. who's career took him to highest naval office..CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS.. ONLY OFFICER TO SERVE THERE THAT WAS NOT AN ACADEMY GRAD.. CNO BOORDA WAS A SAILORS SAILOR may he rest in peace.. TIME MAGAZINE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES TRYING TO DESTROY FINEST DESTROYER COMMANDER IN THE FLEET. I HAD PLEASURE OF SERVING UNDER HIM FOR 18 MONTHS..I screwed up and mast in front of him Ordered punishment of 100 dollar fine. 5 days extra duty 5 days no liberty..I deserved it. Later that night came to galley ask if I was ok.. he enjoyed the spaghetti gravy at supper.. from what wardrobe messcooks told me . He ate 2 bowls of gravy alone after dinner with bread.. capt asked for recipes.. capt was told I ask to use family (mom) Recipes.. lolol he asked me very nicely if he could have it.. I told him it's family top top secret lolol During that patrol he asked a few if I give it to them nooool.he smiled. Captain BOORDA WAS A GREAT COMMANDING OFFICER..

How proud that Mum must be. These guards are magnificent. I get so angry with ignorant tourists treat the guards with such disrespect.

And you don’t think his mum was being disrespectful? She was, by putting that sign on his shoes, she was. If a tourist had done that, there would be an uproar on here. But because it’s his mum, I guess it’s alright then. ( not🤦🏼

Went through the same experience when on guard duty at the Residence of His Excellency the Governor of British Gibraltar. My mum had her pic taken next to me. It was the proudest moment in her life, especially when a UK tourist commented to her " You're certainly taken by that trooper" to which she replied" Of course I am, he's my son."

The Parents of our Service men and women are absolute gems! I remember coming home from the first Gulf Conflict and listened to how they had to watch and hear every step and detail of that campaign. No matter how proud, that must of been torture mentally for family and loved ones. Something I did not fully comprehend until I became a father myself. Politicians rarely send their kids off to war,if they did, we probably would put more effort into peace negotiations. That is something that is rarely sought and demanded in this day and age? Why are the international community not pushing and insisting on peace talks? Something has gone terribly wrong with our society for us to be so at ease with conflict and never have we been so dangerously close to the situation in Ukraine to go Global. Glad my lad isn't following my footsteps that's for sure! Regards M
