Long Distance Breakaway Cannon Shrimp Casting Info!
Many Viewers Have Asked Me For A In-Depth Presentation So Here It Is.
Shrimp, Ika (Squid), Crab, Fish or any bait can be power casted much farther then simply "easy cast" a standard bait rig. Just remember to combine all or some of these ideas to cast farther then you do now.
1) Select a reel that can allow long distance casting. The Shimano Ultegra is my current first choice. There is also the Abu Garcia CT Mag Series & the Blue Yonder 6500/7000, Avet MC Drag Series, Penn 525 Mag, Akios Tourno & the Daiwa Millionaire Mag. Most European anglers swear by the Century rods which are World re-known for long distance casting as well.
2) Making the baits streamlined. So far my bait bags made from Pro Med medical finger elastic netting has worked extremely well. Many anglers Worldwide have communicated with me that it has helped their game as well. I've tried tying the baits to the hook using either dental floss and/or Miracle Thread but i find the bait bags are the better choice. I now combine Filipino fish sauce (Patis) at the suggestion of my fishing buddy Wayne Choy with my normal oyster sauce in a plastic bag & soak the ready made bait bag before i cast it with positive results.
3) Lastly in 2 words-Breakaway Cannons. I now cast up to 30% further then before using fixed spool (spinners) reels filled with braid. Why braid? The thinner diameter means less air friction & less gravity pull over monofilament line. This creates longer casting distance with baits & lures. The downside is braid can fray easier then mono from external cuts & it can't stretch like mono. When it comes to Breakaway Cannons i can't endorse this product enough.

I was noticing your problem with crabs stealing your bait. When I was young, my family and I fished a small river for various species of fish with worms. The crawfish would would steal your bait before the fish could find it. So my father came up with using a Corky made by Wordens Fishing Tackle. They are a small float made for drift fishing for salmon and steelhead here in Oregon. It's basically a small float and and a hard plastic shell with a hole in the middle for the line to go through. Originally they were cork in the middle, probably foam now. He put a toothpick in the hole to stop the Corky from floating up the line. A small bobber fixed above your bait would work as well, maybe? Sounds like sound advice! Yes, the crabs here are numerous. I tried sealed small plastic bullet bobbers with some success. At first i was worried that bottom feeders like O'io (Bonefish) wouldn't hit a suspended bait, but they do. O'io even hit soft grubs on the surface. Recently i tried dual tandem rigs but the extra weight & air resistance of 2 baits was evident in my casting range. Thanks for this advice & for watching my videos Wade:)

Scuba Chris cause it smells like shrimp, you'll get the same reaction with just using the whole shrimp by it's self. Oh, btw you don't need to buy table shrimp for bait.

The sauce is a great idea! I've been using fish oil supplements; prick a hole in the gel cap and apply the oil to the bait. Also clipped the end off a Q-tip, oil it and put it on the hook with the bait.

I've been considering using the fish oil capsules for a long time. I just never remember to grab them when I go fishing. I've thought about putting one on a small hook and poking a hole in the capsule to let the scent flow out slowly.

Why don't you use floats to keep your baits off the ground? You could use floats called Bobbers, that hold the bait at whatever depths beneath since it floats ; or you could use the little floats placed on the leader next to the hooks when Bottom Fishing with a sinker rig. That's how you keep your baits away from the crabs especially.

I do have a system for that. In certain spots its crab infested while other spots i never have those problems (usually clean coarse sand or open hard reef with no rocks). I notice before u put the bait bag on your circle hook was dangling on your leader at a very non aggressive ( backwards) angle..... I’ve always used a smell on the shank witch always puts it the best position for hook up....what knot did u tie ?... was it the palomar?

Scuba Chris ... don’t get me wrong not a hater !... I watch local fish vids because I’m one also.... I’ve used that knot long time ago on tying hooks and switched to doing snell and my hook ratio dramatically got better... on the boat ahi and bottom fishing... and my favorite is fishing from shoreline.... I’ve learned that tying a knot to the top of the hook eye , the fish sometimes pull at the bait and can really put the hook in an awkward position ( backwards) especially if you’re sitting the bait at the bottom or even off the bottom ( dunk style) therefore when they come along to take it the may not be at an optimal angle when they get the line tensioned to plant that hook point... only time I’d say tying a knot at the eye works is when u whipppin or the hook is being used in motion .... also the ring eye circles hooks and the loop knotted eye tying is no match compared to snelling hook ups.... give it a try for a month.... I’m sure you’ll be convinced.... good luck to ya !!😎

The circle hook was designed to catch fish in the jaw. This prevents gut hooking fish if the bait is swallowed. Offset circle hooks were designed because people complained that they did not think they could hook as many fish with the original inline design. An offset circle hook totally defeats the original design of the hook. If you are using bait and do not mind gut hooking fish, why don’t you just use a regular or offset J hook?

I really don't like J-Hooks. Wherever that tip touches is where it digs in. Most of my Mustad Circle hooks are factory offsets so i don't need to offset it.

It works for dunking. I do mix it with oyster sauce as the bait bags absorb the scent. The oyster sauce has been my secret but my fishing buddy Wayne Choy suggestion adding the Patis to the mix as well. It works:)

Cheaper to own fewer rigs then to have more rigs designed for stricter specific usages.

I use those break aways I get em on ebay $10 I pumped iron for 3 mos and yeaaaa I can really send that bait out there but I gotta use rubber bands to hold it to the hook as the g force was too much for the bait

If you want to cut down on wind resistance look at Breakawayusa.com. He has clip down rigs that will streamline the bait with the lead. He also has a rig building kit that has everything needed to build 10 rigs.

Showing the Breakaway Canon meant for long distance shore casting. That day using shrimp which is soft & can easily break off so i'm showing how i cast it out using all my strength without the soft bait ripping off.

WTF is a size 20 hook. Don't you mean 2/0 Two Aught? Don't waste $$ on specialty bait bags,just spend $10 for 50yds of surgitube in 1/2",5/8",3/4" or 1" size. My Rippinlips 7'6" ML rod with a Diawa 4500 Emcast can cast twice that far with the same amount of force with only a 1oz bank sinker. The fish sauce is a new one though,may have to see how it works with Cats. As I fish rivers you don't always want offset hooks,not if you're fishing and there is debris.I just buy normal hooks and offset them with pliers when there is no debris to get caught up in. 30lb braid main,40,50,or 60lb leader depending if there is much debris and what kind.

Thanks For Your Reply, Yes, i meant 2/0. You're correct. Recently i went up to 4/0 so it would catch the larger sizes. I find the strong smelling sauce helps. I prefer the type of hooks i use because for unwanted or undersized species i can release it without much hook damage. Also i'm sponsored so the material's for the bait bags are free. A $7 box will last all summer because i double-up on the damaged ones. Chris:)
