Finally! It's time to stop kicking the tires and start lighting some fires! First cook was epic. Brisket, pulled pork, baby backs, and beans. Check out the action and give us a like if you do!

Thanks Phil! I definitely have a long way to go on stick burners, but I'm learning. I owned a different one before and hated it. But I just couldn't give up on them for good. Had to come back. And I can't tell you how helpful Chris at LSG was in educating me and helping me make a decision. Great company, great products, great service. I hope to one day add one of their cabinet cookers too!

Wow. What a great video. Thanks for posting this. I found this researching the 20" because my friend Troy got one and low and behold, it looks like he found your video too. That new design has a lot going for it. I bet you will love that thing. (I'm a huge fan of Rus's channel too. Everything that guy puts out is interesting to me.)

Thanks so much, Jason ;) Seriously, I love your channel. Before I started my own channel (partly due to inspiration from you, T-ROY, Rus, and Malcom Reed's channels) I used to comment on your videos under my personal account "Jonathan Hamilton" [I also go by AKMIMNAK on the BBQ Brethren forum, where I see you regularly]. You got me started down the offset route almost a year ago when you posted about the epic Bayou Classic deal at Costco. That was an AWESOME video and the first one of yours I ever saw. I actually then discovered T-ROY because of your channel, not the other way around. I never did find that deal at my Costco, but I ended up getting into an offset anyways (I hated it and sold it). But I just couldn't give up on offsets. I wanted to defeat the challenge! So, I got into a Lone Star last month and the rest will be history :) New cooker, new channel, new enthusiasm for BBQ. So thank you, very sincerely, for nudging me down the road. I'm 34 days into my channel and just hit 100 subscribers today, and I'm hoping many more milestones to come. If so, you've got a piece of the credit. Thanks for your great videos, and your positive attitude. Keep up the good work, Justin!

I have been watching bbq videos for some time and have REALLY enjoyed yours. I like your honesty with your cooks and your objectivity with the smoker. Is fun to see others (T Roy and Russ) stop by too. I guess bbq is a small world. Did you upgrade to the 1/2” firebox? Why/why not? Any lessons learned out there for those of us still in the market? Keep up the great work and can’t wait to see your next video.

Elliott and Shelley Carman Thanks so much for the support! I was floored that T-ROY and Rus stopped by :) I didn't upgrade my firebox due to expense, loss of the griddle with that option, and general curiosity to see what the stock firebox could do up North on cooler days. My general advice to anyone considering an offset is, be willing to spend the time to learn, and be willing to spend the money on a great cooker. Otherwise you'll be less than satisfied.

Awesome video looks like tho food turned out great. If I could offer any constructive criticism it would be to use smaller splits, I take full splits (which are perfect for the 24'' pits) and cut them in half. Works better in keeping that small hot clean burning fire that is the key to success.
@Texas2.5
@Texas2.5 6 жыл бұрын
lonestargrillz I welcome your input! Thank you. I assume your are talking splitting them in half longways, but just in case I'll ask, do you think chopping them in half right across the middle would work? I'm thinking in terms of easily throwing it on my chop saw, for example.
@lonestargrillz
@lonestargrillz 6 жыл бұрын
Yes throw it on the chop saw and cut the full size splits in the middle. This keeps it so you have an nice small hot clean burning fire.

Texas Style BBQ and Cuisine Thank you so much! Man, I love that cooker. LSGs have always been fine pieces of American craftsmanship, but this new design is somethin else. In the LSG video on the new 20” smokers, they show that the Tel-True was sitting around 250, while the upper rack was 275 and 225 for the bottom rack. Have you found that the 50 degree difference between top and bottom racks to be fairly consistent in your cooks? It also seems like the temps on the top and bottom racks stay pretty even from right to left, is that also your experience? Just curious how the pit works for you, since there aren’t tuning plates.

how many turkeys do you think you could put on there?
@Texas2.5
@Texas2.5 5 жыл бұрын
Man, this is a total guess, but I would say max of six. It depends on the size of the turkey obviously. There's 5.5" clearance between shelves, which is just a hair too small to fit turkeys in there with both shelves in. So you either have to spatchcock the birds, or you have to remove the top shelf. So this limits things when it comes to tall items like turkeys. I have not had this problem with any other kind of meat, the tallest pork butts and briskets fit just fine with both shelves in. Keep in mind that this smoker has an incredible amount of space for a 20" smoker. Any other 20" on the market would have less head clearance on each rack, I believe. If tons of space is your main goal, you should also consider the 24" series as well as the offset cabinets.

I love LSG but I hate the bolt on not welded components. Also why did they reduce the wall stock of the cooker from 1/4 to 3/16. The flame up is annoying as well. I’m done bitching and still want one real bad. Oh yeah the 25 dollar add on handle is annoying too.
@Nanook6
@Nanook6 5 жыл бұрын
The bolt-on stack saves shipping costs. It is solid as a rock. I accidentally dumped my unit over on its side, and we picked it back up by the stack because that was the best leverage point. The stack didn't budge. Very solid.

dont warm your wood on the painted top lid. They say this in the LSG instruction guide. Build your fire on the RHS of the firebox and warm your wood on the LHS in the firebox ...
@Texas2.5

bavariasuhl my understanding is that only applies during the initial seasoning cook and it's ok to do after that
@lonestargrillz
@lonestargrillz 6 жыл бұрын
Should be okay after you season it real well but my advice is to per-heat it on the griddle plat, its hotter and no chance of scratching the paint.
@Texas2.5
@Texas2.5 6 жыл бұрын
Good idea. Could I gently set the griddle lid down on the wood, while preheating logs, or would that put too much stress on the hinges? My only concern with leaving the lid up is if a wind gust blew it closed on the wood, that would definitely create some significant force on the hinges (not to mention if it happened while someone's hand or arm was too close).

I liked your idea to wrap the pork butts in an aluminum pan that saves the juice. Brisket looked great! Really like the area of the cooker. Plenty of room for what I would need with my clan, plus with my 22.5 WSM I feel I'm set for capacity. As for delivery, I would not complain about $308 for lift gate delivery, considering I just spent $150 in fuel roundtrip to Kansas City last weekend. Going to try Rus' bean recipe next cook. He has just been killing it with his videos!
@Texas2.5
@Texas2.5 6 жыл бұрын
Robert Weber Yes, I agree. And keep in mind, $150 of that total was for home delivery and lift gate itself. So the actual shipping was ridiculously cheap. If a guy had a buddy with a flat bed tow truck....:) That's how Rus unloaded his beast. He is the best of the best in BBQ videos as far as I'm concerned.
