My old High School buddy Craig is retired now, worked his rear off all his life saving up for the "Golden Years" (old age) and has so few hobbies that I've decided to try to get him out to target shooting his 35yr old Marlin 30-30 he told me he's only taken out once since he bought it. I don't have a lever action, never really saw the reason, but now I need to get one so he doesn't feel out-classed by me showing up with some bolt or "evil black gun" - lol I've been looking at ammo cost, trajectory, energy, recoil, etc and have had a hard time deciding which of four rounds I want my lever action chambered in, .223, .308, .243 or 6.5 Creedmoor. After watching your video I believe I now know which I'm buying - Hi Ho Silver...

Great. Now I need to start saving my pennies again. I just blew my wad yesterday, on a new upper for my AR pistol build. But I REALLY want this rifle. I've been jonesing for a 6.5 Creedmoor, and also jonesing for a lever-action rifle. Now I can check off both boxes with one rifle.

How do you know? What other than his say so do we have? This has GOT to be the poorest demo of a rifle's CLAIMED accuracy that I have EVER seen. This was a company produced video with no camera on target. Difficult to imagine that adverting budget was so limited as a GoPro couldn't be had. Why the gong rather than a picture target of a deer, again, WITH A CAMERA in real time!

.308 is 1 in 10 twist. Perfectly bedded hand guard. you can slide a dollar all the way. I got mine in .308 from cactus jacks (the cimmaron store) in Fredericksberg. The factory iron sights were 6 inches low at 25 yards.

I own a 357 big boy steel had it for many years now still one of my favorite guns in my safe..I'm debating in another henry in 6.5 or 308 but I know accuracy isn't practical in these calibers as a bolt action precision riffle but they are good hunting riffles for that 500 and under marker..I been hunting with a Daniel defense m4v7 6.8spc and have taken deer at 663 yard, but for fun on a friend's private range have rung a 14x14 gong at 800

Like Comparing a Ferrari to a Mack Truck .. Different Caliber different purpose.. You can find most anything on Google or I can do it for you .. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6.5mm_Creedmoor en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.45-70 The 45-70 really is not a long range cartridge very misleading.. More effective at close range on big Game Look at the 50-90 Sharps and 30-06 30-06 has a larger cartridge than .308 .308 has similar ballistics with less modern powder that is hotter.. yet 30-06 can have 220 grain bullets .308 180 grain max @The SemperFiGuy

I'm likely going to change my .308 Savage 99 C to 6.5 Creedmoor when I re-barrel it. The Henry shown here is a copy of the Browning BLR "rack & pinion" lever action rifle. Browning's patent has obviously expired. BTW you could really use a SIG SIERRA6 BDX 3 - 18 x 44 scope and BDX Bluetooth binoculars.

@theshamanist113
@theshamanist113 5 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I highly doubt that the lever action can maximize the potential accuracy of the 6-5 cartridge. My best guess is if you actually try to shoot an actual group with it you won't see anything under 1.5 Moa
@theshamanist113
@theshamanist113 5 жыл бұрын
Well , it's just that the lever-action isn't known for the best consistency. For one there is no way to free float it. So the barrel is always going to be in contact with the foregrip. Also the way that a bullet is locked into place is much more consistent with a bolt-action. The same is also true for a semi-automatic. Just a little less consistent in general. Plus I actually own a Henry Golden Boy 17 HMR and while I love it, it's definitely not the most accurate 17 HMR I own.
@brucefrank6119
@brucefrank6119 5 жыл бұрын
@Jbog07 Well. for one, we didn't even see the hits real time, or after the fact, with the lack of a downrange camera on the target. We see a guy shooting with a wooded background and the occasional ring of an impact on something. Heck, we don't even know the dimensions of the target. I could have created this whole "demo" in front of a green screen.
@blksn8k
@blksn8k 4 жыл бұрын
@@theshamanist113 Believe it or not, the barrel on the Long Ranger actually is free floating. Henry added a projection to the front of the receiver that the fore end is attached to. While I generally agree that a lever action will not be as accurate as most bolt actions, the Long Ranger in 6.5 CR is a good choice for those who want a lever action but may occasionally have real world (hunting) shot opportunities at distances a "traditional" lever action could never handle. If you are looking for a target rifle I think most would agree this ain't it.

Nothing wrong with 6.5 creed - it gets you similar performance to 300 win mag for good medium caliber performance in a short action bolt/lever rifles and the AR-10 platform. A lot of people just don't like to move away from legacy calibers (.300, .308, etc.) that they are familiar with and some have concern about availability of newer/specialty cartridges in times of ammo shortages. For example, even though the .300 AAC blackout offers more flexability than .223/5.56, yet I see plenty of people purchasing AR-15 platform rifles that don't even consider chambering for the .300 AAC.

This would be good, but if your asking about lever actions then really most of them are plenty great for it 30-30 is wonderful and alot of hunters have used this for years and its great in thick brush too as a bonus. Idk so much about the revolver caliber ones like say a 357 mag or 45 long colt lever action i assume theyd be plenty good but idk although itd be nice if they were because then you could carry one ammo type for a revolver and a lever gun. But all rifles considered not just lever gun? Bolt action or semi auto even are good in 308, 6.5 creedmoor, 30-30, there are so many good rounds. But what type of rifle do you want start there then choose caliber

@@ROE1300 USA is predominately imperial, not metric. Marketing has caused several great cartridges over the decades to go mostly into extinction, when not marketed properly, example Remington's .260 and .280. Culture is who buys the stuff. If it's not .30 cal, .270, or .243, it's probably not going to be adopted quickly in the USA.
