Come on Jenny it deserves a 50! Fabulous model in every way! And the detail doesn’t fall off! Do we really need anyone than an 8 pin decoder! What extra do we get with a 21 pin? If we do, do we really need it! The fact that retailers are selling them at a healthy discount means they are a must for the normal modeller! Well done Hornby!!!😊😊

I had a chance to drive one of these in BR days so was delighted when the model became available - I agree that it is a superb model and performs very well on my layout - good steady performance

Hi Jenny, I’ve purchased 2 of these and yes they have been worth waiting for, they are very accurate models indeed. For Hornby to provide variety with AWS fitted to 78047 and an unfitted 78054 is wonderful. Personally I feel these are a better model all round from them. As I model the Highland region between 1955-1985 I am a very happy modeller indeed and look forward to the Black Five next year. Hope you and the cupboard Monkey have a wonderful Christmas and a peaceful new year.

Hi Jenny, nice review. I only just came across this review as I just purchased one of these beauties (78047). For my use here in the United States I installed a Soundtraxx Econami UK ECO-100 sound decoder with a TCS KA-1 Keep Alive capacitor unit. I had to cut open the tender bunker to fit everything inside, but since I would be using the coal load nothing would be visible anyway. For the speaker I used a 28 mm (not 25 mm as in your video - It say 28 mm in the instructions) 2 Ohm, 2 Watt speaker from Soundtraxx. The locomotive sounds and runs great, and I am very pleased with it.

Another reason for BR’s standardisation was the fact the railways were flat broke after WWII, so any cost savings were of paramount importance. That aside, this is a lovely-looking model reviewed at n an excellent video.

I just wish SOMEONE would produce a model of the BR 3MT 77XXXX 2-6-0s!

The cab design was an attempt to follow the contours of the new Mk1 coaching stock, while at full width, as the Ivatt loco, giving maximum room and driver/fireman seats... Thanks for a very in-depth review , excellent...

The one omission that lets it down was the lack of any representation of the running gear between the frame. There's a lot of daylight under that boiler so it was a shame. Still, it's good looking well made model and I'm certainly happy with mine.

The 2MT wouldn't have any inside motion, it is outside cylinder and outside (Walschaerts) valve gear - so nothing to see between the frames.

Hi Jenny, I got mine today. Did you remove the capacitor ( for DC running ) I dont see it in your video. Mine was a pig to get started once the HM7000 chip was fitted. I eventually got it to go in reverse. After that it seems OK. However for some reason it occasionally stops going over a non electrofrog point ( sound on ) then starts off again without me doing anything. Not tried it yet with the hornby app. I think the sound is very quite, I may have to put in the 25mm speaker rather than the small sugar cube that came with the Hornby decoder.
